- Today I find out how bad UA-cam Shorts really are compared to TikTok and Instagram Reels by watching UA-cam Shorts for 1 hour straight on an account that's subbed to ZERO UA-camrs! These UA-cam Shorts made my brain melt and are way worse than Funny TikToks or funny mediashare videos but I did this for science to test the UA-cam Shorts algorithm!

The real reason why it never changed is because the algorithm doesnt update until you refresh the page/app, then it gives you tailored content. Also, at least for me the way i got sucked into shorts was because it would recommend me shorts from people im subbed to and then it would slowly show more unrelated videos. For anyone that needs it, you can get youtube to stop showing you shorts by choosing "not interested" on every short it shows you.
There's a channel called Cooking with Fred, whose UA-cam Shorts are a literal breath of fresh air because it's literally just him cooking food from shows or putting new twists on fast food

The disturbing part is I haven’t seen your videos in like 2 years and rediscovered this channel via UA-cam shorts, and ontop of that I recognize most of these ppl and videos from UA-cam shorts of my own.
UA-cam went down hill the moment elsagate arrived and it's sad because I remember when UA-cam was good like it had Nyan cat and other stuff now it's just huggy wuggy and skibidi toilet :(

Ever since short form content became mainstream my mental health has only degraded. I fucking hate short form content and only ever get upset when i end up endlessly scrolling through shorts. I genuinely hope that youtube crashes and all shortform content gets removed. It has only been a net negative on the world.
It is not that you only saw bad videos you just didn't bother watching the good ones.
The do not recommend channel button does not work for me. Shoutout to my Zach, favorite youtube shorts channel according to youtube cuz he always appears no matter the amount of times Ive clicked the button. Shoutout to bstchild for being the best yt shorts creator.

late reply but i've been watching YT shorts for like a year because I don't have tik tok or any other reel-based platform, and it took like 4 months to FINALLY give me decent stuff. Just pre-sleep boredom and man, the algorithm fucking blows. It takes SO long to get anything you like lol
UA-cam shorts algorithm caters by what you click on more than retention, if you want more niche content(in my case I watch a lot of guitar content) either search and click on shorts with the niche in the title, or only click on the shorts that pop up with the stuff you want. Weird it's not retention based, but definitely whatever you click is what you get from what I've seen.

if you want shorts to show you tailored content, its probably best that the first short you watch is tailored towards you. on my yt shorts, i nearly always get stuff related to music, my personal niche.

Also I never get any of the trending ones, cause yt doesn't recommend shorts from channels I have not watched before. This is just how it is for me. Though I personally prefer the wider format of an actual video.

19:00 vsauce shorts are the only good shortform content on youtube shorts. they are informative, to the point, they are actual original shorts and not just clips from his youtube videos, and best of all he doesnt do the stupid loop thing

That Max and Ruby creepypasta genuinely gave me a fear that still lingers to this day. There were pictures that went along with it if them without faces except for huge, void eyes. If a pair of eyes is too big with too big of pupils it still scares me and I'm a grown ass adult
