  • After numerous failed attempts at bleeding our brakes, we decided to dump the ABS unit. It worked!
    The T we used - www.amazon.com/dp/B07DT7CHW3?...
    The union for the rear lines - www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6ZWCAR?...
    This is not a recommendation to do this to yours, it is simply a solution we arrived at to solve a problem. If you do this, I would encourage you to study and learn threshhold braking.
    Make sure your lines begin threading easily for as many turns as you can get before tightening them to avoid cross threading.
    The string trimmer line we used was .080" in diameter and simply what we had on hand in the shed. It seemed to work well for the intended purpose.

    Fantastic. I was hoping it was this simple. I'll be doing the same thing but I'll clean up the tubing a bit to make space for an air compressor.

    I've been having the same brake problem you were having on your 99! Thank you for this great video!! I have already ordered the fittings for my 98 4Runner! I've always wondered in the back of my mind if I could delete my ABS and then I found your video. Thank you and Merry Christmas!!!

    did you lose your speedometer function? cruise control? unplugging those connectors does more that just turn on the abs light i think.

      The only thing that happened was the ABS light stayed on which was expected.

    Hey there. Have you tried making an emergency stop, to see if the rear locks up and you need a proportioning valve? Did you just leave all abs wheel sensors in, and does your speedo/odo still work? Thanks

      Brakes function properly and this model year did not have a proportioning valve. Left all sensors in place and speedo works same as before. ABS light will stay on though.

    I enjoyed watching, did you have any proportional valve or you went straight from the MC to that T and rear?

    • @kauffmansgarage
      @kauffmansgarage  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! As I understand it, the proportioning is handled by the master cylinder on this model and there is no proportioning valve. This does not have the load sensing rear which would have had a proportioning valve operated by a rod connected to the suspension.

    To dispel any further confusion, use the labels of drivers front, passenger front.....NOT left and right because that's completely dependent on which way the direction the is standing. After ALL THAT, you never said whether or not you fixed the soft pedal....wtf???

    • @kauffmansgarage
      @kauffmansgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      Left or right is as if you’re sitting in the drivers seat. Standard reference in the automotive world but I see your point. Yes, this fixed the soft pedal.

      @@kauffmansgarage Yes, I understand standards, I spent 10 years in the industry as a service writer/ service manager, but there are many, many people out here that have zero experience in the industry and have no idea what that standard is....EVERYONE know drivers' side, passenger side. Glad it fixed your issue.

      Except it's not only people from America watching. Left and right is just common sense that it's from the perspective of sitting in the car and considering that's universal whether it's a right or left hand drive, it is way more logical than your opinion

    I think I would rather add a ABS disable switch. There is no rear proportioner on these vehicles, so for the majority of driving ABS is a good idea… in this case it is an easier process…
