    I absolutely loved the voice of Chuck Thompson. There were never two better announcers than Mr. Thompson and Curt Gowdy. When NBC covered the World Series when the Orioles played in them in the 60s and 70s you had the thrill to hear both of them in the broadcast booth. You really realize how much they are missed when you have to endure the lousy announcers around now (especially Joe Buck-who I turn off the volume when he covers any game)

      Joe Buck doesn’t broadcast network baseball anymore, so it’s safe to raise the volume.

    In 1980 i went to play golf at pine ridge one day. I was 15 and went out alone. The starter had me play in a 4 some with Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver and Chuck Thompson. They couldn't have been nicer. I still hear chuck's voice and laughter echoing through those pine trees. Great memory and they all could play.

    Didn’t know John Boog Powell played the outfield I remember him as a. power hitting first baseman

    • @myszek46
      @myszek46 3 місяці тому

      Boog could move a little when he was younger and wasn't a bad outfielder. O's first baseman when Boog broke in was Jim Gentile, who had a lot of power and was an RBI machine for a while (47 HRs and 141 RBIs in 1961). Gentile was later traded to make room for the Boog

    Amazing that they actually used to teach “breaking up the double play”. That has totally disappeared now because of the rules preventing such breaking up.

    Those really were the good old days. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and the other contrived wars were years in the future. No global warming, X- rated everything or computers. People actually respected each other.

    The Orioles were managed by Billy Hitchcock during 1962, but the club plummeted to a 77-85 record that season.
