Fr., is the Rosary mental prayer or vocal prayer? I can’t meditate well on the mysteries - my brain doesn’t do well switching between the words and the meditation. Usually it’s a struggle, and 5 decades take 45 mins.
I usually get as far as “Okay. The Nativity is about Kenosis. Our Father, Who art in Heaven….” And then I’ll realize I’m 7 Hail Marys in and thinking about lunch; and in that time, I might have considered the donkey and the manger about once. On a good day, I may have considered Our Lady’s perpetual virginity about once instead.
@Logan-Esq Have you discussed this with youtr confessor yet? If you're doing chaplet 1,2 or full rosary each day then this needs aired correctly with a good confessor Brother so you get good guidance.
@@djq9332 Yes, but not recently. It wouldn’t hurt to mention it to him again. I forget what exactly he said last time but I think he told me to stop worrying about whether light will come during prayer and to try to make the environment correct - for example, avoid saying the rosary in the car, if possible. Thank you!
@@Logan-EsqI can relate to the thinking about lunch thing. I started changing the narrative (stream of thought) about lunch to a narrative about what was happening in the mystery. That seemed to help.
Father, can you address scrupulosity and how to discern between fear and fear of the Lord? I struggle with mental prayer when I try to “set aside time” and be “intentional” to do it. It becomes like a spiritual box to check and something to turn into a weapon of guilt or discouragement. Is it okay that I don’t take a half hour all at once and just try to let it happen throughout the day so I don’t become focused on “did I check all of the boxes so that I don’t have to feel bad or guilty about something”. For anyone reading this comment and scratching your head, praise God that you aren’t afflicted with scrupulosity, haha.
