  • I'm going for another long walk in Ireland. This is the first day where I ended up solo wild camping at the top of Corn Hill in Longford. Also known as Cairn Hill, this is the highest point in the county. It was my first time in ages to go out like this so it almost felt like starting all over again!

    Yay! A new Ireland walk! I can live vicariously through you for a few weeks :) . Irish accents are lovely, btw. If I keep listening to you and my Father Ted dvd's I reckon I'll be able to imitate an Irish accent by the time I eventually go over there ;) ( jk. But also I really do think I'd like an Irish accent. Better than an Aussie one, that's for sure!). Loved the Hawthorn tree! Very special. Hope you get your wishes. Enjoy your travels!

    • @DerekCullenOutdoors
      @DerekCullenOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      Haha how good is your Irish accent? Thanks for being here because it’s great to be able to share the experience. I had actually thought about visiting father teds house later in the summer btw 👍

      @@DerekCullenOutdoors Oh, my Irish accent is fantastic ( jk! haha) . At the moment I'm pretty good at imitating Dougal ( "They've got a spider baby!" ) and Mrs. Doyle when she says things like: "And what do *you* say to a cup, Father?" and "Ah, go ahn. Go ahn, go ahn, go ahn, go ahn, go ahn, GO AHN!". I realise it's difficult to assess how Irish I sound through the medium of typed wordsies, but just imagine in your head how brilliant I sound! ( it will detract from how actually terrible I am at doing an Irish accent :) ).
      The parochial house? Awesome! It surely must be a bit of a landmark by now. Hopefully Father Jack won't be in!

    I know that sensation well! Even after the anticipation of the wait for an "adventure" (even if that's just a day's hiking), when the time finally comes to start, I always feel that anxious pang to turn around and go home. I'm (almost) always glad when I come to the end of the journey though for having seen it through, even if I then feel melancholy that the adventure is over!

    Fair play for pushing yourself out that door. It's not always easy to do but hopefully its worth it when you do. Wild camping is a bit of a lucky dip sometimes. My experiences have been good 98% of the time however that 2% makes you wary and I'd do exactly what you did in checking before entering an area to camp that no-one has seen me.
