I've got one of these and absolutely love it. I've got it in Orange Tonic but it's manual and Trophy chassis, which we were able to get here in NZ. Stoked to see this review!
I have a Trophy as well (also in Tonic orange, but EDC) and I've had it for a year now, but I still watch reviews on the car every other week. Just enjoying it every time haha
Probably the best looking hot hatch out there and tonic orange is toxic color. Just stands out !!!
There’s no but with a manual only automatic. You got the better car
@@aviciilebron88 how is it for daily drive please ?
@@HimuraGaming it’s definitely possible.
I don’t drive it daily it’s more of a fun car for me.
It’s a little bit rough on the dampers, especially if you live in a city where the roads aren’t good. But it’s definitely possible. I guess if you want a comfortable “normal” daily driver for city use and commuting only, take the non-trophy variant, where you have the adaptive damping. Other than that: Great! 👌🏻
needs 2b the Trophy spec thanks!!
Better than competitor
no manual daaaamm its the first thing i look now days in car without it even made by gold is a no
300 horse 128 too many. If see what I did there
I drove the 300 Trophy at Spa, it felt very good, certainly exceeded my expectations. That 1.8 liter engine is a gem, pulls strong.
I'm a proud owner of a 2021 Megane rs trophy I'm from Australia here we have both EDC and manual options and all come with cup chassis I have the EDC I must say the car is very exciting to drive and far as interior I think it's perfectly fine I have the performance pack which comes with the Alcantara Recaro seats which are dead gorgeous and very comfortable very happy owner if your in the market for a hot hatch do your self a favor take this french beast for a spin you'll definitely won't be disappointed.
I am looking forward to trade in my mk3 RS 265 to this new trophy. And to be honest I have owned the mk3 RS for a long time and it never disappoint, always reliable and never breaks
Me too eventually although the entry price is much higher than my mk3 cup which I bought as a showroom demonstrator - tonic orange or liquid yellow for me :)
@@slimtebzaworld1757 keep the 265, its the better car.
@@minimumtrade oh!!! Why you say that ?
@@slimtebzaworld1757 265 might be one dimensional but it's pure. Any compromise that was made was for the benefit of the driving experience.
Aren't you being a bit harsh with the interior? It's not that bad.
I sat in one of these yesterday - the interior is horrible, cheap and nasty. You can't ignore it and for many, that'll be enough to buy something else.
@@luciussander8217 I sit in one everyday and the interior is absolutely fine, not the best but certainly better than my BMW 140i
Way better than my old m140i. And far nicer than the civic type R and Hyundai I30n that we’re also on my shopping list. Nothing fancy, just well built and super comfortable with the recaros.
@@luciussander8217 Nonsense. It’s quite nice but not as posh as VW but also not as expensive. Renault out the money into performance not tarty interiors. I’ve had several of them and they drive great. I have a Golf now and yes it’s nicer inside but definitely not as good to drive. Horses for courses.
The cornering only matters when you're cornering, acceleration only matters when you're accelerating.
The exterior looks only matter when you're walking towards it.
The cost only counts when it's payment time.
All together, the above only matter a fraction of the time during your interactions with the car.
But if you're in the car, you're experiencing the interior 100% of the time.
Henry's criticism is valid, imo.
It's a shame not many people reviews the outgoing 308 GTI. 270bhp 1200kg and a proper manual 6 speed. Really underrated car
Yeah but when people ask you what you drive, you'd have to say 'Peugeot'.
Very underrated, had the pleasure of driving my mates a few times. 👍👍
@@omursaraslan6316 but if you'd bought one that obviously wouldn't bother you! Try one if you haven't already, but careful not to tell anyone how much you enjoyed it!
Ikr!! I hope Henry gets the chance to review one
@@omursaraslan6316 the best hatches are by the less fashionable manufacturers. Peugeot, Renault, Hyundai. Not everyone wants a BMW 1 series or a Golf
Such a shame they toned this down from the hardcore-ness of the previous generation. I bought the previous gen RS based on carfections review and have owned it ever since. It's offers far more thrills than the Golf GTi and it's contemporaries of the day. Subjectively looks the best too 😅
Catchpole also made me buy the previous gen Mk3 Cup 🏆facelift. Still have it. Hot hatch in purity form, and harcore drivers package. With this gen (whilst stunning to look at) the addition of 2 doors is hard to stomach, the addition of heavy 4WS is head scratching, the deletion of the manual transmission (UK) is a deal breaker.
Looks, well I love my Type R, the looks are the real deal 😅
It always was the thing with Renault Sports, either you buy one with the most extreme setup and use it to its full potential or you buy a Golf GTI. New Megane Trophy is still one of the fastest (if not the fastest) mass produced FWD hot hatch around track.
Still driving my Megane 2RS R26, 13yrs old and still working absolutely fine.
Mk3 was a great machine, I px'd mine for peanuts for a new mk3 Focus RS...tbh I still wish I had the Megane! With a decent RS Tuning map would give a Type R a tough time in a straight line whilst providing one of the best front drive chassis ever.
I bought one because of the interior, i wanted physical buttons for the climate control and for the start/stop system. The Golf also had touch buttons on the steering wheel, which are awful.
The seats are great, it sounds the best in this class and it handles really good. So as the reviewer said definitely worth considering.
Yes GTI looks and feels posher inside but those damn touch buttons is serious deal breaker. Megane easily win in terms of looks too ...
You bought a car for the buttons?!? Hand in your man card, if indeed you are one.
dealing with touch pads on a daily basis is frustrating. his money, his choice to spend it, I think that's pretty "manly" actually@@someyoungguyjohnson7239
We need new I30N for comparison :)
i30N is probably better, but that would be fun to watch.
i30N is a v heavy girl (60+kg), and does not get the cornering speed loving dual axis suspension of the Megane. Having said that WTF are Renault thinking persisting with these S001 tyres
Hyundai loool.
Dog chow
Ive been waiting for ages for someone to do a review on the new i30N
@@Rennyduo do u mean with the DCT, cuz I think they have, if thats what ur asking about
That new GTI interior is really not that great, I certainly wouldn't say it's leaps and bounds ahead of the Meg.
It's more posh inside but those damn touch buttons is serious deal breaker. Although Renault easily win in terms of exterior looks against GTI ...
@@obidean3964 the quality of the interior of the MK8 golf really isn’t much better than the Renault
Got the RS Trophy 300. What a machine!
Im still waiting for Mazda to bring the MPS back...wont hold my breath though...
I have a gen 2 3 unreal car mega fun
@@elliottthompson4834 yeah i had the gen 1 3 and made the mistake of selling it...
@iamspyvspy have you driven this car?
Leastwise not with the fragile gearbox of it's predecessor.

@@PocketAces500 I'm talking about the new facelift version from 2021
I'm surprised yall havent reached the mill mark yet, yall have a great channel. I'm not sure what your name is Mr Host, but I like the way you explain what your driving in and how they make you and possibly us feel. Thank you.
Can you imagine, supercar blondie somehow has 6 mill and carfection has .9. Simps.
I've never really understood why the quality of the interior should have any place in evaluating a hot hatch, but then again I am told that I'm "special". 😉
Well i drive an alfa giulia… so i understand. I just want a drivers car. Renault sport knows How to make a drivers car as well. They always have
Finally someone who gets it. I couldn't care less about the interior. Just a distraction to the overall driving experience.
The interior is alright, it's not flashy or anything. To me, as long it equipped with all stuffs I need plus modern tech like Android Auto, USB charging etc, it's enough really for this kind of cars. My 2 cents ...
So glad I'm not alone. Just give me a decent contact points and ergonomics. A good seat and wheel, and perfectly spaced pedals go a long way.
Back when they were cheap fun, I'd feel similarly but at £30 and £40k I'd start to care a bit.
Carfection, can you guys review the Peugeot 308 GTi 270? Would love to see Henry's thoughts on it specially when that breed of car is now dissapearing (lightweight, fast, manual gearbox)
Lightweight?
@@MGRracing it weighs about 1200kg.
@@Bongo4611 Thats actually not too bad , that's about the same as my 1980's audi quattro (although that has permanent AWD) . Question is, is 1200kg the real weight of the 308? Or is that the weight minus all fluids and no driver 😉 . They like to be economical with the true figures these days
@@MGRracing its the real weight. It didn't sell well because you can get a Golf GTI for a similar price. Because the new one is coming this year Peugeot put heavy discounts on them. I bought a brand new one for £21k. Over 10k discount. It's an unbelievable car. Look up the specs or have a look at a review on UA-cam. Not many people have any complaints. (mainly the I cockpit)
@@Bongo4611 True drivers car
Took one of these out a few weeks ago, cracking car, seemed very tame until above half throttle then wow,
Handled great, although the interior was so gloomy, if I were to get one would have to get the panoramic roof to get some light in,
That actually adds weight unfortunately
Looks like this one has been imbued with the same spirit as my old Renault Sport 225 Cup from 2006.
Good to see Renault Sport getting some coverage I think one of these in Silver, metallic grey looks sharp and a classy interesting alternative to a golf which let's face it are 2 a penny on the road
Also The Civic Type R only has four seats. Deal breaker for me.
same here. 5 seater must
Like Renaults there very reliable. My Renault Megan has lasted me 10 years. And had no issues.
Not really reliabe these days honestly
@@saviemfrance9538 I dunno about that tbh I think that’s pure cap
@Kev Pog the Meg 4 has been out for 5 years already and this is just a facelift, i've sawn and read a lot of disapointing owner experiences, the alignement that goes really Bad and destroys the front tires After 15k miles, the EDC breaking at 40k and number of other problems, but récent cars cant really be built to last nowadays a Renault is no exception (comparing to équivalent like Peugeot and stuff).
And yeah i dont really blâme the engine 300hp on 1.8l cant be durable as a lot hp engine, but thats just what it is
@Kev Pog and yeah italians cars arent that reliable also so for todays standard a Mégane 4 like a dci classic model will do just fine , but dont expect the "reliabilty" term on a rs
A fwd BMW is heresy and should not be even considered! 🤬
The RS Megane from the MK1 to the new MK3 are just immense hot hatches and great handling machines...sad to see them go!
Bummer, You lost me at automatic. Sometimes I feel that no one seems to enjoy driving any more. to be a part of the machine rather than sitting on it. I know flappy paddles are used in FI but seriously in day to day traffic? Oh well..
I used to think that but modern dct have their place. Having used one at work I came around and now enjoy hot hatches with semi autos
Commuting through towns and cities put me off manuals. Enjoying my DSG atm.
Manual all the way....
A semi-auto is like a semi hard-on.
Inadequate in giving total pleasure to the recipient!
Henry Potter, grown up and all about magic, car magic, that is. 😀
Harry
The sport should still get the LSD.
It needs it will 300hp.
Best looking hatchback !
I'd suggest seeing the interior and driving one of these for yourself. Not really in agreement with any of Henry's criticisms to be honest, other than the shift paddles.
The interior is absolutely fine.
I agree, far better than the civic and the less said about the appalling mk8 Golf interior, the better!
Completely agree
I agree with you, I don't see anything wrong
Can't buy a GTI Clubsport in Australia but want the 300HP. Not convinced this is the answer. What to do???
Drove the 300 Trophy around Silverstone in the Uk when they first came out.. Brilliant piece of kit and a blast round tracks. Personally don't own one, I have the 1.6 GT Line 200.. it's down 100Bhp on power, but still has the 4wheel control of its faster twin.
Please do include some comparison videos too with few hatchbacks . It will help a lot of viewers to decide their dream 🚘 for sure.
Yeah plastic is scratchy and in the Golf and BMW 1 you dont find scratchy plastic because its high premium like maybach 😂 it is a compact sport car not a bentley continental gt 😂🤷 it is worth the money „yes“ that is the answer of the question you dont tell 😏
And the civic is the most ugly awful looking car ive ever seen in my life i mean 3 exhaust four rear spoiler what tha hell oh man 😂
I had the Clio 172 Cup and then 2006 special edition Mégane turbo in turquoise blue with black wheels. Loved them both. But I'm looking for something more fun and whacky and to be honest I'm considering the Toyota Yaris GR. Half the weight and also more power than the Mégane 300.
I like this guys reviews..but then Im biased once I saw him in his little Clio 182 I thought the guys got taste.
Another great video. Henry could make reviewing a cardboard box enjoyable.
Because of the interior quality and lack of akrapovic option below trophy r I ended up buying a tcr.
The scratchy comment from Journalists are so operated.. I mean I'd rather scratch my ears whilst driving then the plastic on the dash.. gosh
Why talk about the interior its the deining experiance.
Νope. Type R is not the class leader !!!
Great can just needs a sunroof option, so its in the same league as it's competitors
Bulshit from Renault. The only good sport car from them ,is the Clio Rs.
one thing i hate is... an unresponsive infotainment system
The GR Yaris is "fetid" ?? WTF ?
This car is the best hot hatch in 15 years.
Got the Rs sport 300 in spain!
great vid guys, thank you, henry you're still the king, and the vid editor has the best skills of any car vlog
Is this the same engine in alpine a110?
It is
Except its 420nm in the megane - which is why henry says it feels very turbo., the power curve is a lot more linear in the A110 capping it to 320nm more like a naturally aspirated build up.
This. In silver. Love of my life...
That back road to Goodwood is a good test for any car and usually quiet enough to be able to get quite a move on. Not sure that the Megane would be on my shortlist though….
What road? been to Goodwood many times racing..horses that is, of both types. And Goodwood festival.
Is that the road going North off the A27 past the track?
I am 19 years old with t my first car RENO CLIO 2 red colour to also 😁
YES I will have to work my whole life and a little bit after death with a job giving me such a low payment for my hard work
YES I KNOW...but while I am still alive and I want to experience it to my fullest this car would make me feel like I am living it my best ...I am just imaganing on how many amazing trips I would go with my friends ...this is just a dream for now
#SaveTheManuals
Best looking car in the class...enterior is slightly weaker point, but overall I would pick this car over Honda Civic Type R,Golf GTI, or any other hothatch...than again I have Clio 4 RS200 so I am not objective here 😁
Ah poor Honda, just when Harry Metcalfe absolutely butchered the design, with all the fake vents yesterday 🤣
I own a Rs 300 trophy in liquid yellow and I absolutely love it… sorry but I’m a smug ‘b’! It’s like having a cute girlfriend you’d be smug about her too! ❤️🔥 my 🏆 😎
What aload of rubbish . I have driven a lot of cars in my time . You certainly don’t give this a fair review . But everyone to there own
Disagree on the Civic being the go to in class. 128ti, Hyundai, and a few others are definitely have advantages over the Type R.
Damn. I get the notification while working.. First I will watch it without sound and when I get home with sound. Luckily for me, it's beautifull car. Henry not so much 🤣
Open notification link, hear Henry Catchpole's voice, immediately hit like and do the comment thing 😉
I’ve just found this video after searching certain things for my Megane… bit strange seeing the car in this video being the exact one I bought a month ago😂
Maybe I will test one and decide if it's nice option to buy or not. But at the moment I can't buy one car. Between today and next eight months I will have the option to move my body to one petrol machine
Only problem with renault the interiors are full of cheap looking plastic not impressed
The reason why its dull when your driving normal is because it is turbo charged
Peugeot 308 GTi270 🤫
Finally a proper video about the facelift
Nice review, car seems like a better daily than previous generations but a bit less special?
Renault for me lads
Last Renault Sport, thanks all the vegan and bobo no more manual sport cars.
Looks good, just wish they'd get rid of those poorly responding touch elements.
Hey americans, can we have this beautiful french car in US?
Perfection for a racing life of nowadays with of course thinking security as usual
Une tenue de route exceptionnelle !
fogs look like the new gtis
Type r looks great. Just because it dares to be different you aren’t used to it.
Shame you cannot specify black alloys any longer on a new one
it always gets beat in drag race with other hot hatches last to be prscise
Since no manual anymore I don’t need to watch after 3:25!
The Golf 8 Gti has a premium interior🤨
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA😆😆

Glad to hear RS havent lose their hot hatch spirit. How good will it have been with a manual box though, or are they obsolete compared to autos? Im not convinced...
I30n facelift review please :)
Great colour
Awesome
By the time you spec one of these up its over £40k....sorry but that is insanity to want to spend that much on a Renault
Worth it tho
I feel like the Golf 8 interior is as scratchy and plasticky...VW do a good job of creating a perception of high quality with good design and proportions. I have been in the pre facelift of the Megane R.S. and preffered it over the MK7.5 GTI.
Can you do a video for best road car/occasional track car? I’d love the type R but the finance deals are shocking versus the competition
Get a bank loan practically giving money away at the moment.
I bought mine 5 months ago and loving it. I went for the trophy version to get the LSD, then added the Recaro seats and Volcanic Orange paint as options. The RRP was £39k and I paid £33k... So a bit of a bargain I reckon. Every review mentions the ride as harsh, but I don't agree. We use it as a family car and it coped brilliantly with a trip down to Cornwall. It could do with 7 gears for crusing and the MPG is nowhere near the Civic or Golf alternatives, but it looks amazing and drives incredibly. Plus, I've never had a car that gets so many great reactions from random people! Oh and I disagree with Henry, the interior is far classier than the Civic or Hyundai. And the Golf, well I can see lawsuits on the horizon after accidents...
People don't know what "harsh" ride is. I have a Clio 4 RS Trophy, you can't adjust the suspension like on the Megane...and yeah that's harsh :) But this being said it the road is good....oh my good, it's like you are stuck to the road!
The base price now is 38000 so its not possible to have volcanic orange and Recaro seats without going over the 40k tax limit which is a pity.
@@davidbazley9305 It is! that £38k includes first year road fund license which is around £1500 and is removed for VED purposes :)
the older one to me was a more exciting and focused car

If you want flash interior get a German car , it is about how it drives, I do not want a car that feels like my living room . That is one of reasons why I do not like German cars much they not driver focused or terms of driving.
rly dude? a BMW M140i is not driver focused? lmao

A bit of a different suggestion but I'd like to see a video on the Peugeot 308 GTI by Peugeot Sport. You could then link it to the new 308 that's coming out in due course if you want to build the video up a little more.
I would really like getting your thoughts on the old 308 and where there taking the new 308 which seems to be less and less sporty sadly.
