Are any of these expensive devices better than loops?

Some devices are better than others but hard to say if better than Loops. If you use loops and can perform all the effects you wish to perform with them then all is great. Some thread routines require a single static line which is where thread or spider pen x comes into play. For me Spider Pen x is fantastic because if it breaks it is a quick reset and pen is smooth and discreet. It all depends on the effects you wish to perform :)

Well, I am adding to my last comment, bought this last week from MagicWorld and have performed at 5 gigs and this tool is fantastic. The haunted deck, PK touch and knocking over an object without touching!!! have left the audience stunned. Have been using many forms of IT over the decade and found them to be knacky but not this Spider pen X.

Would you use it for Rising Card ? Or is there too mouch tension on the thread when you put the Card back into the Deck

For haunted deck it is no problem but for rising card I would use a thicker thread or another system.
