  • Peter Bernstein recently did a Monk cd, with Monk's Mood on it. This is from a tour they did in 2006 with Jeff & Larry. And dig Brad's crazy introduction, we knew he had this Goethe thing going, but this is hilarious!

Wonderful! Isn't the world just lovely? To be able to experience such joy and pleasure is such a privilege. Music like this makes you wonder what all the fuss is about in the rest of the world's activities. Love ya, guys!

Eleven years later, the fuss does its best but the notes are just above water.
      as for the world's loveliness..?
it's away on business. won't be much longer me hope...

This would be the perfect full-time group. With guitar and piano with the level of music manship that these guys are on it's nice that during a performance that you can give each one a rest so it's just guitar or just piano. And the bass player and the drummer are definitely on the same level as Peter and Brad.

Peter and Brad complement each other so well. Brad's style is cerebral, polyphonic and imbued with a compositional perspective whereas Peter's style builds itself on lyricism and classic jazz language.

I found Brad's style was a little too angular juxtaposed with Peter's. I think it's partially the harsh brightness of that piano against the soft warmth of that beautiful old guitar.

@@MrDaraghkinch may also be a mix issue, it's very bright and compressed. Even the drums seem to clash with the rest of the instruments on other songs from that recording, which I bet wasn't happening live.

you really couldn't ask for more with this could you? This is marvelous. Monk could have written the score to life mabey he did.

Lovely guitar playing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. Monk's notes on the piano is like a portal going back to the man.

I think Peter sleeps with his guitar in bed. It is a Zeidler that must be worth the price of a large car! Shows what a tone aficionado he is if he doesn't tour with a regular guitar. Beautiful playing and great camera work with close-ups of the Zeidler.

Nice to hear someone mention the guitar. It seems guitar players spend the first ten years trying to get enough money to get a guitar that you don't have to worry about imperfections on your instrument. I'm 65 and I have a Epiphone emperor regent which is not a bad guitar if you can deal with tuning peg imperfections and constant fluctuations on the action. Thank God for the adjustable Bridges and truss rod. Everyone knows you have to be a certain kind of crazy to make guitar your instrument but Peter shows us that it's worth it when you can play the tunes and put your own 100% creative input Into it.. especially when you do it for 4,5, even 6 hours every day.

Peter Bernstein is taking a conservative style and making it a BEAR of a concept! A true modern jazz master mind.

@waraukaeru Have you hear is "Monk" tribute album with his trio? It's easily one of my favorite albums, right next to the original Michael Brecker album.

Totally agree. near Mehldau, better another genius, like Barney Kessel, or better Stanley Jordan... I don't know Brecker at all (but I love Mehldau), and I think he don't deserve the guitar he has!
