Barry is getting a Kai Wa'a Vega Surfski! Why buy a surfski he's never paddled, and why not a Flex?

Simply being a newer design is going add a lot to the handling and general feel I guess over the old V10. Boat designs have changed a lot over last few years to make them more user friendly. Even the current V10 is nothing like the difficult beast that the gen 1 is. I bet you will love it.

Good point. Any new boat is going to come with it’s own positives and excitement. I bought the 1st Gen V10 because it was at a good price. I went to the Vega because I already had the Kai Wa’a Ares OC1. I knew the Vega was going to be a great boat because it was designed after the Ares’ hull. I have paddled the Vega 4 times now. Two of those in downwind bumps and I love it. It surfs the bumps really really well.
I know there are other great skis out there but I think the Ozone construction is pretty amazing.

I love revisiting these clips after I learn more. Kinda wants me to try the Vega and keep 2 surf skis like this gentlemen

We think it's fun, too, Jody, as we learn more and more. It's fun, and humbling, to go back and look at our journey

First, let me say how thankful I am for Rod and Greg. Paddling really brings wonderful friendships. Thank you Jeff of Paddle Dynamics for delivering the Vega to North Carolina. Now for some thoughts about my new Vega!
So stoked on the Vega Surfski! I have paddled it 3 times to date. One of those was a proper downwind, SW 18-20 mph, really fun bumps for approximately 8 miles. It surfs like the Ares without an ama! Sooo good. I fell out just one time at the end of the run. I was able to remount the Vega on my first attempt no problem. I attribute the fall to a combination of fatigue, the foot plate had slipped forward a bit, and the fact that I let the paddle go way too far back on that particular stroke.
The Vega is more stable than the 1st Gen V10 that I have been paddling. The Vega surfs the bumps a little higher up on the face of the bump/wave compared to the other ski. The Vega is super light. I have the pro model which is about 18 lbs. This makes it easier to accelerate to catch bumps and change directions.
The only downside to an 18 lb boat is you have to ask your buddy to hold onto it in windy conditions when you need to run back to the car. Overall, I am so glad I purchased the Vega. My first downwind run in it was awesome and downwinding will only get better as I get the footplate dialed in and I become more comfortable with my leg drive at higher speeds. Kai Bartlett has nailed the hull design for the Vega Surfski and the Ares OC1. I am enjoying both very much.
