It was wonderful taking my Math 1 midterm on a picnic table in Klamath Falls, Oregon, over the Memorial Day holiday in 1974. We all trusted each other to respect the time limits (if any) and the open/closed book rules, giving us the freedom to take the Blue Book exams when and where we wanted. However, there was the physics exam that said you could use Feynman, meaning the red books that are the Feynman Lectures on Physics. One student interpreted this literally (as if he didn’t know what they meant) and went to see Feynman in his office to get help on the exam. The instructions were clarified on future exams.
