    Thanks for taking time to reply. Yes it shows up in Abelton, but no, I did not trying mapping in preferences. I'm new to all things MIDI. It's not a deal breaker if I can't get it to work. Like I said, very pleased w/ Keystation overall. Virtual synths give you a lot of sounds on the cheap.

      Have you got the Lite version of Ableton? Yeah, you can get third party plugins for synths galore. A lot of them are free with hardware or can be downloaded for free.

      Cheers! It’s still going strong. The keys are a bit sticky on first press each time I use it, but that doesn’t affect playing. I mainly use AKAI MPK MINI 3

      @@amjan I made the research in 2-3 hours and I go pick this up tomorrow. Cool to finally have a new 61 keys midi controller after 15 years with a childhood keyboard at home (it was enough for midi use, I of course have real pianos around, yet lately the drivers are not being supported anymore).

    I picked this up on sale for $150. I'm gonna use it with my MPC one and some other midi hardware I have . I chose it over others due to that functionality , while also being simplistic on top, as I'm doing most of my modulation from my MPC

    Looks like a relative improvement on my old M-Audio Keystation. Nice review, and the blue flip flops were a nice touch ;)

      Thank you so much! I’m so glad someone noticed and actually commented on the flip flops. It’s the little details that I really chew my knuckles over. Shane it’s wasted on so many people. Blue. You know, I almost went for black. So happy I didn’t now x

    I approve of the star wars style opening, sir. Semi-weight keys rock.

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, semi weighted is an acceptable compromise. I have noticed a slight improvement in feel of the key action, as though the springs and contact points needed wearing in. The velocity sensitivity increments vary depending on the software instrument it is triggering. A steinway has more increments that a string ensemble. Oh yeah, I always steal the Star Wars style whenever I can get away with it. I think it pleases Master Yoda when I do this.

    I'm tempted. Im a piano player and I want something not too large to put on my desk. This looks to be the best option. I would love to record proper grand piano sounds. I have a sustain pedal already with my Korg Sp170s, this looks awesome. I'll probably just use garageband

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  3 роки тому

      GarageBand is extremely underrated. It is much more sophisticated than is generally realised.What makes it more clever is the fact that it is so easy to use on account of being so intuitive. This keyboard works absolutely fine for GarageBand.

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  3 роки тому

      It might be a good idea to get the 88 key version if you want to record piano parts and you are a piano player. Of course you can still reach the lower and higher register with the 61 board, but you don’t really want to be doing that whilst in the middle of playing a piece.

  • @joseph-ow1hf

    I can't get the volume slider to work. It is set to control master volume by default. (can be assigned to other MIDI channels for different functions) Controller goes into a MacBook Pro running Ablelton Live and using virtual synths and organs. (both preloaded and added patches) Any thoughts? BTW: I'm very impressed with this unit especially for the price. Not using as piano, I have a Korg D1 for that duty.

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  2 роки тому

      Hi, Joseph. Have you selected this keyboard in systems preferences and mapped it in Ableton? Sorry if this is a silly question. To be honest, I can’t remember if this keyboard appears as an option in systems preferences, but you can map it quite easily. But like you said, it defaults as master volume and should work as such. Any IT tech support guy would suggest that you turn it all off and on again, but that just makes you want to garrotte him with his own mouse cable. You have probably tried that anyway. It maybe a hardware issue with the slider itself. But I doubt that. I’ll have a little investigate

    What is the default position for the modulation wheel? I have the 49 key version, and can’t figure out if the modulation wheel should be rolled all the way forward, rearward, or in the middle.

    • @customofthesea2
      @customofthesea2  2 роки тому

      Hi. I’m thinking that the default position would be in the middle within the DaW and as soon as you move the mod wheel, the DAW will read from what ever position the wheel happens to be in. So if you have a sound selected in the DAW and the mod wheel is rolled fully toward you., as soon as you start to roll it, the DAW will jump to the lowest of the range of modulation and sync with your movements. I will check that. This may vary depending on software.

    • @nitegoat1369
      @nitegoat1369 2 роки тому

      @@customofthesea2 Thanks. I’m using Abelton 11 Lite, and you’re correct; the modulation is not effected, until I move the modulation wheel on my Keystation 49 MK3. If it is in the most forward position, as soon as I move it, it will create the most modulation.

      It should be able to. You’ll need the appropriate connector of course. I was thinking of doing a similar thing with my iPad . Let me know how you get on.
