Some unexpected harmonies, not all of which are harmonic. As others have said, it’s really tough to get levels in a set-up like this. Still wonderful to hear yet more versions.
It's live on the Radio with one mic like it was in done in the 50s and 60s, that's what they were all about...keeping it simple and organic cos they developed a concept for their sound and stuck to it. They did great and it still sounds "alive".
This is so brilliant to hear...totally effortless and beautiful, the music just flows out of them, it's so pure. Doledrum sounds great as well here, a bit slower, really grooves so good. Find it interesting that Lee introduces 'I Can't Sleep' as 'Big Black Car'…must have been changed by the record company when the album came out...him calling it 'Big Black Car' changes the way I think about that song, like 'Big Yellow Taxi' on acid...makes it feel even darker, raises the stakes, you know what I mean?
doledrum was also sung don't go down to London originally, probably alluding to lee's time spent working in London in the early 80's with his dad, it gives an insight into how long lee sat on those songs, mike badger remembers hearing an embryonic version of there she goes in 1986!
The nearness of mic or volume levels are unusual I reason. Better or worse, difficult to say. Guess if there's already a good studio recording then that's one in the bag so adifferent angle live can add to the repertoire, variety.
I mean, i have always known how class that LA's are, but sometimes you forget like, and that's when recordings like this remind you! Brilliant !!
The La,s sure could La your Soul to a place that feels Good ! LongLive the La,s !
Three singing harmonies, beautiful! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That was awesome! You can really hear how good Lee's voice is.

Lee Mavers wouldn't let them use another mike so they could fix it. It's a shame!

before they were signed it was mainly called I can't sleep but lee would occasionally call it big black car

beautiful. but haunting that I'm listening to a recording more than 30 years ago.. It's just freaky to think about, and lonely.
Lee said second album should be out soon.... stay tuned...
Wait, what ? For real ?

Variety being the spice of life, of which life the La's have in buckets.
Nah it's not his fault, it would've been good if the vocal levels had been adjusted.
Nowt wrong with johns vocals, the host said they were all crowded around one mic and they probably just hadn't thought about who was sat where
@@johnharvey4448 not much variety in songs or albums tho.
