- The Blessed Virgin Mary revealed at the apparitions of Fatima, that a young girl who recently died, would be in purgatory until the end of time.
The Catholic Church has approved the Fatima apparitions. On May 13, 1917, during the first apparition to the three shepherd children, the eldest visionary, Lucia dos Santos, asked the Blessed Mother about two of her friends who had died. The Blessed Virgin said that one was in heaven, but the other one, Amelia, would be in Purgatory until the end of the world.
Years Later, Sr. Lucia reflected on this writing, “This may seem a lot to us, but the mercy of God is always great. By our sins we have gravely offended Him and have deserved loss of heaven! In spite of this, he forgives us and grants us time to pay for them and, by means of reparation and purification, to be saved.”

We have an obligation pray for the holy souls in purgatory, and it’s simple to do! In the Yasinski household, after our traditional grace, we say add, “May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
The suffering souls in purgatory are real. St Faustina wrote, “I saw my guardian angel, who ordered me to follow him. In a moment I was in a misty place full of fire in which there was a great crowd of suffering souls. They were praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid. The flames, which were burning them, did not touch me at all. My guardian angel did not leave me for an instant. I asked these souls what their greatest suffering was. They answered me in one voice that their greatest torment was longing for God.”
St Alphonsus encourages us to pray for souls have you died saying, “By assisting them we shall not only give great pleasure to God, but will acquire also great merit for ourselves. And, in return for our suffrages, these blessed souls will not neglect to obtain for us many graces from God, but particularly the grace of eternal life. I hold for certain that a soul delivered from Purgatory by the suffrages of a Christian, when she enters paradise, will not fail to say to God: ‘Lord, do not suffer to be lost that person who has liberated me from the prison of Purgatory, and has brought me to the enjoyment of Thy glory sooner than I have deserved.’”

great video but one important correction, Maria das Neves (in Heaven) and Amelia were NOT children, they were teenagers. Amelia was between 18 and 20...so not old but NOT a child.

My boyfriend/fiancé passed away on August 16th 💔😢💔
About a week after he passed, I kept waking up at 3am for about a week straight. The thought of purgatory somehow popped up in my head. I began to pray for his soul. I pray for him everyday now. I’ve been praying the divine chaplet of mercy, and rosary on his behalf. This loss has been a nightmare for me and I am truly heartbroken 💔 The only thing that brings me peace is believing he will one day be with our Lord. ❤️

Nice to hear that you are praying for your loved ones. Please offer masses for him. Masses are the greatest prayer. You can also offer a Gregorian Mass for his soul.
The dead are "Sleeping " until Resurrection . Then Jesus will Resurrect the Dead who died in Him and will take the Believers with Him . The Sinful will parish . There is No Hell or Purgatory ! How absurd ! God who is a Justful but loving God would Never take pleasure in torchering souls . Be careful what you Believe !

Don't ever think your sins are greater than His mercy, that would be pride, then despair, but do what you can to sooth the Heart of Jesus. Confession, Holy Communion, prayer, penances little and big.

I read a little bit more about her. I believe she was a teenage because she died while performing a mortal sin. Though what I read didn't say the sin, I got the impression it was a sin of impurity. I prayer for her every day when I say St Gertrude's prayer that she got from Jesus.

Upon listening to that quote from St. Alphonsus at the end of the video, helped me realize that purgatory is like a spiritual prison, and if we are in prison, the first thing on our mind is we want out. Thus, with the help of our prayers and offering Mass, these people can be released.
Just imagine being in prison in this world, and how unpleasant it can be, and wanting to be released, so how much more for those in purgatory longing to be with God. Yikes! God, have mercy.

I agree! It’s not kind to a soul to assume their in Heaven because then we don’t pray. I’ve heard we should pray for a soul every day for a year after they die. We can make our indulgences on their behalf and offer many Masses.

People don’t even want to say “died” anymore..Everyone says “passed” or “passed away.” Remember when we used to say “Christ has died…” When I die, I want people to say “she died.” Also, Catholic funerals are now often called “celebrations of life.” Good heavens!

Jesus would say they were asleep, like his friend, one of the 12 said he would wake up until Jesus plainly said he is Dead. Jesus called his friend back to life.
I agree. ‘Passing away’ or ‘celebration of life’ seems to lessen the loss felt by those who feel like part of them has died, as well. Not to mention the reality of Death, judgement, heaven and hell. the word hell means Hades or Sheol, the collective abode of the dead, divided into Paradise or Abraham's Bosom--the state of God-fearing souls--and Gehenna, the state of ungodly souls. You can perform the necessary steps for a plenary indulgence for a loved one in purgatory. I offered that for my father.
St. Therese said: "You do not have enough trust. You have too much fear before the good God. I can assure you that He is grieved over this. You should not fear Purgatory because of the suffering there, but should instead ask that you not deserve to go there in order to please God, Who so reluctantly imposes this punishment. As soon as you try to please Him in everything and have an unshakable trust He purifies you every moment in His love and He lets no sin remain. And then you can be sure that you will not have to go to Purgatory."

Purgatory is taught by Jesus in several places in the Bible. For instance Luke12 v41-48. 4 servants are judged. One is saved, one is lost and the other two suffer varying degrees of punishment. Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. The two servants in Purgatory are saved but must be prepared for Heaven. During their life they served the master but not as well as they should have. Please pray for deceased loved ones who may need help to reach Heaven. Blessings

@@sandrajacobs7135 When the Bible speaks of the dead we must distinguish between deceased and the dead in sin ie the souls in Hell. They are truly dead with no true life or love within them. Throughout Christian history the deceased are always prayed for. Why did this practice cease after the Reformation? Catholics, Orthodox and Jews all pray for deceased loved ones. Ofcourse it is pointless to pray for lost souls but we help the souls who are in Purgatory. Jesus taught Purgatory in several places but, since Scripture is subject to personal interpretation, many reject this teaching. I agree it is idolatry to pray to anyone except God. But we can ask others to pray for our intentions. This includes angels and saints. We can join a vast throng here on earth and those in Heaven as we all pray to God. When l invoke the prayers of Mary l am asking her to influence her Son on my behalf. Behold your Mother are the words of Jesus to John from the Cross. Since we are all brothers and sisters in Christ she is our mother also. Mothers love and pray for their children. But all prayer is directed eventually to God. Ken, I would say that we all wish that our loved ones would go straight to heaven, but honestly know that our prayers are needed for them. When people say that someone is in a better place, certainly purgatory IS a better place. As long as we live on this earth, in exile, there is always the chance that we will do something worthy of losing our soul. The souls in purgatory know without a shadow of a doubt that they will be in heaven one day. It’s absolutely a wonderful Mercy of our beloved Father in heaven. Jesus appeared to Saint Gertrude and promised her every time this prayer is said a 1,000 souls will be released from Purgatory. We call it “ The Saint Gertrude Prayer.” It is a beautiful prayer. Another prayer we can say is for us. A nun died and later appeared to her mother superior. She said 30,000 souls died and her and another went straight to heaven, three went to Purgatory, and she watched the rest fall into Hell. @@gragall78 - the reason Jesus said that was because the thief believed in him he had shown faith despite the false convictions thrown at him...Now, to the point about purgatory. Ofcourse it wasn't mentioned in the Bible. God wants us to be faithful and to obey his teachings...not lukewarm. If we disobey him we deserved hell no doubt about it...but if he sees a tiny bit of something that we have done good when we're here on earth....then we're sent to purgatory to cleans our soul. The souls in hell and purgatory both suffer the same way. The only difference is, in purgatory they longed for God, while in hell they despise God. BTW God doesn't send us to hell...it our own wrong doing that send us to hell... God is Pure and Just....KARMA still exist on the other side....

Yes, it is true. I always pray for the poor souls in purgatory. When I was a child, after praying the holy rosary, I pray that God will open the gate of heaven for them. One day, I dreamt of my grandmother and other poor souls living in our house. My grandmother thanked me because I particularly pray for her. According to her, she will now go to heaven because of my prayers. She said that she will pray for me and guide me in heaven. Then, she hugged me and a very bright light surrounds her and she went up and disappeared. I believe she is now in heaven. From then on, I always pray for the souls of my dead relatives, friends, and all the poor souls in purgatory. As a Catholic, it is the least I can do for them. I pray that through our prayers we can save many souls.
I believe that my mother who passed away is in God's hand and Jesus has redeemed them..

I think Our Lady gave us that name so we could pray for her. I'd like everyone to say her name. It's possible we can help her. Right?

I could be wrong and maybe Amelia never saw her deeds as sins and didnt ask for mercy before she died? I just dont know nor does anyone but God. In Luke 12:42-48
Here Christ is showing us how he will reward and punish us accordingly to our Understanding of his teachings and how we adhere, or do not adhere to his teachings.
In verse 42 to 44 Christ talks about the faithful servant who knows his teachings and lives his life accordingly. His judgment here is a reward ( Heaven)
In verse 45 to 46 he talks about the servant who understands his teachings but beats his fellow servants and does not obey his teachings. The judgment is a punishment where he is cut in to pieces and placed with the unbelievers. ( In Hell)
Now this is where it gets very interesting. If the only punishment is hell then there should be no other punishments, but there is and this is where purgatory comes in to play.
In verse 47 he talks about the servant who knows his teachings but does not adhere to them. He is punished severely.
In verse 48 he talks about the servant who doesn't know his teaching and who unknowingly goes against them and is punished lightly.
If there is no purgatory where is Jesus going to execute the latter two punishments.
If you can't give an explanation different to Purgatory then you must accept Christ's teachings.

Here is a footnote from the NAB (catholic translation) "My master is delayed in coming: this statement indicates that early Christian expectations for the imminent return of Jesus had undergone some modification. Luke cautions his readers against counting on such a delay and acting irresponsibly. Cf. the similar warning in Mt 24:48."
@@Justas399 anyone who goes against his teachings are irresponsible, and he is showing us how he will reward and punish, 1 reward, 3 punishments. The last two shows us how merciful Christ is. The person who unknowingly goes against his teachings will be lightly punished compared to the person who knowingly does wrong.

The most powerful thing you can do is to have a mass said for your dearly departed family and friends. A nice little project would be to make a list of all your known relatives who have passed away and arrange to have a mass said for each of them. Make sure to schedule the masses at a time that you can personally attend each one of them. Most churches allow for up to two people for whom the mass can be dedicated, so you might be able to get 2 relatives included for each mass if both slots are open. The other thing that can be done is to pray the Divine Mercy chaplet for each relative or friend. You can also pray for all souls in purgatory or you can ask God to help the one soul who is most in need of His Grace or a visit from The Morning Star (The Virgin Mary). The Divine Mercy chaplet can be said at any time, but is better said at 3:00 pm, even better on Friday at 3:00 pm, and best at 3:00 pm on Good Friday. The Rosary is a powerful instrument of protection and salvation. The traditional (4 mystery) Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows are all great instruments for connecting closely with God and our Advocate The Virgin Mary. @Barrett Carroll Curtis There are a lot of things that we do in the Catholic Church that are not explicitly mentioned in biblical texts. Divine Mercy Sunday is not in the biblical text, yet we still celebrate it every Sunday after Easter Sunday.

My intention was merely to suggest some ways that we might help our dearly departed through prayers and mass intentions. AMEN! I've been praying for the souls in Purgatory for years. I understand that they can't pray for themselves so it's up to us who are still living to do so. I did not know that once released from Purgatory and into Heaven that they in turn will pray for us and ask that grace be given to us. What a wonderful thing to know! With regards to funerals, I always mention that their souls would be in a better place or say Heaven, since I am not one to judge and are optimistic for everyone who has passed on. I know some will go to Heaven and some to Purgatory. It's just easier and much more optimistic to someone who is grieving to say..."they're in Heaven now". Blessings!

The traditional Latin Mass is much clearer about the need of praying and offering suffrages for the soul of the deceased than is the New Order. It is not ambiguous. I am requesting the traditional Liturgy be used for my funeral Mass when God calls me from this life to the particular judgement.

My kids & husband have all been told to just assume that I am in purgatory and constantly pray for me. I want Masses. My priest said to put money aside in our Will with directions to have Mass celebrated for our souls. He also said to make sure we are buried in consecrated ground & to have a burial Mass. How do you pray for a specific soul, a loved one,? do you just mention their name before the prayers and just ask the Lord?
Elizabeth, as for me, I mention their name before I commence my Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Rosary or my prayers in general. I at times I pray in general for all the souls in purgatory, specially those most in need of His mercy.
Contact your parish and ask to have a Mass offered for their soul. I request Masses every year for deceased loved ones for a small donation.

Pat, heaven and hell are mentioned in the Bible on multiple occasions. Purgatory never appears once. Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.

@@mpat100 The problem being Pat that the earliest saints never mentioned it. By earliest l mean the disciples, Luke and Paul who wrote the New Testament. It took until the 4th century for the NT canon to be decided, so at that point Purgatory didn't exist.
This reflects upon what I have been trying to do for many years ---- begging Our Lord Jesus Christ to have mercy everyday the names of the departed, faithful or not. How would I know what happened to the souls of my loved ones or friends who have passed before me? I cannot know. Therefore, I pray for them by name everyday.

So true Ken...I really hate it when they refure to the deceased as a in Angel in Heaven. We really don't know their fate, I know they are not an Angel. We hope a Saint in Heaven! As I refect on my life, I know I cause great suffering to my Lord and Savior when I lived in sin! I really regret sinning. I have amended my life. I love the real truth u dare to say . I’ve looked for friends I could call family like you for 20 years . This reality is what I need to hear but it makes me cry . I’ve done horrible things , I’d a little girl had to be there so long, I’m so sad . Thank you Ken for an excellent summary of what EVERY Catholic should know. I was always taught to pray for the holy souls in Purgatory especially (1) for those souls who do not have anyone on earth to pray for them; (2) For the holy souls in Purgatory who require one last prayer or one Holy Mass offered for them to gain the release from their suffering. It angers me that the modernists just assume that everyone goes straight to heaven. When my late Sister passed away; my thoroughly modern brother - in - law, and his thoroughly modern family berated me when I corrected them for saying that my sister was now in heaven. When I pointed out to them that as much as I would like to think they were right; our faith teaches us that unless we were saints, that a direct fare to heaven was impossible. I pointed out that to presume that one would go directly to heaven or to presume that they are saved immediately just because they believed in Our Lord was a sin against the Holy Ghost, and this is why we wear black when bereaved as we do not know where the soul has gone. Only God knows. It is up top God to judge us for our sins past and present, and based on the Almighty's assessment; our time in Purgatory or hell (if we have warranted it) will be decided, and this is why we must pray ceaselessly for our departed love ones and indeed for all souls who have passed away. I have also included in my daily Rosary, a request of Our Lord to have mercy on the souls of sinners and especially on the poor souls who will pass away in the next 24 hours. I ask Our Saviour to please grant such souls HIS Divine Grace to seek HIS mercy and forgiveness; even a death bed confession.. Thank you.

Thank God for the explaination...I was taken back when I read your title. Every morning I say my rosary and followed by other prayers and one of them is the one decade of St. Faustinas prayer for the souls in purgatory...I just hope and pray they dont be there until the end of time.
Purgatory doesn’t exist, Jesus paid it all. We don’t need to add anything to Jesus ´work on the cross to be saved.Glory and praise to the lamb of God.
