It was my fault that it broke and I have plenty of money to spend on fixing this or buying a new one.
Thanks so much for watching as always, and thanks to everyone who has given me advice on what to do!
Dang you really hate to see this happen to you
For those who didn’t get the update on Twitter, I sent it back to Canon directly and The cost break down was as follows:
Labor: $909
2 day shipping: $14
Tax: $76.15
Total $999.15
Once they received the item it took 10 with shipping to receive back from them
My heart breaks for you. Hopefully they can fix it. 🌹🍃
Thanks Dorothy!
wow that sucks so much sorry this happend
Not sure if they can fix it
im sure they can
Just curious of what it cost you in the long run. I have a 100-500 that has a crack in the plastic near the outer lens and I’m sick over it. It’s only cosmetic at this point but a $3000 lens is never cheap to replace or fix. 🤦🏾♂️ thanks for the vid
Ow man that sucks. Maybe canon can give you a decent price for a repair. If you are using the 24-105 it might be interesting to ad a small prime for the weeks that you need to wait so you can still get some bokeh for a decent price. I know that other brands offer spare parts for the entire lens, but you might need to get it calibrated after you fix it
Check Ebay as well. Depending on what country you're in, you might be able to get a new one much quicker, and at a lower price. I buy a lot from there.
Ebay is not reputable for a pro
They are actually selling for over retail price on eBay
I think the lens broke where it was designed to break. With any luck the internals of the lens are OK and it's just the mount that needs to be fixed. Would love to know what you ended up doing and/or how long the repair took.
You are correct about to being designed to break their to saved all the expensive glass!

Pricy yes but I am over all very satisfied with the repair
@@TbonesTech thanks for the info. Good to know it worked out in the end. Happy shooting!
I'm watching cause I broke my dad's dslr lens in the same way 😂 it the tripod with my elbow LOL. He still doesn't know I'm scared 😂
hope the sensor in camera did not get damaged. Id run a white black picture test and zoom in on the camera sensor to look for purple or white pixels to make sure the sensor did not get hit with tiny particles.
The sensor is still working great unfortunately the rear touch screen is no longer working :/
Damn bro. My heart aches for you. Are you selling it? I ll buy it from you
I’m exploring fixing it options right now
@@TbonesTech ok brother. Good luck. Can u post an update if you get it fixed. Would like to know if works the same. Keep up the good work
Go for new one
Go for RF 24-105 F4
If 24-70 not in stock.
I own a RF 24-105MM F4 right now it’s not nearly as good as the 24-70 F2.8 tho

My z6ii dropped i’m so lucky no damage working . Good as new 😜
@@maorvaknin769 lucky!
damnnnnnn thats crazy hopfully you can fix it
Call Canon USA. They repair damaged lenses . It won’t be cheap, but cheaper than a new lens.
Thanks man I think this is what I will end up doing
@@ShadeReview Canon also has a Professional Services membership. If equipment is damaged they will send you a loaner until it’s repaired. I think you get expedited shipment with it. Call 1-888-277-4540. They will tell you how to get your lens repaired.
Sorry that this happened to your lens. I currently have a lens being repaired by Precision Camera. They're a factory authorized repair shop, if you want to check them out. www.precisioncamera.com/
Looks like they only fix camera body’s and not lenses🤔 but thanks for sending me the link because it turned out that the EOS R body is also broken
@@TbonesTech they fix both camera bodies and lenses. The lens I sent them for repair just came back yesterday afternoon, and they did a good job.
@@DavidStella Oh really it would not let me choose a lens from there drop down menu.
I did send it into Canon to be fixed so ill be sure to let everyone know that the cost was and if they were able to fix it!
@@TbonesTech ok cool
Looks fixable. Try a camera shop
Thanks I’ll make some calls
i dropped my RF 28-70 F2 😢
It's always the wind
So very sorry.
Thanks! Sending it over to Canon to be fixed will update you all with the price and how long it takes!
Ouchh… it hurts me as well… 😰
Not sure why you're telling everyone via UA-cam? Insurance, that's what it's for!
Lol what’s insurance
@@TbonesTech If you're smart enough you'll take it, then just get a replacement!
@@steveslack4750 I think he's telling everyone because he has a channel sharing his photo experience(s) with his viewers. Most people know what insurance is for but on behalf of the very few that don't, thanks.
dude... today i droped my a7iii with 24-70gm and it looks exactly the same as what you showed us. Were they able to save the lens?
hope you have a good day.
did u fix it?
@@rumanthapa144 I did, yes
@@janmlakar7760how did you get it fixed?
@@benldr Took it to the shop where I bought the lens and they shipped it to the official sony repair shop or whatever it's called... 30 days later the lens came back good as new and repair cost 1000$
@@janmlakar7760 the lens I dropped only cost $950 used. The repair estimate is like $480 unfortunately.
Since you no longer need the lens can you send me all the pieces please lol 4real tho
use travel insurance
I have this instinct that that speaks to build quality - maybe Canon are going the way of so many, cutting corners/quality of materials, for that extra bit of margin. Understandable (even Miele seems to have gone this way) - but sad & unfortunate.
And - Manfrotto IME have definitely gone that way - but I'm never sure 'where' exactly. This example is enlightening.
