I legit did the same comparison! Fearful Harmony is like a panic attack and personified fear is legit the PS1 just giving up and fainting on you due to the overwhelming unknown data processing.
The only time I intentionally put a printer cd into a playstation console was to trigger the ps2 rsod The first time I saw the ps2 rsod it scared the sh-t outta me, and it was such a random thing The second time was when I put the printer cd in my ps2, that time was different though cause I was intentionally trying to trigger the rsod
personified fear causes the screen to blackout only when the ps1 starts up. when occurs on the menu, it just glitches out and stuck on the menu screen until the ps1 resets by the user.
There's also the fact that that sounds during startup are three or four smaller data sounds that are sped up and slow down through onboard synthesizer so that it takes up much less data than just a recording of the sound that we know. So when it's trying to load a game disc and the synthesizer puts in the sound effects for the startup and then tries to transition into the game disc detection sound it doesn't detect a proper disc and so it drags on as you put it. It's not actually the disc causing the system to slow but the system failing to continue synthesizing due to its programming
Sony didn’t make those sounds. It’s actually the console’s bios being screwed up to some of those that don’t know. But Sony later fixed that on the slim models of the console.
I triggered Personified Fear on my slim PS1 for putting a PS2 CD game on the drive (Madden 2002). Took about 9 minutes to trigger (about the same as Fat PS1), but it did
This is what happens when you put an unreadable disc in the Solar Sun console. It can't understand what the heck it's reading and violently crashes and turns the data to sound, which is what you can call annoying. The console makes alot of noise attempting to make sense of what it's reading. If successful, the console will attempt to play the game until it crashes. If unsuccessful, the console will --FORCE_RESTART and automatically reject the disc and fling it away. Also has a cool startup screen and sound.
Fearful harmony is just someone writing a page from bottom to top and Personified fear is just another someone forgetting what to do and then quickly remember and try to finish it
Personified fear is when the PS can't find anything on the disk it can read as a game or audio file and so it freaks out and plays everything that exists in memory at that time, which is usually the "whoosh" that is part of the startup plus a chime sound effect. After the sounds finish the console crashes, but not right away. Fearful harmony is when the PS tries to keep reading the disk over and over again, even if it doesn't recognize anything. This causes the BIOS data that currently exists in memory to corrupt, and the corrupted BIOS will keep looping different parts of the startup for a few minutes and then crashes once it finishes reading the disk. Since the BIOS that exists in memory is corrupted, BIOS data stored in the hard drive is unaffected, so the console basically returns back to normal once it reboots.
actually, my modchipped playstation, can recognize audio cds and _game discs (this includes every other disc)_ at startup just fine. so when I put an audio cd, it doesn't try to boot it up like a game disc, it goes to the CD player and plays the audio cd. I have no idea how the modchip recognizes the 2 different discs, it probably has to do something with the kind of modchip and/or the console (I have a scph-7502)
This video has some inaccuracies I've learned about over time , I plan to make a revised version someday but for now , read the comments to see what I got wrong
i think that there are special modchips and yours lets your playstation know either "HEY! This is an official game disc. LOAD IT UP!!" or "HEY! This is a CD. READY THE MUSIC!"
@@myragaarder2338 perhaps although if that's the case, why wouldn't they reject foreign discs so there's no fearful harmonies, personified fears and forbidden images? maybe because they only check to see if the disc is an audio disc and if it's anything else (game or foreign disc), it'll treat it like a game
What's surprising to me is that if these audio errors really do come from BIOS failures, and are not scripted, that they play with such consistency. You would assume that different BIOS failure triggers could cause variations in the audio (similarly to the "Forbidden Image" error which has a few variants).
I believe however that the Playstation 1 will usually force itself to try read data when Hot Swapping. Reason being, if you simply entered a foreign disc it would ask you to Enter a Playstation disc. I suppose this would cause less worry in people lol
Fearful harmony isn't the intro sound. It's the original sound sample used to make the intro sound (no idea how the hell that works) at various speeds in fact you can hear a form of it after the "woosh" in the intro. Although it is massively slowed down.
