Cruise Ports Revealed | Transatlantic from Portugal to Brazil

We took an 18-day transatlantic cruise with NCL from Lisbon, Portugal all the way to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Star we visited ports across Portugal, Spain, Cape Verde, and Brazil. Some ports were awesome, some were not. We share our highs and lows, to give you a realistic idea of what to expect when you visit these ports and cities.
We started in Lisbon, exploring the Alfama neighborhood, before setting sail to our first port, Funchal in Madeira. We loved that port! We enjoyed the stunning views of the coast from a cable car and visit the beautiful palace gardens atop the hillside city.
Next, we docked at the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife in Spain, experiencing the beachy vibes and vibrant local life. We then crossed continents and explored Praia and Porto Grande in Cape Verde, before finally reaching the vibrant cities of Recife, Salvador, Buzios, and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
