Cancelo looks more comfortable going forward, Walker loses the ball too often but Cancelo not only carries the ball elegantly but also provides pin point crosses which are a delight to watch, can’t wait to watch him in the Euros for Portugal
Walker does not lose the ball often. If you watch him play he never takes on players or drives forward. He only goes up to assist his wingers and make overlaps. He also stays back in corners free kicks. Pep plays him because he is as fast or faster than nearly all wingers and because of his ability to switch the play when his opposite winger is free.
He is the best in pl if you ask me...even aronld is bit slow to him...his shots are quite amazing on both foots i doubt his ability to defend but he is certainly improved that too... Portugal missed him during euro for sure
Have you heard Man U have inverted wingers and strikers? The wingers don’t cross the ball like any other winger and the strikers purposely don’t put the ball in the net, pure genius!
When Pep came to England he was often asked how/whether he adapted his style to the league. And while I'm sure he did that to some extend - had other things to worry about than in other leagues - he said and has _always_ said: "I adapt to the qualities of my players." And it shows particularly this season where he has adapted the team to the qualities of Cancelo and also Rodri - who wasn't a like for like replacement for Fernandinho, as everyone could see last season, making people wonder if Rodri was the right fit. At the same time we've seen how the offensive approach has slightly changed over the past season or two due to the loss of Sané and his directness
As a Utd fan it’s great seeing Cancelo’s improvement especially after barely being able to get game time last season. Would’ve loved for him to come during his Juve spell
great one Dave, love me some Cancelo, also I think it really proves pep and city's quality and audacity to be one of the first teams to execute the 3-4-3 diamond so beautifully.
beautifull explanation would love to see more such vids regarding other players too like theo hernandez, jordi alba , TAA , robertson , carvajal , renan lodi , etc
I’ve been struggling of what type of player I am and some friends say fullback and others say hold midfielder but this is what I am and will be doing in any game I play
I love baller wingbacks, and I really love this trend. Started seeing Trent drifting more to the middle and utilize the half-space too. I feel like Telles also has this potential, if only United can facilitate it.
5:35 I'd be really curious to know if someone has been able to recreate that shape (classic 4-3-3 without the ball, that evolves into a 3-4-3 diamond with the ball) in Football Manager...
Interestingly in recent games we've seen Aaron Wan Bissaka play a bit more inverted, especially with Dan James in front of him. The reason is likely because in the past, James and Wan Bissaka has occupied the same space a lot of the time effectively crowding each other.
Everyone amazed with Pep and his ideas he’s using 343 with a tight diamond in midfield with one wide midfielder dropping in to create a 433 in their build up play Cruyff was doing the same thing with Barca when Pep was playing
Cancelo have been excellent at Right Inverted Fullback. Now City has been rumored to sign in Gosens from Atlanta, Imagine both of them playing just made me crazy, lol.
Hey Dave what do you think of united using wan bissaka as an inverted full back who moves into the holding midfield position alongside fred letting mctomminay push up into the right half space and letting him make runs into the box whilst james holds the width on the right as a traditional winger/wingback would
I'm starting up as a coach for u15 and have a question for Guardiolas wing (not wingback) role - does the wings ALWAYS stay wide? And how much do the attacking wings work in defence? Would really appreciate if anyone would elaborate.
I think it’s underestimated how good Zinchenco is as an “inverted full back” as he brings defensive stability in the double pivot.. Also don’t forget city’s wingers always hug the touch line in transition and don’t run to the back post unless they are in the final 3rd ....
Excellent video pointing out the evolution of Pep's inverted FB role. Haven't seen a player's fortunes turn around so much thanks to a tactical change in quite a while. Cancelo looked a pointless transfer last season.
Cancelo is different to all the other players pep has used as inverted fullback, pep has previously used inverted fullbacks as way to prevent counter attacks or give him numerical advantage in midfield, they weren’t very creative, Cancelo is playing much higher like #10, he is Man City secondary creator behind KDB.
@@KW_94_25 he never used inverted fullbacks at Barcelona, he had Eric Abidal and Dani Alves traditional attacking fullbacks no need to use inverted fullbacks, first time he used inverted fullbacks was at Bayern Munich with Philipp Lahm, pep has used inverted fullbacks previously but not the same way he uses Cancelo.

Depends on what you have. If you have players like Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Gundogan it'd be naïve to play with 2 flying wingbacks. Pep's Barca only had one in Alves On the flipside if your midfielders are more like Liverpool's flying wingbacks are a must I think we've seen how even just adding in one 'tiki taka' type midfielder in Thiago can leave Liverpool more vulnerable to counters at times

100% with Sancho ahead.
Don’t think Trent would be able to handle the defensive duties required
