  • I walk to the highest pub in Ireland Johnnie Fox’s after a night of wild camping in the mountains. Johnnie Fox's pub is known as the highest pub in Ireland because that is what the sign says outside haha. Honestly, I think there may be one higher elsewhere in the country. After a hearty meal, I leave Johnnie Fox’s pub and head toward Knockree and up toward Djouce Mountain in the Wicklow Mountains.

A place I’m very familiar with. Among the Wicklow hills. Wicklow has it all. So beautiful 😉❤️

I recently trekked to the highest Irish pub in the world at 3,450m above sea level. It is at Namche Bazaar in Nepal. It takes 2 days of trekking to reach, en route to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). Highly recommended to experience this trail!

You're so brave, Derek. Thank you for taking us on another journey with you.
Hands down, without question, the best trip of my life will always be the 27 days I spent in Ireland.
So, I loved hearing you say all of this brings out your love of the Irish culture which may lay dormant sometimes.
And I can also relate to those pangs we feel sometimes when we see friends/family gathered together, but we're walking alone. Stay the course! We're both right where we're meant to be for this chapter of life! Glad you're back!

Best place on the planet. When she first saw the island through the plane's window, my wife said "We're home!" I cried at the airport when we left.

Zip lock food bags can be bought with the microwave symbol on them. Put into the bag oats etc. then add hot water into the bag. East from the bag. Wash bag when you get to town. Freeze dried fruits is the best for weight.

So beautiful. I love Glencree & Knockcree. I used to do scout training weekends there & the deer are everywhere. Such striking landscape too. You'll have to drop in to the biker bar The Blue Light some time.
Ah, so nice of that guy adding you into the pot, angel is right. I know what you mean, we always want what's on the other side. Although a large group around a campfire is my favorite place. Love the music too Derek. Your dormant Celtic soul is reawakening.

Great video, Derek! I had the pleasure of visiting Dublin at the start of the Summer; just for a couple of days and primarily to see a concert at Malahide Castle - my first visit to Ireland. I'd love to spend more time there, especially in the countryside - the people and the place are just so lovely.

I want to do it myself. I've watched a ton of videos on it, and what people say is the biggest challenge- or in my mind, the biggest joy- is how self-reliant one must be. There are so few stores, one must pack extra food and burner gas. One must have a way to charge electronics, such as solar panels or a Water Lily. One has to pack a raincoat AND sunscreen as how often the weather changes. It looks amazing, and I really hope I get to walk it sometime soon. 😀

Whats the main difference between the start of a hike and the middle or the end. Which is better. Does it take a while to relax into it. Or does your energy dwindle. Or both. Is there a sweet spot where the levels peak. Does it change mentally. Its hard to imagine a long hike. Initial excitement. Or time to sort mind and body? Does anxiety fade or grow?
