PSO2 NGS lore theories: The Halpha/Algol "Parallel"?

  • Shout-out to Korozenn for this idea!
The enigmatic world of PSO2NGS is still chock full of mysteries! What if the four main continents of Halpha are representations of the planets from the original Phantasy Star games released in the 80s and 90s?
I know we have quite a few people who were introduced to the series thanks to PSO2 in recent years. As you may already know, Phantasy Star is a very old IP. About as old as Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, believe it or not.
So why don’t we take a look at this?

The fact that New Genesis is an extension of Pso2 I think is not just a convenience for Sega, but also a plot device for the story. The simulation theory makes the most sense to me, because it's rather convenient that nothing is really explained to us, there isn't a lot of history or lore, and the civilization of Arks is strangely lacking in terms of exploration considering their level of power. (Surrounded on all sides by a boundless ocean, not able to explore space) It would also be really convenient for the characters that they lose their memory once they crash land on this planet. This game also takes place 1000 years after Pso2 (this is definitely intentional) Profound darkness is probably back in some way, but we don't really have a lot to go on so it's hard to speculate. Isekai is super popular right now so it wouldn't surprise me if this was inspired by those works. They said they wanted to develop the story more in Kvaris so I hope we get a little closer to finding some answers.

0:51 The name Algol comes from the Arabic “Ra's-al-Ghul", which means "The Demon's Head." Ra's-al-Ghul is actually where the names "Ragol" came from.
It's also the name of a prominent Batman Villain whose Lazarus pit revived Jason Todd (the Robin killed by Joker) before he became Red Hood and grandfather of Batman's biological illegitimate son, Damien.

I can't take credit for that one, as I think that was a name used in the game files. I think most of the assets for that region have been in the game for a while.

I would personally opt for a the "world ship" theory but also with a side of the so called "Simulation" theory.
Because when you look at the landscape, you'll notice that many land formations have some sort of tech contraption with PCB-like pattern on them, this could very well be the power conduits of the ship, which also allows it to maintain the very specific climate for each regions.
as for the giant tower above Halphia Lake, it could very well be the cockpit of the world ship that so happened to be also overseeing the progress of new Arks Operatives in the making.
After all, this whole world ship concept isn't unknown to Phantasy Star, in fact it was the staple of one of the games back on Genesis
and also, as you more than likely noticed, the different servers are still labelled as "Ships", and not "Worlds", So I dunno about you, but I very much doubt SEGA would still call them ships if we were not somewhat still connected to one, but this time, instead of being giant city fleets like it was in PSO2, they are planet-like motherships
And then comes the "Simulation" part, those world ships are more than likely meant to serve as Complex Training Facilities, with the cocoons and Towers being the different "Tests" you must pass in order to become an Arks Op, it would also explain why you are literally being graded at the end of them and why SP's are gained through those rather than levels, the higher ups are literally grading your performance after each tests.
So yeah, that's my take on the matter, it just makes too much sense to me personally, but I guess we'll know sooner rather than later.

I've always wondered why no one has mentioned traveling the sea, which, along with the artificial nature of the land, makes me think this is some sort of simulation. I think the fact that Dark Falz was recording data and sending it to something points heavily to it. My idea is that the protagonist from base was cryogenically stored in case they're needed again. With all the other meteorn around, it could be their pod was forgotten, and whoever made the simulation is just cycling through candidates.

I've been noticing things like this but I don't have the following that you have. Thanks for putting things like this out there. I like giving newer players the opportunity to learn about lore from the older games and how it ties in to the newer titles.

When I first saw Halpha. It reminded me of Allisa 3 that was trapped in Motivia's orbit. Or was it one of the moons? One of the planet like ships that was set to escape the Algo system when Palma exploded? I forgot it has been a long time.. And the Sun on Halpha is really tiny. It obits Halpha which Halpha itself orbits that big moon/planet in the sky. I will die in this hill.

I _just_ got into this a couple of weeks ago after getting initially turned off by the differences in combat and blatant money-grubbing scratch extravaganza (Come buy all your old gear AGAIN! WE MADE IT BETTER!)..
But after playing a couple of weeks and getting through the current "story" content, I'm kind of interested to see what they intend for this world. The weird structure of the planet does make it look artificial, but the thing I've been picking up on more is the amount of weird .. _stuff_ strewn all over the planet. It really hit me most in Retem (the city in particular), but the entire environment looks almost like it could be the _wreckage of Xiao_. Considering the original Oracle was a ship built around Xion to carry the planet physically through space, what if the second mother ship eventually failed, and all they could do was disassemble the ship, and build an artificial continent for the survivors to inhabit?

    there is 2 posibilities here
1 which i mention in my videos : Halpha could be a dormant Xion clone we never knew yet, but since its sleeping the Arks use it as a Noah Ark in the past to keep the species we know now as formers , who knows maybe the old planets (EP1 to EP3) had to be purged in order get rid of the darkers for good.
2 as many says Halpha its indeed a simulation but not the VR kind , it can be like the island on PSO1 Ep2 which could be a replica of the mess that happen in base PSO2 (a cousin replayed PSO1 on the gamecube and thats how he got that idea)
in any case i hope Halpha turnout to be a nomad planet like in Shadow Raiders and DOLLS and Alters origin homeworld end up be called Homega XD

also the 1st letters of each region can be read as:
    Aelio
    Retem
    Kvaris
    Stia
so what we get when we read those 4 together?
    A.R.K.S.
    coincidence? dont think so...
this also in line with the possibility of ngs being a simulation, and the fact that you mentioned that the 4 regions are the 4 planets from those ps1-4 games
also, the lack of linkup story with base pso2 to ngs is also problematic
supposedly we are 1k years after pso2's events, but other than us being able to use our old chara from base, and being called a meteorn, nothing links us to pso2...

    • @Zeomantic
      @Zeomantic  Рік тому

No real connective tissue now between base and NGS, but that might change at some point. And for the 1000 year thing, that may or may not still be in play since they took it off the website a while back.

    • @Cythyel
      @Cythyel Рік тому

@@Zeomantic hmm... if they did take that info down, then the reason behind ngs is even sketchier than before...
i havent played ngs for 5-6 months now, so no clue about stia story yet...
but as you mentioned in your video, there are just too many uncertainities about ngs atm

All roads lead back to base somehow... You can see it in the enemies, the music, the environments, he'll even us being there with amnesia as illused to by the falz final boss song ... I believe there will be a event or something that triggers our characters to remember. Also it helps that matoi is still canonlogically Alive

@@Zeomantic even though I ignored most of the PSO2 story. Profound darkness is fused with the records meaning it is eternal regardless if it's physical form is sealed or destroyed.
So it would stand to reason that this is a weird Phantasy star 4 redux where dark falz is just a manifestation of profound darkness that technically is never sealed.
Halpha is just a simulation to bring about its emergence, which technically isn't actually possible because there's no longer anything to unseal just chaos playing out from memory in an endless cycle.
Everyone had a role to play and we are also fragments of the record to play the role of hero in a pointless circle jerk.
