As a lifelong MN/WI resident, I agree with Ann Marie. Lake Life is everything and, in her defense, our lovely lakes aren't infested with snakes, gators, or brain eating ameoba. The worst thing you might run into is swimmer's itch or cutting your foot on some zebra mussels. We also have "the beach" all long the Great Lakes coast. No salt, no sharks, no jellyfish!
Except for …. When there are brain-eating amoebas in MN Lakes, which are r a r e, so rare, but yes deadly, prob more so than the what was it, the dog sharks?? The little sharks that Kim was defending at the beach in their Midwest vs. South beach battle? Like, yes, they bite…. But it’s REALLY Rare …… lol, no snakes but yes occasionally deadly amoebas ! Love this video and this producer, Ann Marie (Holy Moses that’s a Midwest NAME, ohmygawsh) is finally getting her due !! You go Ann Marie ! But I love the ocean, too. Except the romance went out I didn’t know I had to keep my mouth like piranha face SHUT TIGHT in the Ocean. Ouch ! Bleck !

Hello from the other side... of the lake (Chicago.) 👋 Just came here to say the same thing-- if you're on a Great Lake, you get the best of both worlds! 🏖🌊🏄♂️ (oh yeah, I saw a few surfers the other day 😊)
As someone who grew up in the middle of nowhere going to lakes but now living just an hour away from Cape Cod, I’m conflicted. But not about how great this song is! Bravo 🙌
Not conflicted. Grew up in IN. Saw the ocean once. Now I vacation on Cape Cod every summer, gets me through the winter. One of the best parts of living out here!
Toronto has an area called The Beaches, which are beaches on Lake Ontario. There is also Wasaga Beach on Lake Huron so I support the fact that there are beaches on lakes. In fact they are better than some ocean beaches, no rocks, jelly fish, man-o-wars, sharks, etc.
Grew up on East Coast with beach. For the last 27 years, I've lived in Minnesota with over 10,000 lakes. I like beach in the off-season, lakes all year round. As your song so brilliantly explained, there are pros and cons to both. I'll take them both . . . Because they're both water and that's one of my favorite things.
I'm from Michigan. We have everything listed in both parts of this song except hurricanes (thankfully!). Lots of lakes, lots of nice beaches. And our beaches vary, some are very sandy, you can build sand castles, some people surf, some lakes have riptides, we have beautiful sunrises and sunsets, we even have PELICANS! And not all lakes have snakes, and definitely NONE of them have sharks or alligators!
This was hysterical. As a Michigander I have to vote Team Lake. It's in my DNA. Beaches for miles, beautiful and can we reiterate what our t-shirts say here." The Great Lakes Unsalted and shark free"! Wonderful song/video. Have a great weekend guys! Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭
I actually know people from up there that can't tell me whether the Great Lakes are salted or not! (from the South) They've said, 'yes', 'no', 'maybe a little...' So are they? They are so big, it is conceivable that they might be somewhat in all that area. What is the true answer? Do you know? I mean, you think of a 'lake' as being fresh water.
@@adria89 Thank you! So, all of them? (They are like little mini-seas.) You have fresh water fish, then? And the water freezes more easily than salted water. L Michigan, Huron, Superior. Do you know about Erie and Ontario?
New Hampshire lakes are the best! Very clean and clear, no alligators or snakes to be afraid of, no flesh eating parasites 🤮. They are absolutely beautiful!
I just mentioned NH lakes. My grandparents had a cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee and I'd rather be there. I feel like our lake water is warmer than our ocean water.
There's nothing like a white sand beach AND the shores of Lake Michigan, so I'm torn!! And as someone who grew up in Chicago, but now lives in the South, I love Ann Marie's cameos!
Best lake memory I have was at my friend's grandparent's lake. 2 dogs went swimming in it and when they came out, they found me. I knew what they were up to, so I started running, but I slipped and fell going up a small hill that was wet from them going in and out. When I was on the ground, one stood on each side of me and they both shook at the same time. I was drenched and I knew they planned this.
I grew up in and still live in a town with three lakes. Lake Michigan is 60 miles away. Team lake all the way. There's no salt water to burn and dry out your skin. 😆
Native Michigander living in Minnesota, oceans are neat & all, but the lake, that's a whole nother story. Sand bottom lakes are usually not slimy or gross (especially if spring water fed) & if you've ever been on the waters of Northern Michigan, they're basically inland seas.
I live in West Michigan. We have white/golden sand, waves, rip tides, the whole bit. People say Lake Michigan looks like the ocean. It does cause more snow along the lakeshore in the winter, but I love living here.
So I live in Oregon and our beach is great when the water isn't 50 degrees and there isn't high winds. But at my grandparents lakehouse in Upstate New York I totally love it. Swimming, boating, tubing, waterskiing (my dad loves pulling out his tricks), the Main Dock... it doesn't really compare to the coast. One is actually fun and enjoyable, one is more for the experience, and maybe the aquarium.
Michigander here. I vote lake. Have been going on one of the lakes every summer for decades and have seen ONE snake. Been to both coasts once each and won’t go in the ocean past my knees. Worst thing about lake is swimmers itch if you sit in shallow water and don’t rinse off good when you are done. Not sharks, jellyfish, riptides, and all those other poison ocean critters. Nothing beats a day on the boat 🙌
I'm definitely LAKE! But the riptide, umfortunately, does still apply. At least in the big lakes. I happen to be a Lake Michigan girl, having been raised 45 minutes from either Mich City, IN or New Buffalo, MI. But still, the LAKE's got it!
Growing up in Michigan. We had small lakes to go on. I also had Lake Michigan that was close. That was a big lake that seemed like an ocean. That was going to the beach for me.
Lifelong Team Lake Michigan here! 100% lake over ocean! No salt, no sharks, no worries. Yep, we can get some wicked rip currents sometimes, but nothing in our 5 Great Lakes is trying to bite, sting, or eat you!! Sending love from Up Nort' Michigan! This was a wonderful collaboration you two! 💙🌊🌌🌊💙
I would just point out, to go to the beach, one just need jump in one's vehicle, could be a bicycle, and bring a folding chair, perhaps a cooler with snacks and/sundry needs. To go the lake, one needs a massive vehicle that can haul a boat. Including putting the boat down a ramp, then dragging it back up that ramp later. Then one needs a BOAT! I would point out keeping that boat in fuel is likely to be in excess of $200/day. Before one can even begin to enjoy the lake, tens of thousands of dollars need to be spent. That should factor into one's decision calculus.
I was today years old when I learned you can wear a life jacket upside-down so you can float higher then drink in the water I'm nominating Ann Marie for a Nobel prize in Physics.
Fun fact: Lake Michigan does sometimes have dangerous rip currents. I think the lake she was talking about was an inland lake, not one of the Great Lakes, which are also called inland seasm
This has to be one of my favorite songs so far! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I can identify with both sides. Grew up in Michigan enjoying the LAKES but have lived more of my life near the oceans and I LOVE the beach so much! There's nothing quite like the sound of waves and the taste of the salty breeze to relax to the max. I believe you hit on the BEST of BOTH sides here! BRAVO! (But loving BOTH, I have to cast my vote for the BEACH)
Growing up in NJ I’ve always loved the beach, but after living in CA for most of my adult life, I learned you could have it all with mountain lakes. Clear, turquoise water, nothing funky on the bottom, and the littles can play on the beach and in the water without waves to knock them over or riptides to worry about. Plus the most gorgeous mountain scenery and utter peace and quiet. My best “beach days” have been at gorgeous Sierra lakes.
Yes, I’ve been all about the Jersey shore for most of my life but there’s a tiny part of me that would like to try a mountain lake some day. :) My mom’s family lives on Lake Erie so I’ve been there countless times and I love the nostalgia factor but it’s not my thing.
❤Both.* Michigander here so it’s technically Lake for me. That’s my youth, and present, also heaps of beautiful lakes all around us - not just the Greats- so easily accessible. But…I do LOVE a beautiful Ocean Beach, and will soak it up whenever I can travel to one (plane or 12+ hr drive). Love them all too even when it’s cooler and stormy. If you’re a water person you can appreciate both. Cheers! 🌊
I'm not too far from Lake Michigan. It's definitely beautiful. I've only been to the ocean once, even though i used to live just a few miles away. The Lake does have a beach, its pretty wide. I haven't gone in the middle of summer though, so i don't know how busy it gets. This area also has tons of lakes anyway. They're everywhere.
I’m confused because I’m going to a lake with a beach today. 😅Great Lakes are amazing! No predators like sharks or jellyfish, (nor alligators!) plus sandy beaches, like the Indiana Dunes are amazing. Or Grand Haven, Michigan. Presque Isle in Erie, Pa. Tons of coastal beauty.
Here we also have Team Rivah. Similar to Team Lake except depending on where on the "rivah" you are, you can make a foray into the ocean with your boat if you want. If you are closer to the fall line, you can enjoy kayaking in the rapids. But like Team Beach, we also have to contend with hurricanes (but so do the Team Lake people depending on the track of the storm). Personally, however, I would have to vote for Team Beach.
Come up north and Check out Lake Huron - stunning sunsets, lovely sand, and the size makes you think you're facing an ocean. Michigan also has some amazing sand beaches.
This is hilarious. We have a lot of lakes in TN and one local to me actually has a great sandy beach to it! I have never seen snakes on the water here, and there are boats that go past farther out causing some nice little waves up on our 'beach'. Less crowded, too! ;) So, I love the ocean, but think I'd rather the lake.
Team Lake for sure! Just got back from the UP where we touched Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and Lake Huron. A little rocky, but I could listen to the waves all day and the boating is amazing.
Spending most of my life in visual distance from Lake Erie, I am going to have to say lake. I love when people tell me that there could be sharks in Lake Erie, my reply usually is, "Yeah but that up hill swim at Niagara Falls is a bit of a doozy."
The thing is at the beach, we don’t actually get in the water, unless you count walking through it along the beach - growing up in the NW we have both - only one is for swimming, the other is for relaxing.
When you live less than an hour from Cape Cod...you're team beach!! But...I'm also less than 3 hours from Lake Winnipesaukee so Team Lake!! Best of both worlds :) Great song!! Love the Midwest videos!!
Nah, Team River! :D OK, in all seriousness, I grew up mostly going to rivers (because I'm from the middle of nowhere, Mississippi), but we also regularly went to the beach (Gulf Coast, bay-bee!) Not really a lot of lakes to visit (but we had ponds, do those count? LOL) As somebody with ridiculous Scots-Irish skin that blisters within moments of stepping outside, I'll just stick with staying in the shade (even with my SPF9000, aka zinc plus long sleeves/pants), & the rest of y'all can enjoy all the water sports during daylight hours. (I like pools in the evening, because I don't have to worry about critters I can't see OR the murderous fire-ball in the sky.)
I grew up 1.5 hours NW of Chicago, but have lived in Vegas since '95. Lakes are all I have ever known and will always pick them (and rivers). I have been to oceans - Pacific, Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. However, I was always terrified to get in the water because growing up (I am in my 40s now) my grandma and I watched Shark Week and I was not about to be dinner for whatever was out there. I hated snakes, but could deal with them.
I've never seen a snake swimming in a lake, slithering next to, yes, but never in the water. One bad thing about both, if you go deep enough you run into seaweed, its so slimy!
Another Michigander here and Lake Michigan for the win!! No snakes or muck...but you do get the rid tides so?? Love this!! All so true...that the big lake is best :)
Ive lived in the Willamette Valley or Rogue Valleys of Oregon my entire life…..it’s rivers, lakes and THE COAST all year long. Here in the NW we don’t go to the beach lol we go to the coast 😂.
Growing up in southern CAL...... absolutely the BEACH. But being now landlocked in Colorado.....I will take anywhere outside with water 😅....even sprinklers 😂
I like both beaches and lakes. A pro for a lake is since there are no waves so children generally don't have a fear of going into a lake, like they might with the ocean, and I see a lot of kids make sand castles right by the shore line and the castles stay for quite awhile because the water is still. I'm in the Midwest and we have a beach in my town that looks just like the beach that Penn is at so there are lake beaches out there that have really nice white sand. Lakes sometimes have playgrounds and picnic tables so there are more activities families can do at a lake. If I was equal distance from a beach and a lake right now though, I would probably go to the beach because I love seeing through the water and the waves are fun. Most Midwesterners I know go to the South or tropical places at least once a year so that they can go to a beach.
As a Man who has only ever been to ONE BEACH in my lifetime, (AND MANY, MANY LAKES) I have to say that the BEACH is Superior! ❤🏖️❤ (sorry, Neighbor!) ❤
LOL! Great song! I live in Wisconsin and our family had a cabin in Door County for 18 years. I only saw a snake in the water once. Parents retired to Florida. Went to the beach, and had sand in every crack and crevice. You can't even rinse off in the water because there are sand particles floating around! So lake, yes please. Or better yet, a swimming pool! 😄
From Topsail to Burt & Mullet Lakes watching this! Gotta say, the shark thing this summer is making my knees weak! Love this video! Kudos to you Penn, and Kim, and Ann Marie! Your videos together are always fab!
Best video since the pickleball tournament! Lake, definitely. Beach gets boring after a while. Going up north (MN) with a big group of friends next weekend!
As someone who grew up by the coast I’m team beach. I have always loved the ocean and have an ocean themed bedroom. With artwork of different marine life.
I'm Team Beach, but only because I'm a California girl who has lived my life less than an hour drive from the beach. I'm sure lakes are delightful. This song sure is!
Just got back from a week on Lake Superior. Rocky beach, no sand, sharks, or feeling in your feet. Big waves, freighters in the distance, 70 degrees (water was more like 50). It was amazing!
There may be snakes, but they're not venomous. They're not going to kill you, just freak some people out a little bit. Plus we have lake-gulls (like seagulls who fly over the bay are bagels).
Team lake and any videos with Ann Marie are instant favorites. I'm from Minnesota living in California. Just had family get together renting a couple cabins right on one of the many lakes. Crystal clear water, wonderful vacation. Unless I'm mistaken you left out all the bugs on the lake. Need to try the life jacket trick, low key brilliant.
Love this!! We are primarily a lake family and have never been to the beach. We are planning our first beach vacation in a few days, and I am totally approaching it like the Midwest mom. "OK, kids, everyone out of the water, we are just going to look at it." 😂😂😂 You gotta do beach vs lake skit. Thanks for the info on the stingray shuttle. I did not know about that.
I'm with both Penn and AnnMarie. I love the sound of the waves and the food places near the beach. But i love motor boating on the lake and we'll be lucky enough to find any food place.
I'm a fan of both. But I feel safer in a lake, depending on the state. I'm from Wisconsin, for example, so I'm not worried about gators. Sure, there are snakes and snappers, but the chances of them bothering you instead of swimming the heck away from you are very slim. Now, I definitely would not swim in a Florida lake (or the other states with gators). The ocean I'll only go like knee high probably lol, unless it's one of those clear water areas. If I can see through the water, then I'll ACTUALLY go swimming 😂 Like I've been out deep before, snorkeling in Key West. Saw a barracuda, that was terrifying 😅 but I SAW it, so there's that lol. I think you can do just as much of everything at each place, though. Like tubing, skiing, bonfire, etc. And you can find shells at a lake, too. Maybe not as pretty, not as big, etc, and no shark teeth lol but shells, yes. I'm just a water baby, so I'll take it all. Creeks, ponds, rivers, oceans, dams, quarries. May not swim in them all, but I'll enjoy being close.
I like being at both, but not so much in the water at either because of the various wildlife that I’m not interested in swimming with. I can happily relax and read a book on the dock or on a boat at the lake, or from a balcony overlooking the beach. The ocean sounds and breeze are hard to beat though.
Lived in Florida and South Carolina, as well as Ohio and Michigan. This song is TRUTH! Love 'em both. Glad I stumbled upon "y'all" :) --I'll be back for more!
Well im unexpectedly early to this and I haven’t watched one of these in a while 😂 Im team lake over beach I like the sand at beaches but then it gets everywhere and im no big fan on waves or go to far out from shore but lakes are a blast and so calm
As one who spent a week on a lake EVERY summer growing up.. I'm totally team beach. The ocean wins every time! Way more peaceful. Maybe I'd feel different if I was more into activities but I doubt it.
I'm with Ann Marie! I'm from Michigan. One of their state slogans is :
VISIT THE GREAT LAKES:
NO SALT/NO SHARKS! 🙂
I live in Minnesota and the Great Lakes are basically fresh water seas
Water and Winter Wonderland!
Same!!
We are spoiled here in Cleveland with Lake Erie. There really are some nice beaches. Nevertheless, I’m still Team Beach (ocean version).
Yes siree it's beautiful up here in the UP. Cool nights glorious days thank God for Michigan.
I am at home. With my air conditioning.
I would rather be home😂😂

I live off of Lake Michigan too and I have yet to see a snake on the water! The squeeky sand and swimability can't be beat!
But the Great Lakes are basically freshwater seas. Its kinda a hybrid of the two but with northern climate (way fewer snakes).
If they wanted sand.. they should go to Sleeping Bear Dune... There's a bit of sand there.. Lake Life all the way. :)

Yep. I grew up in South Bend, Indiana and now live in western Pennsylvania. But I still think of New Buffalo or Silver Beach in St. Joe as the lake!
My Happy Place is Mayflower Beach! ♥️
I love Mayflower!!! But Coastguard beach is my favorite.
Such a great song!!! Loved the harmonies! You both have fantastic voices. We're team lake here! :D
That was brilliant! Beach first, but far from me so Lake Michigan is a very close second. And no snakes!
Haha! Lakes for sure. Truly a Midwestern classic
I love what Anne Marie adds to your content! I don't have much of a dog in the fight; both have their charms!
Yeah, you have to approach the Great Lakes with the same respect as the ocean: rip currents, massive storm waves, etc. But still, love a good lake!
By "the big lake" do you mean Superior? 😁
Ive lived in the Willamette Valley or Rogue Valleys of Oregon my entire life…..it’s rivers, lakes and THE COAST all year long. Here in the NW we don’t go to the beach lol we go to the coast 😂.
I prefer ocean (California dreaming) BUT I now live in Michigan and I have to admit it's pretty darn awesome!!
Live near Lake Erie, vacation on Lake Superior. No water snakes. Love Lake and Beach life!
Gotta go with Ann Marie, as a fellow Northerrn Midwesterner who was lake raised I feel this in my soul 😄
Growing up in southern CAL...... absolutely the BEACH. But being now landlocked in Colorado.....I will take anywhere outside with water 😅....even sprinklers 😂
I for sure have this chorus stuck in my head! This is awesome. Also I'm pretty sure Ann Marie and I would be best friends if given the opportunity 😂
Ah, Lake Superior. I love the ocean but man do I have a nice lake.
One of your best videos yet!! I am team both. They both have their charm and their bad parts, but any where there's water.. I am all for it.
They both sound wonderful but the beach wins out for me. Especially in Hawaii. You can do all those lake things in the ocean bays in Hawaii.
As a Man who has only ever been to ONE BEACH in my lifetime, (AND MANY, MANY LAKES) I have to say that the BEACH is Superior! ❤🏖️❤ (sorry, Neighbor!) ❤
I am team Holderness and Annmarie. That was great. Hope you guys had as much fun as it looked.
LOL!
That was a bop! Loved it! As another person said... I'm team water... beach, lake, pool, really big bathtub... :)
I think we met Ann Marie's sister working the pay station at Kitchipie Big springs :) My kids said that lady was just like her!
There may be snakes, but they're not venomous. They're not going to kill you, just freak some people out a little bit. Plus we have lake-gulls (like seagulls who fly over the bay are bagels).
I live 1 block from Lake Michigan and kinda got the best of both worlds! 😊🏖🌊🏄♂️
Love, love Ann Marie! This is one of your best vids. Love it!
"OK, kids, everyone out of the water, we are just going to look at it." 😂😂😂
You gotta do beach vs lake skit. Thanks for the info on the stingray shuttle. I did not know about that.
just watch the signs and the flags you'll be fine
Lakes for the win! I like the beach but Lakes are FRESH WATER!!😅
Loved the song though!
Another song with the Midwest Neighbor and her midwestsplaining!! Also, as a Southerner, I have to vote for beach.
Sharks swim toward you, snakes swim away from you. Lake! Duh! Ann Marie and Penn are a great pair in this song.
You guys are the reason I am not bored at home
i love this song and i loved the duet .... and i love love love midwestern neighbour.... and im not even from the US !!!
Team Lake Michigan! No salt, no sharks or snakes. Perfection😂
Tubing? Dangerous? My dad only draws the line when we want to put four people on two tubes-now maybe consider a helmet!🙃
Gosh, I missed Anne Marie!!! Please make more videos with her! 🌸🌸🌸
I like being at both, but not so much in the water at either because of the various wildlife that I’m not interested in swimming with. I can happily relax and read a book on the dock or on a boat at the lake, or from a balcony overlooking the beach. The ocean sounds and breeze are hard to beat though.
I’m from Sydney, Australia. Team beach for sure. Is it weird I hear Anne Marie’s voice in my head as I type “for sure”?
Precede it with "No, yeah" and you're golden.
Have you heard of the great lakes? They are like inland freshwater seas. Real beaches, no sharks
As a Michigan girl, I’m a lake girl.
Lived in Florida and South Carolina, as well as Ohio and Michigan. This song is TRUTH! Love 'em both. Glad I stumbled upon "y'all" :) --I'll be back for more!
Well im unexpectedly early to this and I haven’t watched one of these in a while 😂
Im team lake over beach
I like the sand at beaches but then it gets everywhere and im no big fan on waves or go to far out from shore but lakes are a blast and so calm
Same (being surprisingly early)
Both pleeeeeease!
Team beach and lake
I'm kinda team neither... 😰
As one who spent a week on a lake EVERY summer growing up.. I'm totally team beach. The ocean wins every time! Way more peaceful. Maybe I'd feel different if I was more into activities but I doubt it.
