Awesome video, Daiki! Appreciate the UX discussion - that's something that's often overlooked in professional tools. If anyone has any questions or whatnot, we're happy to answer them!
@VideoVillageLLC I just downloaded the lite version to test out your product and everytime I attempt to use it the user guide pops up and crashes Davinci...
@@vchun9567 Hi! Most of the cons that were mentioned in the video have already been solved in the latest update - Dehancer 7.0. You are welcome to join our free 2-week trial ;)
Hi there, I was wondering if I were to purchase Bloom separately and later decide to upgrade to Dehancer Lite or Pro whether the $99 already spent would be deducted from the $199 or $449 cost of either Lite or Pro in the upgrade? Thanks.
Except it's really not - I've been using Nitrate (and before that FilmConvert) for years, and recently downloaded a FilmBox trial. Filmbox works well in a color managed workflow, and is there for much more flexible and "clean", where as Nitrate is basically a LUT with a couple of sliders, and is a pain to use with CST's. But I won't pretend to understand all of the technical reasons, FilmBox just looks waaay better... So I paid the very steep price :/
I have film convert nitrate. Are you sure? They only have 16 film stocks compared to the 63 deja ver has and also doesn’t have bloom, film print etc..unless I missed something
FilmConvert Pro used to be awesome for film emulation, but ever since they switched to Nitrate I just find all of the stocks look completely fake. It looks like erratic patterns instead of true grain. Bummer.
Can you please share the node setup that you use at 1:54? What do you mean by basic correction, do you convert the footage to any profile before adding the dehancer at the end?
Did you use any physical filter in the shots? Like at 2:15 I see some blooming already.. I'm trying to understand if I can skip filter selection (I would like to buy at least 3 different pro mists...) and go full "in the box" thanks!
Hi bro! Thanks for the video. I have a question. When I use filmbox lite, the video format is not set to 9:16, only 1920:1080 and 1080:1080. Do you know the solution?
This video seems to have an extremely heavy amount of glow, both in the example footage as well as your talking head segment on the couch. I understand this may be a stylistic preference on your part, but I'd love to see this comparison without the glow effect, as it's somewhat distracting. Otherwise, keep up the great work !
Filmbox should sell an educational/non profit version for those who aren’t making money and just making art. $1000 is just too much to spend on something that might not even work in a year if daVinci decides to change something or a different computer technology comes out.
@@daikishinomiya yes, with limited controls and limited to 1080. Unless you’re only going for a 60s retro look, the whole point of it are the subtle changes it makes at a granular level. For detailed 4k+ starting material, all you’re doing is being destructive if you’re going to 1080 with it.
I keep hearing that Film Box is the better out of the two, I know it comes down to what you need it for BUT what actually are the big differences between Dehancer and FilmBox that make Filmbox the one people go for??????
Probably the best part about filmbox is the physically accurate halation and the grain. The film profiles are also really good and way more accurate compared to dehancer or anything else out there. It's really well built and wont cause any artefacts or breakage on the image - I've tested and use it on almost all of my projects.
I feel so dumb for stopping myself from learning filmmaking as hobbie for YEARS just because my videos/photos weren't as pretty as in the movies/other professionals. And then I discouvered that people do this thing of color grading to get that kinda of results. I'M SO DUMB 😵💫😵💫😵💫 I just nedded to study about it
Hi Daiki, love the content and learned a lot❤ BTW, what’s the background music you use in this video? I looked it up in music bed but cannot find the exact one. If you can, please let me know the name. Thank you for your time.
Awesome video! Do you know if they have the DaVinci wide gamut intermediate as a colour space? I usually do colour management at the project level so that would be nice to have
What is with this assertion among younger groups - and some older individuals - to associate the look of analog film with “nostalgia”? I know this is only a short video and you are summarising these tools quickly, so I’m not blaming you, but it is something I hear consistently. For many people, including myself, it is associated with “quality”, “storytelling”, and “artistic” imagery, or a feeling of “impressionism”. Isolating film elements with modern digital tools, such as grain, halation, gate weave, etc. doesn’t mean they are being used exclusively to evoke imagery from a bygone era; unless, of course, that is the desired goal.
How is the video playback performance for you? I'm on the fence on getting Dehancer for my M2 MacBook Pro due to things I've heard about terrible playback... @@daikishinomiya
@@daikishinomiya From what I've seen, filmbox seems to have the best grain pattern out of all of the film plugins. The way it feels imbedded into the footage looks very organic & accurate.
@@botbot3698 Definitely. Filmbox is in a completely different league, ahead of any other commercially emulation currently available. Dehancer is saggy and muddy by comparison.
Couldn’t agree more. When I look at Filmboz and Dehancer footage side-by-side, I really can’t see the difference. But when I don’t know which is which, I always pick the one that turns out to be Filmbox. I don’t know what it is, but it just looks exactly how I imagine film *should* look.
Nobody in Hollywood post uses Filmbox. It doesn't even look nowhere near authentic. It looks like a cheap imitation of film. Even an untrained eye can tell the difference without breaking a sweat. If you want to get close to real film look, you either use Continuum or Dehancer Pro, unless you want to look like the dude who cuts his content on Windows Movie Maker and does his VFX on Windows Paint and calls himself a professional editor.
Hahaha you would be really surprised on how many high end professional colorists actually use filmbox, especially for its grain and halation. Its been an industry standard for many years and way more accurate than Dehancer's guesswork on all its stocks "emulation". Plus Dehancer just uses vendor luts as its conversion method and all post processing happens in Rec709. I actually have both and I NEVER use dehancer. Will take filmbox anyday over it. Is the compatibility with other editing softwares something we can look forward to in the future? Or is it technically too complicated to work around?
