Original song by Nobuo Uematsu
Arranged by Taylor Davis and Lara de Wit
No sheet music, sorry!
That wave of emotion that electrifies your body when you hear those first notes....people who never played the game will never understand.
Music and what it does to people is independent of the media it's displayed in. One does not have to have played the game to understand the emotion in this or any piece of music.
Azer True. However, I would argue that knowing the game intensifies your emotions.
Mike Wa hi Mike sorry to tell you your wrong ! I have never played this game but this is the most beautiful music of any game every produces ❤️
@Isiah Nunn so much this
I know, right? I was ten when I played the game. I didn't speak English, but the music told me everything.
My baby sister took her life after battling with anxiety and depression more than half her life. We used to play FF7 when she was little and loved the epic music and story, she always reminded me of sweet Aerith. We played this at her funeral in her honour 15 days ago. I love you Abigail and will always miss you. I pray you found the peace that you couldn't have here.
I'm Sorry About Ur Sister, May She Rest In Peace
I'm so sorry for your loss 😞
Sorry to hear that 😔 if that's true that is severely fucked up 😔
I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing okay, stay strong!
Really sorry for your loss
I think this will forever go down as one of the most bittersweet songs in gaming history.
Correction. In all of history.
Just finished rebirth, I forgot how much I loved all these characters ❤️fiance and I are walking down the isle to this song next Friday :)
I love how this theme sounds warm and sweet before you get to _that_ point in the game, and then after it sounds lamenting, nostalgic, warm, heartbreaking, hopeful. You hear notes after the fact that you hadn't before.
IKR! and it plays throughout the ensuing battle in a different tone. The saddest boss battle in gaming.
R Camacho yes. The fact that this is the boss music is so...it’s nostalgic and tributary and vengeful all at once.
I read somewhere that Uematsu didn't know the full extent of the story, and that if he had known he would've made Aerith's theme even sadder
Excellent explanation! Wholeheartedly so true. This game was a roller coaster. These two ladies capture it beautifully. Wow.
Aerith’s Theme is by far the best piece of music that Nobuo Uematsu has ever composed. It is the only piece from the Final Fantasy VII series and the FF series in general to bring tears to my eyes. Even if you didn’t know what this is about, it still brings you to tears.
There are many more songs in my opinion. FF6 has many great songs, the best FF6 story personally.
They made the story so well we connected to little blocky characters. I think the reason her theme hits so hard is because it sounds hopefull yet we know its a futile hope
This and “Waiting to be Found” always make me cry when listening to them.
Why I
unconsciously have my tears on my face when I listen to this music till this day? Aeris is one of the best female character in video games.
Because it is her eulogy.
@@johntracy72 Yes, it is.
Who grew up with Final Fantasy ... who points out, this special scene makes even the coldest heart cry. what a work of art. And then these unsuspecting people claim video games are not art. More art than such a slick picture.
Genre has to be specified IMHO... Look at fortnite. No way you could call that art.
@@josecoronell548 ff is art
It's so awesome that people are still paying homage to the amazing music Nobuo Uematsu wrote for FFVII, and that people still remember that game.
Taiylor Wallace Well... If there's anything I will remember from the PS1 era it's this game.
Taiylor Wallace June 2018... ffvii is the first ff that really brought ff to the north America and western world. FFi and ffii (which actually was ffiv) never connected the same way.
The PS1 made it possible, but ffvii made games within the game that attracted more than game nerds to it. You could lose entire months not advancing the story line at all and still have fun.
And Aerith theme is the most memorable pivot point of the entire story. Most players won't remember the specific of many if not most of the story plots, but Aerith's death is burned into our memories.
FFvii made possible the rest of the franchise. It is a success SquareEnix is still riding on today. Its symbol and flagship is ffvii. This is why they are doing a remake of ffvii.
Whats more awesome is that you're apparently related to Barret.
Either that, or you're one dedicated fan---and that's one heck of a tribute.
Final Fantasy VII really did define our lives as gamers.
Modern game designers take note! The graphics of FF7 compared to today are crap but NO ONE that has seen this scene has forgotten it. Story is everything. RIP Aeris.
deku scribe Spoiler but I don't mind.
NOOOOOO SPOILER
deku scribe Amen
"You see? I told you everything would be alright."
Story is everthing and ff7 was the most touching for everyone.
"What about us...... what are WE supposed to do? What about my pain?"
Kuippana Ah, imagine this voice acted in the remake....with the music? Gosh
This makes me feel like I swallowed a pineapple whole and it's stuck in my throat.
Ah yes thank you for the additional tears
"Ha ha ha pain?..Cloud...you are......a puppet!"
AtticusRh0des : Lol !! 😂
I miss when games were this loved... This is beautiful... this is the first game that ever made me cry as a kid.
Back when games were truly artist expressions filled with love. Can't fake that or reproduce it using any program.
Whenever I hear this song someone starts cutting onions...
those damn ninja onion cutters.
LOL
It always rains on my face inside the house... Every time. >.>
+Kitty Vixen yeah same, odd coincidence
same here :')
It is one of the most beautiful versions I've ever heard of "Aerith's theme" T_T
You almost made the 17 year-old boy inside this 38 year-old man, cry... Thank you very much from Greece. Nobuo Uematsu would be very proud.
17 years since the first time I saw what Sephirot did to Aeris....still makes me cry.
@Dankster tube in the german version, its Aeris ;)
Its Aeris all over the west. To me it doesnt matter how you call it they are both correct. Was always Aeris to me as well.
@@DeBenne007 It's Aerith, was literally a mistranslation from someone porting it to the west, the name was always, and will always be Aerith.
So its Sephiros?
YES, IT WAS SO AMAZING, YET SO SAD. THE PART WHERE CLOUD IS UPSET AFTER AERIS IS MURDERED BY SEPEROTH AND CLOUD SAYS "WHAT ABOUT MY PAIN? MY FINGERS ARE TINGLING, MY MOUTH IS DRY, MY EYES ARE BURNING, " AND DURING THIS HE IS SHAKING FROM WHAT I WOULD CALL, AN EMOTIONAL NERVOUS STATE WHICH HE IS IN.
All Final Fantasy music is beyond beautiful, but Aeris' theme is the greatest.... probably because FF7 is the greatest - brings back memories :)
Unfortunately, the composer Nobuo Uematsu no longer works for FF series.
Robby S Ya, he start fading off around FF10. I am glad that i attended the Final Fantasy Concert in Singapore, back in 2009 (i think), Nobuo Uematsu was there.
+Robby S: Uematsu still composes FF musics, he composed most FFXIV musics. He didn't do the score for XV because he was busy on FF concert world tour.
FF6 is more magical as an entire soundtrack.
FF7, will.always be awesome cause Zack, without him, there isn't any real SOLDIER....
Aerith* not Aeris.
Fun fact, I discovered you THROUGH Lara with your collaboration years ago
Oh awesome!
+jey Chow pervert
I have to fight back tears when I hear this song. If I don't consciously stop myself, I will start sobbing for the full duration.
This game hit me at just the right age to permanently scar me from the experience. In a child's world where everything seems so safe and permanent, where heroes never really get hurt and always live to fight another day, then to find out they CAN die and be gone forever.
And apparently I wasn't the only one. I remember all the rumors and legends and lies about ways to save her or prevent her death. So many people living in denial eagerly bought into these lies believing, hoping, that something could be done, just unwilling to accept the truth. She was gone. She would never laugh or cry or be angry again.
I haven't played ff7 in over a decade. I believe this may be the 1st emotional climax I've had since then when I shed a tear for Aeris, her love for us all, and the bond we all share within the lifestream. Thank you so very much for your performance that took me back to that place when the world made sense, regardless of how much I miss what she represented in what we could be as a unified people.
This song and Forever Rachel from FF6, both tracks made me cry the first time i heard them.
So amazing! I love these games and movie! Aerith is so beautiful and her song is amazing.
you love
Taylor Hunzeker yes she died so beautifully by my hands
Taylor Davis + Lara de Wit = Great Song
agree
Thank you :) We love working together!
I cried when Aerith died the first time...I'm playing FF7 now and I still cry at 35 😢
we probably could save her at the Remake!
@@kcng1305
That would be changing the game way too much
@@paultanski-hampton928 Have you played remake yet?
@@argent_angel9506
I have and it was amazing but it's not as good as the original
Same bro.
Probably the most beautiful rendition of this theme I’ve heard! The joy and love the both of you put into the performance was obvious and a genuine pleasure to watch..
My fiancé just surprised me saying that this is the song she wants to walk down the isle too. I almost cried, and I will at the wedding. Best part is she just looks at me and goes "I needed something Final Fantasy VII for you."
All the best on the day
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard.
I didn't think this song could make me cry any harder....until I heard this. It's like the masamune cut through my soul again.
I can't explain why, hut every single time throughout the years , when I've went back to hear this song , a tear falls from my eye . Every single time . So much emotion that I can't explain at all.
Oh my word ... It gets me everytime 😭 this melody is so beautiful that whenever I hear it just makes me cry , even if its been years since the actual game came out , still gets me ❤
@goblin knight that would be amazing :'3
This version deserves to be on the FFVII remake
This is like a melody ,this is actually beautiful music ,really nice and peaceful .
thank you for the lost moment of my child hood lived once again thru the music
you prolly never played the game .. but it was my life at a point and appreciate u
It doesn't matter how good the graphics are if the music and story are bad, ff7 proves this time and time again.
A tear shed for Aerith
The graphics back in 1997 was top notch too. These days folks focus too much on Graphics alone...
"Aerith Is Gone"
"Aerith will no longer talk, no longer laugh... cry... or get angry"
"What about us... what are we supposed to do?"
"What is this pain?"
"My finger are tingling, my mouth is dry, my eyes are burning"
😭😭😭 hit me in the feels...
YEP, I REMEMBER THOSE WORDS. I USED TO LIKE TAKING OF ALL OF THE CHARACTERS VOICES FOR MY FRIEND WHO WOULD LISTEN TO ME SAY THOSE WORDS. IT WAS REALLY FUN BACK THEN AND EMOTIONAL ALSO.
Where is my Phoenix Down!!! 😂😂😂
@@nlikeflynn8837 oooooooooooof
"We have to raise a gold chocobo"
.....can't even explain the waves of emotion within the first 30 seconds.....
Now we all get to experience this again in HD.....
Its magical to see Taylor and Lara in the same room!!
Thank you for this.
Because of how much I loved FFVII... nerdy me's favorite single player game ever... and the story of Aeris in it... her theme has always been to me a song of grieving a loss, while recognizing the impact both of a person and the impact of losing them. And of cource honoring memories.
I don't want to get to personal here, but today marks the 1st anniversary of a the most difficult loss of my life... and I played a few variations of Aeris's theme while processing and paying a social media tribute. and it is amazing though difficult to find one I hadn't heard before to help me face the difficulty of today and remember the great impact that this person had on me.
Thank you to both musicians, and all else who made this rendition of the song... though we will never meet you really touched my life today in a positive way so thank you!!!
How is this NOT breaking the internet? This is beyond beautiful...
I can't believe I'm going to have to watch THAT scene in full 4k HD. I'm not ready
There are simply no words to describe such beauty.
Me: I'm not crying, you're crying!
My friend: I didn't say anything.
Me: Shut up!
Me: Yes! I am Crying...
*Cloud in the corner chopping onions with a smirk*
Right in the feels man. Rip baby girl.......
THAT SCENE.....each time brings the tears back with those beginning chords
This hits a part of me that not much else in this world does. Reminds me of asking my mother if i could buy this game after reading about it. My mother that sadly passed away 2 years after that. I played this game for hundreds, if not thousands of hours. And every time i replay the game, im filled with good memories from when she was still with me and my brothers. Not sadness, just pure happiness. And i now had to go to the bathroom to cry when hearing this. Beautiful, just awesome. Thank you.
I first heard this song when I was 10 years old back in 1997. It gave me chills then. It still gives me chills. This is an absolutely wonderful version of the song!
Gave me chills 💗 this was a song from my childhood and this was done so beautifully
This is THE most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
All the feels 😭😭😭
This is still my favorite rendition of this song.
Now I can see why aerith's character is the most successful character in the game:)
Beryl Ann Donesa The developers didn’t she is the most successful but indeed the most iconic character of the game
Out of all the video game music I've heard, this is without a doubt the most gorgeous, pure, wonderful example of how moving music can be. About 11 months ago, when Covid was beginning to ravage this country and the nurses/doctors/emt workers had to do what was necessary to care for those that were dying without proper PPE, they were putting their lives on the line everyday. I listened to this song every day and wept because it was like a tribute to them, the people that perished and the families of those people. Bravo, ladies. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my life.
Those front line workers were the modern day Aerises.
22 years & I still cant hear this without crying, this game is still the bar!!!!
"I think..I want to be forgiven. Yes, more than anything." 💔
"By who?"
Jesus
Why you gotta slap me like that
That hit me hard. Over 20 years later and this still hurts.
Dilly dally shilly shally
You and Lara de Wit are an awesome pair. Although it has been a while since you two have played together, both of you played like you've never, ever, missed a single step. Flawless is the best word to describe this music.
3 second. I couldn't make it 3 seconds without tearing up. 😢
Wife got me a PS1 in 97 along with FF7. It’s been my favorite game of all time ever since then. Played it through at least four times. Losing Aeris always hurts.
My favorite song from the game, and the best cover mashups of all I've ever seen!
This brought me to tears. it's so beautiful. Thank you for the nostalgia.
Finally finished ff7 rebirth. I never played the og. But man, now i understand the amount of sad and sorrow within this song.❤
Awesome. One of the most memorable tracks in video game history.
Absolutely beautiful music. So many great memories playing FF7.
I made it _three notes_ before I lost my shit again. *Three notes*.
Where did it go? O.o
It vacated my body in a salty aqueous solution via my optical ducts.
+hksin11186 hahahahah.

40 year old grown man bursting into tears is an unpleasant sight
This song always hits my soft side
Those who hit the dislike button did not play the game and know nothing about Final Fantasy 7.
You don't even need to have played the game to recognize a wonderful piece of music. Context helps, but this song remains very skillfully composed, and well executed by these two musicians
Kaden Culp
If that is the case, then perhaps I can understand the sentiment why someone will hit the dislike button.
I'm not into music. I mean, I just enjoy listening and that's it. I can't even sing as I'm out of tune. Once I tried playing a guitar and I was able to play but the problem arises when someone is singing as I get lost with what I'm playing.
😀
Or just thought this rendition was sub par.... Ive heard solo piano covers sound WAY better than this
DansGlowing
I never thought of it in the perspective of a musician, so you might be correct.
However, if it's not badly played...
None of you have paid attention to what Kaden Culp is saying. The violinist is effectively miming. She plays the wrong notes and it doesn't match the music. How can that be difficult to understand?
Fabulous cover. Thanks for bringing up bittersweet feelings and memories. It sounds weird, but it's something I sincerely treasure.
to this day, this song brings tears too my eyes.
and i'm 44 years old.
I know I am late to discovering this channel, but this video deserves far more than just a "like". The blend and interchange between the piano and the violin is astounding. I cannot praise these two performers for this and "Skyrim" enough. This piece held me entranced from start to finish. Thank you both.
This video is underrated, this suppose to be millions views

dont remind me how old i am ....
It’s official , whoever doesn’t like this doesn’t have a soul. This is pure art! This does whatever few things in life do...get deep down in your soul
I just found those two legends this night!!!!!
I want this to play at my funeral.
THATS A NICE IDEA. SOME PPL LIKE TO HAVE HAPPY DANCE MUSIC AT THEIR FUNERAL THESE DAYS.
Just put it in your will and hopefully your family will abide by those wishes!!
How old are you?
I played this at my funeral last year. It was great.
I would be the guy who shows up with a masamune and has to be kept away from your open casket.
Taylor,
This is a very beautifully done piece by yourself and Lara. As someone with absolutely no discernible musical talent (apart from writing and rewriting song lyrics), I nevertheless am able to be a patron of the musical arts who enjoys performances such as this. May the both of you continue to find success in all your endeavors, and please continue to share your talents with the rest of the world.
Omg goosebumps and my eyes are frigging tearing over..... this really REALLY takes me way back to when i first played this game and cried my eyes out at this scene...... was still a kid back then but the feelings are still strong when hearing this beautifull music......
Absolutely.....words escape me I have nothing that could do justice as to how magnificent this is
Beautiful!
I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭
A poem without words, wonderful.
How am I just now seeing this? Fantastic ensemble!
you should do ff6 theme (Terra's theme)
YASSSS
Yes! FF6 has a soundtrack so full of epicness! ❤️😫
I second this.
+TeraCMusic thanks you guys for supporting my idea!
100% agree...... still listen to the sound track to this day
So happy to see you two together again! :)
I joined you before you played with Lara. :)
Found Lara through you! :)
FFVII was the first game I played on the PS1 and hearing this song still pulls on my heart strings. Thank you BOTH for creating this wonderful rendition. Best,
I just lost her again 20 years later. This is always an amazing tribute

click for the beauty of the two girls
but stayed for the talent👌
I loved this game ever since it came out, and this song makes me teary because it's about a beautiful young woman sacrificing her life to save the planet. So fitting to have this song played by beautiful talented women.
Before the violin had started I was already in tears! Such a wonderful rendition of the most heart warming and heart wrenching scene in arguably the greatest game ever created period.
This version of this song will be played at my wedding.
And everybody will be like "why?! why does aerith need to die :-'(" :D
f*ck me!! i literally crying!!!
I shared this game with my dad. And this reminds me so so much of him. You do this justice. Thank you for reviving his memory so beautifully.
Some wounds never heal.
I'm getting Your Lie in April feels somehow!
Geez I'm already struggling not to tear up just listening, without that show being mentioned as well!
:( That anime was the best, but I can't hear a piano and a violin the same way anymore.
I want to go to the Chopin Competition because of that... but the next one isn't until 2020.
nuuuuuu don't remind me of the MOST DEPRESSING ANIME EVER
stoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop...
I'm not really into more emotionally charged anime, but damn that show was good. Was the ending predictable? Yes, but who cares. It was beautifully crafted,
