    ik I haven't been in Staten Island especially the Railway for years but I never realized the overpasses for Nassau and Atlantic finally closed down after being redundant. Heard they were still around long after the platforms were closed off

    • @morganlimes
      @morganlimes  2 роки тому +1

      Yea same I've only rode the SIR once before this video.
      Also I was reading comments on other videos about the staten island railway and I saw a few that said the overpasses were still there but those comments were from 4 months ago.
      So I'm assuming they tore them down just recently at beginning of this year 2022

    I haven't ridden this in about 50 years. I can't believe the B&O color-position signals are still up.
    The New Dorp Lane grade crossing is long gone, alas. When I was growing up in Borough Park, Brooklyn, on a summer night with my windows open, if the wind was blowing just the right way, I could hear the faint wailing of train horns signalling for it so many miles away. Now I'm living in suburban Philly and get awakened many mornings by SEPTA trains bellowing for Rydal Road at 06:30.

    Wow this is a neat perspective, from the deck just above the coupler!
    Last time i took a trip on the SIR was back in the early 80s before i moved to Cali, when many of the stations were still wooden: So neat to see the stations having been rebuilt and the whole line refreshed!!
    I take it the SIR has completely transitioned off of the old block signaling system? I can see the spots where the signals were located with the boxes between the tracks and i see signals near switches, but none were lit
    Real neat the little speedo in the upper left, that disappeared after awhile i see...
    Thank you SO MUCH for providing these views!! Lets me see things i cant do from 2k+ miles away!!

    One trivia point: the Tottenville depot is the southern most railway terminus in New York State because Tottenville is the southern most point in New York State. You can't go any further south without going into the drink.

    Does St. George Terminal really need that many platforms? Maybe they can all be replaced by one wide island platform and the line can curve west and RCB Ballpark could be restored. That way, St. George can become a through-station rather than being separated with a wye like Hoboken on PATH. This is because the line could continue north of the island as it used to go there.

    • @edwardp3502
      @edwardp3502 3 місяці тому

      The Ballpark Station is literally 200 feet west of St. George Terminal and was a complete waste. Fully 95% of SI train and bus riders go through St. George. The old North Shore line is dead and ripped up in many spots and ain’t never coming back. Any $$ should go to new trains, buses and station improvements for the current MTA properties.
