@America TheBeautiful true that , as most drive cars, that will connect to the Bluetooth, and they're on the phone talking , to dumb to set up probably 😅
I'm from South Korea where this car was designed and the Hyundai Accent is my favorite compact car available here. The Accent is used for driving school tests in Korea and is loved by those who want a fuel-efficient and low-priced car. I think it's a very good car for short distances and city driving. One thing to remember before you buy this car is that the Accent is designed to fit the narrow Korean roads and small Asian bodies. Of course, if you're a driver who likes to cross Texas every day at 75 mph driving a heavy three-ton Chevy pickup or SUV, you'll definitely hate this car. The smart way to choose a car is to buy one that fits your budget and circumstances. If you don't like small cars, buy another big and nice car. The important thing is not to choose a safe car, but to be a safe driver. For example, Japanese drivers drive small vans that are much more dangerous than this car. Interestingly, they rarely get into an accident.
I have a 2005 Accent... is much safer.. and I mean it... it has bolts and nuts everywhere :D everything it's tucked in and no part is flimsy at all! Almost an iron shileded :D antibullet.... for the bumpy roads and gives a feeling of safety you wount get in other cars that old :D
A friend of mine is a very high paid attorney who specializes in automobile accident deaths. He's won hundreds of millions of dollars for his clients and knows everything about every possible statistic and how almost every car on the road is rated and built. We were talking about this very thing while I was down mediating a case in Austin Tx last week. He's basically "seen it all" and when I asked based on the accidents he's seen/studied what he considers a very safe car, he simply said "I've bought every one of my 4 children a Subaru Outback or Forester when they got their license"...'nuff said. Basically the Subies are built with an integral roll cage frame. If you look at them you'll notice the lack of a door frame. The window is "free". That's because in other cars, the door frame IS a part of the structure whereas the Subaru's are basically a "box" which needs no added structure on the door for strength. When you get into certain aspect accidents and the door is compromised...the entirety of the passenger compartment is greatly weakened. Not so in the Subaru's.
I owned a Hyundai Accent 2014 hatchback which I traded it in 2018 for a Forester. The differences are like day and night as far as build quality and safety. So you're right.
Well, yes. Souped up teenager cars get crashed all the time. That's why the Honda Civic is wrecked the most out of any car. They're cheap and easy to rice out. However, I'm a teenager who's an actual car enthusiast and I work on old American cars. I've never been in an accident, never gotten a ticket, never had any problems with driving and I drive 15k per year on some of the iciest road conditions in existence, especially this last winter. Are all teenagers bad drivers? No, not all. Only some.
@MerksPintSizedPenis i live in a small town..i liked it so much i now have a chevy spark i bought the spark when it was three years old..for $7300!it sold brand new for$13,000..almost half off!
The key to safely drive a small car is to drive defensively. Always anticipate what could go wrong in any driving situation and be prepared. If another driver is acting erratically or aggressively, give them plenty of room. Some drivers are obviously intoxicated, adjust your position accordingly. On the highway, drive slightly faster than the slow drivers, but slower than the fast drivers, a substantial space can open up between these two groups and this space can be safer than the congested areas.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Accent. I accidentally rear ended a lady probably only 5mph but my car had no damage and not a scratch and hers had minor paint chips. So I don't think the Hyundai Accent is necessarily dangerous, I think since it's a cheap, efficient car a lot of parents buy it as their kids first car and we all know how damn hard it is for teenagers to get off their freaking phones while driving. Just my two cents.
I was thinking the same thing as well. Since these cars ranked the highest, it's probably because that is what people ultimately purchased. Some people use their wallets to make decisions for them.
I have a 2008 Hyundai Accent hatchback. In 2011, I was at a stop light in the left lane, an old F-150 was crossing in front of me and turning left, it was raining, he fishtailed and smushed the front left corner of the car, did considerable damage, the costs were just shy if a total. I didn't have a scratch, the front end crumpled, none of the impact transfered to the passenger compartment. As far as I'm concerned that car's design certainly saved me from injury, may well yave saved my life. Hyundais are great cars. The body shop of the Hyundai dealership in Salem, OR rebuilt my car, did a fantastic job, I still have it, am getting ready to sell only because I now have a problem with my left leg that makes it unsafe for me to drive a clutch.
Here in Egypt we have hyundai accent 2004 called in Egypt "Verna" They sell it as new 2019 for 11.5 Thousand dollars without even one air bag and no Abs we call it the Flying coffin
The Accent/Elantra has a 5 star rating from the ANCAP so maybe there are other factors involved, like the type of people who drive those particular cars.
I just bought a Sonata with the V6 after driving a manual Rio for the last 16 years. It’s so nice not having to shift but I’m still getting used to the extra juice.
I had a first year Soul. It was a great car. Very reliable, nimble, fuel efficient, roomy, and fun to drive. I did total it this Nov when a giant buck stepped in front of it- 70 mph impact. Air bag deployed. Not a scratch of injury. Not an unsafe car at all. You should try one.. Yeah I hated kia too, until I owned this car. You are wrong about this one- Scotty
He did tell us why they are dangerous! A cheap car, especially, these Korean ones, are cheap for a reason. Regardless who is driving, the quality of the steel in the car will save your life in a crash!
@@marinazagrai1623 right but its the diver who usually determines if there is a crash or not. id be curious at what percentage of those deaths were the drivers fault vs being a victim. i bet the majority were the drivers fault.
I owned 30 cars in my life and the most dangerous ones were clearly the 93-97 Corollas. When it was not catching fire, it could stop running/lighting/braking/turning at any moment. It once happened on a slippy icy road in winter. Having no more steering or brakes, the car slipped 90 degrees and i ended up in the opposite way with a semi truck braking and stopping 1 inch of my door. Let me tell you i don't feel unsafe in my 2016 Accent now...
I learned to drive manuals in a 94 Corolla. One of the best cars I've ever owned. Cheap and super reliable . I'm shocked you went through all that, but I'm glad you're still with us!
@@bryantdeleon7462 I,m glad you had no problem. I had 3 of them and they were all costly to repair and broken all the time. Engines and transmissions were reliable, everything else was VERY weak. Have a nice day man! ;)
You are spot-on about the Versa. My wife rented one of those tin cans with wheels we drove from Maryland to Illinois and back I don't know if I prayed more that we would survive or that it would just get us there and back.
I have an 2016 Hyundai Accent pretty good car... BUT... the handling is crap stock. The issue with this car is the cheap skinny tires and beam in the back. Replace the shocks with a veloster set. The handing improves a lot
My wife was hit 4 times in her 2013 hyundai accent sedan and was not injured at all. 2 of them were very hard hits. Not totalled in any of the accidents either.
Thank you scotty, I'm planning on buying a used car, maybe a 2012 , what brand you think i should get. I'm planning on a Toyota, I have a 2093 camry and 2003 Tundra. The camry is a manual transmission I'm getting tired of driving shift. What vehicle you suggest.
Idk man... my 2014 Hyundai Accent has given me 2 accidents with fairly rough impacts. One with an F350 and the other with a Ford Focus. No airbags went off and no injuries(besides a couple minor bruises).
Mountaincam as a lady who watches a lot of lifestyle videos and even makeup related videos and comedy channels, I really love this guy’s channel. Makes me wish I utilized my time at community college to get a diesel tech degree. Cars are such a cool topic considering I spend everyday in mine for many many hours.
I have a 2008 Hyundai, only thing that had to be changed was oil and the spark plugs. It shows 200000 km, but I think it is more like 300000 in reality. I would recommend Hyundais.
My father had a 2006 hyundai elantra and he bought it new and had some mods done to the drivetrain one day as he was coming back from work a guy with a vw passat 2014 ram into him head on at around 70 80 km my dad walked away without a scratch the other guy was badly injured and he stayed in hospital for 3 months
I almost made the mistake of buying the accent or scion because of the prices on face book market place. Glad I went back and took a look at the this video again.
I have you to thank for saving my life! 😄I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately because I’m looking to buying a used car and I decided on either a Civic, Corolla, Camry, or Fusion at the moment! Wish I would have came around your videos when I first started looking
Lora buy any of the 3 cars you mentioned except the Fusion. The only ford you should be buying is a truck if you need; otherwise, Chevy trucks are better. Good luck
I’ve been in an accident with a 2014 Accent (that was also a rental) that happened from hydroplaning on a wet highway in the middle of the night trying to avoid a deer in the middle of the road when I was heading back to my campus after an emergency I had to deal with. Didn’t hit the guardrail as hard as I thought at first, but the right rear of the car was completely destroyed and was undrivable. Thankfully I was only shaken up from the wreck, nothing more.
Now Scotty, I know I'm only one person here, but I've owned a couple Souls and I had a base model 2011 and I got in a pretty bad accident with it in the winter a few years back and went into the ditch and spun it around. I ended up getting out completely untouched. I bought another '11 after that, this time with the 2.0l in a Standard Transmission and I had plenty of fun with that one. They are alot more fun to drive with a Standard than they are with Automatic. And I'd say in my own opinion they've been pretty safe.
I own and drive 2007 Hyundai Accent hatchback, gotta say I love this car! It's got a lot of extra safety features too, handles quite well on Alaska winter icey roads too
2009 Accent, good car more power than the smaller sub compact mini's,, but not much bigger and close to same mileage. I like a 2 door hatch now most are 4 doors which is what they did to the Accent.
@Sam Santos Its just simple fact.. Look it up.. Women take up 68% of all crashes.. That's not even close to being an even split. I don't know about you; But I know several crazy women drivers that make me wanna walk.. They're out there, believe me.
Now I can say I have got a 2010 Nissan Versa, bought it new and love it !!! And other then general maintenance it has over 161,000 miles on it and still running great right now it needs breaks and those will be taken care of this week...🚙
@@bikeman1x11 - I just bought my 4th Hyundai a week ago, I have had Hyundais since the mid 90's, and they are good cars, and over the last 10-15 years, they have really become competitive with even Toyota and Honda.
I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent SE. It corners like a boss and is very fun to drive. I've been impressed with it's toughness and reliability. I live on a winding dirt road that I used to treat as a rally course leaving for work at 4am. My driveway itself is over 650 ft long and on a hill. It gets washed out heavily after heavy storms. I can't always fix it very quickly so it can be rough and jarring. I have only had to replace one wheel bearing and the stabilizer links during 6 years of this treatment. Like Scotty says about the Scion though, the numbers don't lie. I'm pretty sure the bigger issue is the small cars sharing the road with the people buying trucks the size of their egos and half the size of their insecurities.
My son was driving a 2013 Kia Rio, in March a deer hit HIM! We noticed the airbag didn’t deploy, we figured it might be because the deer hit his fender. Anyway, the deer didn’t make it but thankfully my son wasn’t hurt. The insurance company totaled the Rio, now he’s driving a 2017 Honda Accord, he’s much happier...
Joseph Wallace - a huge buck landed on the hood of my 2000 El Dorado up in the mountains about 10 yrs ago, the deer didn’t make it; the insurance company paid me $6500, I had paid $2500 cash when I bought it the year before - lol
Rios and Accents are driven a lot as rentals so miles are high - 30,000 miles a year. Your stats are based on percentage of registrations not deaths per miles driven. But Consumer Reports has long argued that 3000 pound sedans have better survival than lighter cars. I think IIHS has a similar position. Other than high miles from rentals, I think a lot of teenage drivers get these, usually 3 years or more older. Rios and Kias used to be flimsy but the 2018 platform update fixed that.
How hard is it too put a seatbelt on to use indicators and to put away the cell phone really how hard is it. Takes two seconds to clip the belt in not even a second to flick the indicators on and no seconds to put down the phone cause you shouldn't even be touching it at all why'll driving
I had a work emergency about a year ago and was going 95 down the interstate at 3am. I was passed by one of those smart cars like I was parked. Must have been going 150. I have no way of knowing if it was modified but I didn’t think they could go anywhere near that fast.
I have a 2007 Scion TC and has been very good to me over the past 6 or 7 years with hardly any problems. Is there any knowledge that I should know about them that I should know about? I almost have almost 138k miles on it and bought it at 93k. This is my first car and haven't bought another car yet.
Scotty is correct about the Ford Focus, those cars can take a hit. I got hit freaking hard in the front/drivers side corner and I walked away with zero injuries. The car was completely mashed. I took the insurance $$ and bought another Focus.
It's just too bad people dont know how to drive a dual clutch. They think it's a regular slushbox. Dual clutches wear out when you creep forward in traffic real slow.
@@Ironsja11 can't go wrong there. I have the DCT but I bought a custom tune for it. Drives great. Not a bad design IMO, just poorly executed on the software portion by Ford. Renault sells a car with the same transmission and it doesn't have the problems the Fiesta and Focus do. Real eye opening.
Scotty I am thinking of buying a used 2014 Mazda MX-5 GS for 23k CDN (40k -kms); buying automatic transmission with the theory being that the owners probably went easy on the car and it will be less appealing to steal. Thoughts? Great content as always!
Hey scotty i have a 2007 nissan versa that i bought new which is pretty reliable . I just replace the oil and brake pads transmission and motor at my opinion are bulleproof
Scotty- I generally agree with most everything you say, though KIA and Hyundai have the most combined IIHS Safety Pick Plus ratings for 2019. Including my 2019 KIA Stinger and our KIA Sorento. As for the Cooper’s, your opinion didn’t match the crash test scores. You need to track those ratings and watch those IIHS crash test videos for each of the Hyundai and KIA vehicles prior to claiming they both make flimsy and unsafe cars. That’s just not true! Bottom line, both KIA and Hyundai are different companies than they were ten years ago. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
Correct, they are on an upward trend. Hyundai group is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers. So a lot of the newer Hyundai and Kia products use a lot of high-strength steel which helps with their safety ratings going up.
I'm thankful to beat the odds. I was in an accident in a 2016 Hyundai Accident in March of 2017. Survived with a hairline fracture of my pelvis. No small feat for a 6'2" driver in a near t-bone collision. Most of the vehicles are cheaper to buy and most are probably driven by young people and old people. Those two demographics are charged higher premiums for reason. Anyway love your vids Scotty
@@user-zd9fc4vs4q Like OP said, it's probably the demographic, not the car. Cheap cars = lots of teenage drivers = stupidity = lots dead. I haven't been checking individual cars these days but Hyundais have done pretty well on crash tests for almost two decades.
@@user-zd9fc4vs4q Elantra are really better built than accents in almost everyway, and then it also has about 2.5 to 4 times less deaths per million depending on the year made, about 18 model there is no data yet ? But generally elantras do not compare to accents
ki jssn, why do you think it DIDN'T HAD A CHANCE IN H3LL to be sold in NoAm? The Regulators would've laughed at poor Mr. Rattan... There are such published lists for the Indian sub-continent that include 5 DIFFERENT CARS and can be even from European or American-based manufacturers...
Those cars such as the Hyundai Accent could also have higher crash fatality numbers due to higher sales numbers but if you consider overall percentage of sales to fatalities it could be lower.
I have to defend the Soul. My teenage daughter hit a driver who pulled out in front of her on the Interstate at 70mph. Both cars totaled but the Soul safety systems worked perfectly including belts, air bags and crumple zones. She walked away with just bruises and soreness from the air bag and seat belt and nothing else. When she went to buy a replacement she got a duplicate car, even the same color and still drives it today.
thank you for putting me at ease. i bought a 2013 Soul in September 2020 as it is roomy and more importantly has 6+ airbags. I look at safety before looking at any other feature of a car and was shocked that scotty put it as a bonus car. Thank goodness your daughter was well protected by the car and guardian angels that day, and thank you for sticking your neck out in the soul's defense :)
My aunt owned three different generations of nissan versas and had never had any problems with any of them. They are good and reliable cars nonetheless. I agree on the fact that they are less safe, but throwing them under the bus is pretty low here..
I believe the injury and fatality rate is more a reflection of the demographic that buys those cars rather than the cars themselves. Similarly, you can probably ask one of those owners if they change their oil regularly... They may respond with a blank stare
I agree, all of those looks like something a young inexperienced person would drive, also the type of person most likely to use their phone while doing so.
They probably didnt know it has/had oil ... Beleive me I have met a few. But worse. Are those who know...butnjuat dont do it..then try to complain, bit#! & moan and make legal threats... But never had an oil change and the odometer reads 30,40....even 80+ on one particular vehicle... Smh...
@@adwhite804 I knew someone who went 50,000 miles without changing the oil and filter. They bought the car with 30,000 miles so it was on 80,000 miles. They were also driving with scored front rotors. I drove that car and was immediatly blown away by how badly it was driving. I immediatly made them take it to a mechanic to get it fixed and remarkably it still runs today with 130,000 miles on it.
For some reason whenever I rent an economy class car, I'm always given a Versa. I guess as a rental I don't care, but I know what you mean by them not being all that safe or feeling all that safe, not to mention they are under powered. I mean they'll get you going on the highway but passing, especially in windy weather might be a challenge, plus I found you can get thrown around a bit if it's really windy out side. Not the same as driving a slightly heavier vehicle like a Focus or even a Chevy Cruize. I personally wouldn't buy a Versa, partially because it's a Nissan but also because they literally sound like a tin can when you close the doors, etc.
That's why I drive a 97 Mercury Mountaineer with a GT40, 4 wheel disc and all wheel drive. I also do the maintenance myself and this combination allows me to fear no F350! Yes it's older but bfd.
Statistics can lie and liers can quote statistics. The Hyundai and Kia stats are high regarding deaths because of how & who drives them. The deaths are mostly due to speed, poor driving, and alcohol consumption, and due the low cost of these cars (both new & used), these are favourite cars among the young set...teenagers and 20 year olds. The cars are cheap, sporty looking, and driven like sport cars, hence the likelyhood of being in an accident and being crushed by a big, heavy SUV. If you want to protect your children...buy them trucks or vans as their first car...much safer and they just might survive an accident and drive more safely. Scotty didn't mention this but the Honda Civic also falls into this category... too small, too sporty and driven too fast by teenagers.
Got Elantra GT 2016 , 50k miles , got problem with headlight switch, turning off suddenly, going to replace switch , other than that, not a luxury car, but, It's fairly solid, doors sound good
I think it’s the car plus the age range of the drivers. Those Hyundai’s and Kias are probably driven by lot of younger drivers who drive more recklessly statistically. My 2016 Kia Sedona minivan was the highest safety rated in its class, tying the Honda Odyssey. Hyundai group is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturing companies also. So Hyundai and Kia products use a lot of high-strength steel on their higher end models which helps a lot in crashes.
Sad to say the Hyundai gets the best mpg mileage 40 mpg ,every car is dangerous with a bad driver.Nothing can beat this car unless you go EV. One of the few companies that don’t lie about mpg and sell a car ; Honda, Toyota,Hyundai call it like you see it Also the Elantra handles exceptional well
I drove a 2003 Hyundai Accent GLS for 4 years in Alaska. Very Friendly Economy Fuel. I sold it for $4500 and bought a 2012 Scion XD for $4000. Best car ever purchase for me. Solid bullet proof engine.😎💪
Was working Hyundai dealership. 3 separate times seen a Hyundai get towed in that made us cringe knowing there was no possible way anyone in the vehicle could have survived. 2x they not only walked away but without a scratch. 3rd time she was admitted overnight for observation, yet again walked away with a small quarter sized bruise and about an inch long scratch. Granted these 3 vehicles were all Elantras, that was enough for me to purchase 1.
Gonna have to disagree with you regarding the Kia Soul. I have a 2010 and it got 5 star ratings in the crash tests. But in 2012 they introduced a driver-side small overlap frontal crash and the Kia Soul failed that test. But the newer models were beefed up and they passed the small overlap test.
Ava Gates yeah me 2..if they rear end someone or someone from behind pushes them into a car in front of them they can't escape through the front doors..have to climb to back and get out the back doors

Correlation is not causation, simple

Exactly on that fast/slow/space things. Let those other drivers via for an imaginary pole position. Lol

Agreed
Adults too..every 2nd person I pass or drive next to me, are on their phones..TEXTING?! Really..texting?!

I agree. Hyundai and Kia are consistently rated high in safety. I've never felt unsafe in mine and I have been in an accdient,
Correct, they are on an upward trend. Hyundai group is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers. So a lot of the newer Hyundai and Kia products use a lot of high-strength steel which helps with their safety ratings going up.

For some reason whenever I rent an economy class car, I'm always given a Versa.

Thanks Scotty for doing your research so I don't have to! Love to watch your videos. 😎👍

Scotty had to use the bathroom.
MoparRob440 attention all units, possible explosion reported in sector 10
MoparRob440 - or a giant fart
LOL 😂
I feel the train a comin its rollin round the bend.
😂😂
I think it’s the car plus the age range of the drivers. Those Hyundai’s and Kias are probably driven by lot of younger drivers who drive more recklessly statistically. My 2016 Kia Sedona minivan was the highest safety rated in its class, tying the Honda Odyssey. Hyundai group is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturing companies also. So Hyundai and Kia products use a lot of high-strength steel on their higher end models which helps a lot in crashes.
The Celica you have were solid! My nephew had one as a young guy! They were quick, great on fuel.
Cars aren’t necessarily deadly. Drivers are!
Cars aren’t made for crashing anyway.
(I’m irritated because my car’s brand is on the list lol)
Thanks Scotty. Youre always a wealth of knowledge
Sad to say the Hyundai gets the best mpg mileage 40 mpg ,every car is dangerous with a bad driver.Nothing can beat this car unless you go EV.
One of the few companies that don’t lie about mpg and sell a car ; Honda, Toyota,Hyundai call it like you see it
Also the Elantra handles exceptional well
Love the mileage on my hyundai 1.6-liter gdi coupled to a 6 speed manual. I have a 107k on it at the moment we'll see how it lasts.
One of the issues with the Scion's might be because they're driven by young drivers, going to fast, while texting. 🤷🏼♂️
Is a 2016 elantra worth it to purchase?
I got a 2010 hyundai accent hatchback for my first car, I believe i'm in the clear.
What was the mileage
Gonna have to disagree with you regarding the Kia Soul. I have a 2010 and it got 5 star ratings in the crash tests. But in 2012 they introduced a driver-side small overlap frontal crash and the Kia Soul failed that test. But the newer models were beefed up and they passed the small overlap test.
Well at least the PT Cruiser didn't make that list 😂😂
Theres only like 10000 still on the road...
Ava Gates yeah me 2..if they rear end someone or someone from behind pushes them into a car in front of them they can't escape through the front doors..have to climb to back and get out the back doors
Yeah. I have two pt's. People put down your cell phone!
@@glengerdes2447 my friend in Wellington Kansas has two PT Cruisers 2001 first generation and 2006 second generation beautiful awesome cars just maintenance nightmares cheers
PT Cruisers are incredibly safe cars. They're always broken so you can never drive and get killed in them!
Funny u mentioned shutting the doors in a Focus. I just bought a 2021 manual focus hatchback as a delivery vehicle. Runs n drives grate! When I first shut the door it just felt solid and reminded me of a couple old Volvo‘s that I had💪🏽
Thx for ur wise words n ur fine sense of humor🤙🏽
Great! ( Not Grate! ) I help when I can : )
