  • Thanks for hangin with me while I do some plant maintenance! It's not the most fun part of owning plants, but sometimes the slow process of caring for plants can really be relaxing. Plus, someone's gotta do it! LOL

    Ebbs and flows, waxing or waning; these are normal, healthy cycles in our passions. Plants are a life long journey if it chooses you and your journey is yours to dictate. The amount may change, the types may change... but the spirit of nurturing and creativity in a plant lover is always a part of your life.
    Winter watering can feel overwhelming because keeping ones home heated and providing great supplemental lights really boosts late season growth. I love having half my plants outside during the rest of the year because I feel like the rain does so much of the work for me. I actually take most of my plants to the shower to water. Sometimes I just make a goal like 'water at least 10 plants today'. Filling the waiting time during draining with some sort of small creative project that can be done in steps can also help make it not feel so tedious in my experience. As to the top plant rail, maybe some lights strung for ambiance or a home crafted plant themed garland would be fun. I love paper, so I might origami something fun, but I've heard you mention sewing. We are multifaceted people and we can focus our energies as we can manage and as we are inspired. There are many ways to be a plant person, so just be true to you.

    The first plant you showed that isn't doing much. I'm pretty sure I saw white mealy bugs on underneath leaves.

    Hola Becca. Thanks for another lovely video! This may be random but I see you like cleaning with the more natural-like products. I recommend getting a bottle of Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds to refill your bottles. Use 1 tbsp/1L water in your bottle and you will get a power house of a cleaning solution for very little investment. I normally buy a gallon jug of Sal Suds at a time and it lasts at least a year. I reuse a glass vinegar bottle and put a nozzle on it (you can reuse the one from your bottle), mix my solution and I'm good to go. Depending on the room, I will use different essential oils ie. in the bathroom spray, I add tea tree and citrus. In my kitchen spray I use peppermint...this solution one also acts as my bug spray. There'e a dilution cheat sheet online you can take a look at for all the ways you can use Sal Suds. Hope you find this useful!

    What if you had two watering stations going at a time? Some on the plant a potty and some in the sink, your still have the walking back and forth but it would cut your time down!

    I am still into my plants and that is the only thing keeping me going right now because they need me. As for anything else like keeping up the house, cooking, etc.....I'm just not feeling it. It's hard to get into the Christmas spirit right now for me as well.....bah humbug, ha!

    I was starting to feel a little bit overwhelmed and bored with plants. What I’ve done is to stop buying new plants and focus on the ones I have in my collection. At least until spring😉

    • @jackiewhitney5031

      Yes, you have the right idea. I feel some of these plant people all get in the mood to buy so so many plants and then it becomes too much work and drudgery starts sitting in. I was once there and now I just have a few maintainable group of low maintenance plants that I love but I guess it's a learning process for sure.

    Hey Becca! I've been watching your videos for a long time and got a plant a potty because you made them look awesome lol.. something I've found helpful for moving things along a little faster is letting the plants finish dripping on a boot tray and then putting them back. Theyre really easy to store too they just slide where ever u can easily put it.

    Always love your videos and totally understand having a lull...I'm sure making videos constantly can add to being burned out. We'll all be here to watch what you feel like producing and patiently waiting when you aren't feeling it or don't have a lot of content. I have a question that I thought you might have an answer to and perhaps it could be a video topic (maybe?)...maybe a propagation/care video about cacti and aloe...or do you have one that I've overlooked!? Anyway, I know you have a love and appreciation and likely more experience than most other planty youtubers for cacti and aloe. I know you can't propagate from an aloe leaf and can prop from pups...but when they lose enough of their lower leaves and are lanky/leggy, can you pot them up higher and will they root from where the lower leaves were? Or is there another solution? I hope that all makes sense and again, love your channel and videos!

  • @kkmeilicke
    @kkmeilicke Рік тому +4

    Yes! Thank you for normalizing the ebb and flow of passion for our plants. I get all excited and propagate lots of plants, then sometimes hit a low point when I need to pot everything up--oops. For watering, I use a large, rectangular plastic bin with cooling racks in the bottom for drainage. I can fit about twice as many plants as your bucket method.

    I’d be tempted to enclose that brass “light house” with glass… a mini greenhouse 😊. I started a bunch of linearus at the same time you did and lost all of them 😩. I can’t seem to propagate that plant now matter the method I try. Ugh. Hope the rest of yours make it. Maybe I shouldnt have put mine on heat mats? I’m struggling to do ANYTHING at the moment. I am way overdue watering….maybe I’ll attempt it today. Not feeling it.

    I have problems with my hands and it’s forced me to slow down (not a bad thing) and I can’t help but feel the plant a potty would be great for people with dexterity issues that can’t carry a large volume of anything for very long, short trip, grap a plant or two, easy peasy!

    I usually have to water my plants more in winter because of our very dry heat. I’m sure it all depends on the area you live in but for me my plants get dry as a bone, we have almost 0 humidity in the house when the wood stove runs. I just checked it’s at 27% so I guess I exaggerated. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄💚🙃

    Yeah, my linearis cuttings root up much better in an inclosed bag or prop box. Usually pretty quickly like that, so good call!.. Also, just wanted to say that have ADORED your anthurium baloanum for the last few years, so as soon as I got a bit comfortable with that genus I finally pulled the trigger! I got my plant from someone who had already grown it to a pretty mature level and then made a top cut to sell. I've had it for about 4 months now and it acclimated to my home like A DREAM and it honestly has become (( the favorite )) in my collection and really does bring my so much joy!☺

    Maybe you could use the watering table that you built for your adansonii tree to help speed up watering the wall? Or get a second plant-a-potty? Or take half the plants to the kitchen? 2 hrs is a long time, especially with all the down time while you wait for things to drain. Also, it's ok to leave that top row semi-empty. It gives you space to know you could expand a lil bit if you ever see something you want. I wonder if you could do some sort of hard clear plastic dome on the terracotta that would help propagations and let you use the wall still? Anyway, love your channel! Thanks for sharing!
