I love it when characters can discuss what they want for dinner today while taking a whole episode to land their attack on the opponent- and when their attack doesn’t land, *that’s* when you know the episode is filler.
I loved the part where he thinks "Oh no, I won't be able to dodge this one." I see stuff like that all the time in anime, and my reaction is always "Uh, yeah if you have enough time to think about it, then you obviously have enough time to move."
@@TheStapleGunKid that’s pretty easily disprovable, particularly if you extend “reasonable” attacks to include anime shit. Example: The attack is hitting someone with a moon. You’re in space, can survive there, and fly, but not fast enough to dodge the moon moving 1% the speed of light from 1 light second away. You fly hundreds of miles in the 100 seconds it takes to reach you, but still get hit. And yes, all the real life examples of “see and comprehend a thing and try to dodge but realize you can’t” will be really weird fringe cases where something very fast moves a very long way while being obvious, like cheetahs, or derailed trains in a parked car, or a collapsing wall. Also explosives. Weird shit. Definitely not two dudes squared up throwing normal-human-hands. For sure you should dodge that if you have time to think anything. Just as a general concept, for sure there are situations you can think and still not dodge.
@@demonzabrak Well I suppose if you want to include the rarest, most ridiculous situations ever, then yeah there could be such a case. But that wasn't what I was talking about. Again, this isn't a rare thing in anime. It's quite common, which is why Caleb included it, I'm sure.
Caleb, the manga goes into great depth about how everyone above the power level of 15,000 communicate beyond light speed, so the scene makes perfect sense.
The monologues between attacks is literally just the animation studio saying we're not spending any more time or money on another punch or kick. These characters are going to use their words for the next 6 episodes.
Even worse when they don’t even make a new animation for the attack but just reuse the clip of him attacking over and over again. Usually with a blue or black void behind them so they don’t have to worry about the background not lining up.
0:43 This is what I think every time whenever anybody in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure does a light speed barrage while speaking a bunch of words couple of times and the victim still somehow survive, like bro, HOW MANY times were you hit? And also how fast DIO speaks in general, like he had an entire monolouge during the 20-meter radius emerald splash while the emeralds were just like 2 inches away from him when he just started speaking.
I remember another such moment in Jojo. There was this scene I recall where they were doing this move where they were jumping off their Stands to gain a vertical boost. But they had them monologuing for so long in-between the attack that it looked more like they were flying and not Stand-Jumping.
That’s another thing: DIO says he can stop time for 5 seconds, and then 9 seconds by the end of the fight. However, he spends at least 10 seconds at the start of EVERY time stop talking about how Jotaro can’t defeat him.
The one that always got me was FMA:Brotherhood. Bradley is taking his killing swing at the old ninja and we know both of them are super fast. But during the swing he says 2 whole sentences, one of which remarked on how quick he was. 😑
Especially in sports anime, where "the final second" of the match can drag out to a few episodes while the protagonists remembers about his entire life experience in order to score the final point.
I love my sports anime and that's too true. Last 30 seconds of the clock with no time to actually think and both internal monologues for 5 minutes. Lol
God, thanks so much for capturing this trope perfectly. It's waaaaay too common in anime. Characters will kill 3 enemies with a single sword swing only for them to be like, "oh shit, a SNEAK ATTACK?! Man, there is no way to dodge this, looks like I am in for a world of hurt." and get bodied after thinking entire sentences to themselves.
I love how their conversation just becomes a petty back and forth and they both seem to forget they are fighting. It's like a Twitter argument in real time
Love this! It's far too common in anime. Also the "I'm about to take this seriously" line after fighting hard and getting beaten down multiple times...and then they start winning, only for the other guy to "take it seriously," and then it just keeps bouncing back and forth between them "taking it seriously." It's like "I'm about to take this seriously" means "I'm going to go up from 1/100th of my total power to 2/100th of my total power," at least until the final 100/100th of their total power, in which case the main character comes out on top or learns a valuable lesson about something.
Props to the accurate scene at the end. There's always just some random scene, sometimes even between hero vs villain where they just correct the opponent's grammar mid-conversation, and this pulled off an exageration of it perfectly
Caleb really made a skit to cover the fact that he wants to correct people's misusage of common idioms, and I am fucking here for it. Like when people say "irregardless"
@@user-sh9ww1yk1y It's not about it being real, it's the fact that it doesn't make any sense. A person deflects on admitting another person's right by saying "same difference." but the phrase doesn't make any sense because something can't have the SAME trait and be DIFFERENT because of that trait.
People be so confused when I correct them too.. like i have to explain to them that they are trying to tell me they dont give a fuck, but thats not what the words that are coming out of their mouths are implying
In anime the unspoken rule is that talking is a free action. The MC can recite the whole Bible between supersonic punches and he'll still be perfectly audible to everyone including the audience.
If the person you're attacking while talking can keep up with the conversation, then its a big sign they can also keep up with the speed of your attack. I remember normally seeing these kinds of moves in last desperation attacks, like you already weakened them and the main character is talking a full sentence on why they about to win before landing the final hit.
@shi pou Reaction time vs Travel time. I think a character reacting at the speed of light can still wait for the last moment to dodge but the person attacking at the speed of light and talking would be impossible without fast lip reading skills. So that still means that dude has lightspeed ability to even read you talking at lightspeed LOL
@@IN-tm8mw The brain does not have the ability to even process information nearly that fast, lool, read lips that are going at light speed wtf, I don't care if someone could actually move in short bursts at light speed how can someone possibly talk that fast and why would they bother, no one including themselves is going to hear it, sound doesn't travel that fast, and no one would have time to lip read since that takes extra concentration and time, plus, its actually impossible for solid matter to move at light speed anyway, only massless particles that have no intertia acting on them can do that because that is what defines having no mass, being able to move unperturbed in air or a vacume, so any anime characters or comic book characters being claimed to be light speed and even more ridiculous over lol are just plain dumb.
@@IN-tm8mw the lips would still look like they are closed. he wouldn't even see him moving if he's at light speed. any kind of information can only travel at the speed of light and not above I believe. but who cares it's an educational anime about the choice of words you use daily!

You're missing the part where the attack leaves a long lingering dust cloud, multiple camera angles and cuts to other characters reactions as they talk about it, or even across the world if they're tuning into the fight on TV, everybody turning away as though the fight is over just feeling sorrow, remorse, pity, disappointment or even triumph... But then you hear ominous laughter, and everyone turns back all incredulous, like no way, no way! and the dust starts to clear, slowly, methodically, purposefully, building the suspense to a fever pitch when suddenly, unexpectedly, before you even have a moment to comprehend what's going to happen...! "IN THE NEXT EPISODE OF DRAGON. BALL. ZZZZZZZ~~~~" 🐉 🏀

This used to kill me as a kid when we didn't have streaming. You'd tune into the episode where the fight starts... just to spend it learning the back story. You have to wait until next week to hopefully see a fight... hopefully
A thing can't be "so perfect". The word so means "to such a great extent". However, perfect is already at it's greatest extent. You can't be better than perfect. Meaning "so perfect" is a useless term, and perfect is the more correct one to use.
@@huh968 yes, in the same way, in this very planet Earth, there is this little thing called the mistake. A mistake is an act or judgement that is misguided or wrong. You see, on this planet, there are humans, and the humans have the capability of accidentally typing something incorrect. Including yourself. If you focus on the word “accidentally” that is mentioned above, you will realise that the person typing the comment accidentally typed the incorrect version of “at its greatest extent.” The word “wut” ironically, is also the incorrect version of the word “what.” Another thing that is ironic, is that you yourself, huh968, has typed an incorrect version of the correct version before.
Let’s not forget the countless times when an anime reuses the exact same 30-60 second long attack animation, but with a blue or black void behind it, over and over again every single time the character attacks. Also very common in Tokusatsu shows like Power Rangers.
Thank you Caleb for informing everyone in a subtle way that "nip it in the bud" and "couldn't care less" are the correct phrases and teaching us all that colloquial phrases are precise elements of our speech that cannot be approximated. That's what this one was about right? :P
Could care less is correct. It is informing the person you are talking to that you care less than they do. "No one could care less than I." "I could, darling. I could care less."
@@macdaddymario By your example, yes, it is correct. But if one were to say, "Stop talking; I could care less", that'd be incorrect. That implies that they care at least a little bit.
@@macdaddymario Caleb's talking about the frequent misuse of a well-known phrase not whether or not that misuse is grammatically correct. Could care less is the wrong usage of the intended saying.
This reminds me of Eyeshield 21, when every play would have characters on the sideline giving a detailed explanation on what's happening, even though the play itself would realistically only be about 10 seconds
“UH!!!!” *anime surprised face* “He’s playing THAT card. Although I didn’t think he’d do it so early, he’s using an incantation that grants him 2.4% bonus hit points. But 2.4 backwards is 4.2, which means I don’t know what I’m talking about I’m high on cocaine.”
Dio paused time for a few seconds to: 1) Walk down some stairs 2) Pick up Polnareff 3) Drop Polnareff down like 5 stairs 4) Run back to the top of the stairs 5) Resume posing 6) Repeat 1-5 like 3 times for no reason
The only thing missing is realizing they had the power of friendship to suddenly run even faster than light speed, and they figure this out WHILE they are running.
Same feeling when there's a whole fight going on, then someone shows up to help and they have a whole conversation in the middle of the battle. And the villain is just standing there letting them talk.
It would be funny if they started talking only to get interrupted by the villain. Or if the villain tried to interrupt, but the characters just dodged/blocked while continuing their casual conversation
Sometimes that gets annoying though, especially if you're trying to imitate the way people actually _speak._ People don't always speak in a grammatically accurate way.
@@rhondahoward8025 Though, in writing your goal is not to make your characters talk like actual people 100%. People do make mistakes, but they do it A LOT. There's stuttering, pauses, lapses and all other kinds of flaws that having too much of would destroy flow. The key is to make your characters believable. Not realistic. ^-^ You don't want them acting too far in either direction.
I would like to point out that this is also true in D&D, where there is a definitive limit to how many attacks you can make in a round, but you can make an entire villain speech, and responses, in the same amount of time. By the way, a round is defined as "Six Seconds".
Just realized that when mfs fight for a whole episode they say “It was all over in a minute” but when mfs fight for three days we don’t even see it lmaoooo
i’ve always been under the impression that once you care less than a certain level, it involves actively avoiding the subject, which would be more effort than if you could care less i could care less, but why bother?

I make skits just like calebcity. Check them out!

There you go, I ended the chain
"Is this filler?" Is the most realistic line i have ever experienced when watching anime
I loved the part where he thinks "Oh no, I won't be able to dodge this one."
I see stuff like that all the time in anime, and my reaction is always "Uh, yeah if you have enough time to think about it, then you obviously have enough time to move."
No, because the mind is faster than the body, that's why one needs to train his body even more than his mind!
@@Leyhkeze If you have enough time to process they are about to hit you and think about it, then you have enough time to dodge.

The monologues between attacks is literally just the animation studio saying we're not spending any more time or money on another punch or kick. These characters are going to use their words for the next 6 episodes.

Hey!
FAXX
I remember another such moment in Jojo.
There was this scene I recall where they were doing this move where they were jumping off their Stands to gain a vertical boost. But they had them monologuing for so long in-between the attack that it looked more like they were flying and not Stand-Jumping.
He must’ve stopped time to speak lol
Guess that's why they call it "Bizarre" lol
That’s another thing: DIO says he can stop time for 5 seconds, and then 9 seconds by the end of the fight. However, he spends at least 10 seconds at the start of EVERY time stop talking about how Jotaro can’t defeat him.
The one that always got me was FMA:Brotherhood. Bradley is taking his killing swing at the old ninja and we know both of them are super fast. But during the swing he says 2 whole sentences, one of which remarked on how quick he was. 😑
Pretty sure that was an internal monologue on Bradley's part. His mouth isn't moving at all.
Lol

@shi pou small delay? Light is around 1 million times faster than sound in air.
