Rudy was a good friend for many years. Your compliments are well deserved. My only regret is that he never got the stardom he deserved. He was every bit as good as Eddie Fischer and others of that time.
Success does not depend on just talent. It takes getting the right breaks... financial support from someone willing to assist you financially and God wanting you to succeed. Without all three of those things going for you... chances are... you will not succeed no matter how hard you try. Instead of fame & success... your whole life will be a mere existence and a total clusterfu_k. I know this first hand.

The Al Jolson Story and Al Jolson sings again I have in my video library and have lost times how many times I have watched both films back to back. Great memories
Yes absolutely. I am 33 years old today. I was born in 91. And I have the fondest memories of watching both of those movies with my Pop pop. Such golden cherished memories that will forever be so dear to me.
A pure genious and gentleman if kinder days..his voice only got better with time, but this as a kid..brings tears as to his then musical gift & integrity..yes biased as Irish & Sweet Sixteen a national icon...but Joleson was a musical & performing genious never matched. John Co Tipperary Ireland.
As I watch this wonderful clip over and over, I can't help but think to myself how truly beautiful innocence is. If only the world had more of the beautiful example felt through this precious young man's voice. It's a shame he (Rudy Wissler) didn't get credit for his rare talent at the time. Nevertheless, it was worth it all for the world to have his stellar voice in this excellent movie clip.
Well I've read the messages you all left here. I've never seen a nicer group of people you all said such wonderful things about Mr.Jolson He would be proud to call you ALL friends!
I listen to this over and over. I feel that I am honoring my mother and grandmother who were there for me I cry most times. I tried to find out more about Rudy Wissler but didn’t find much. Does anyone know more. Scotty is adorable but that voice is magic.
I couldn't agree more. This rendition has touched my heart so deeply. The first time I listened to it, I cried. i watch it over and over also. I simply love the beauty of the innocence that was captured.
My Dad used to sing this to my mother. They married when she was just 16. It really tugs at my heart strings. Rudy Wissler imho far outweighs Jolson - the quality of his voice is sensational.
My father used to sing this to my mother also when he came home after the war... He knew all the words to the popular songs, way back in the '50s. How he learned the words i don't know because we had no radio and their was no TV in those days. You could understand every word in the songs in those days,, despite the poor sound quality of the day. You cannot make out a single word of today's songs, if you can call them songs.
Sometimes the cynical movie factories in Hollywood produced magical moments, and this is one of them. Yes it's as sappy as it can be-----shamelessly so. Heaven help me, it gets me every time.
Marvelous Voice and a great Talent ! I saw the Film The Al Jolson's story.Like most of us He hasn't had a Rosy life, He's wife, whom He loved very much, didn't approve of whom singing to the Public ! Yet He had a Brilliant voice and loved the Public so much was born to be a showman..
You have to understand that THE JOLSON STORY (1946) is a highly fictionalized account of the life and career of Al Jolson. "Julie Madison" stood in for Jolson's ex-wife, Ruby Keeler, who would not give consent to the film studio to portray her onscreen; so "Julie Madison" was invented. In the movie, Julie first tries to make Al stick with retired life, then leaves him because she realizes that he's like a caged bird that deserves to be set free; but in real life, Jolie never "retired" but he was in a career slump, and Miss Keeler never asked him to step down from showbiz but left him because he had become abusive toward her.
Scotty Beckett was the cutest little Rascal in Our Gang, and here as a teenager, he still has this beautyfull dark eyes, and did a great job, as the Young Al Jolson.
I wish I had been lucky enough to do this. But that would have been strictly against the law of the time. I have always felt that the years before I met mine were wasted years. I met her when I was nineteen. Some 50 years ago now. And I find that spending a single day without her is rather unpleasant.
@@smitajky "Strictly against the law of the time"? I don't think so. But the 'liberals' of today would tear you to pieces if you did that now. OK, 16 is a bit too young for taking marriage vows but I know quite a few old ladies who did so and now they're happy great-grand mothers. The thing about liberals is that you're welcome into their world provided you agree with everything they say, do and don't do.
Just guessing, here, but maybe Jolson wasn't satisfied with Scotty's rendition. Jolson might have thought that the person who ended up dubbing the young actor sounded more like himself as a teen.
Jolson Had To Be The only Jewish Entertainer That Could Sing Like An Irish Tenor,Joe Feeney( Irish Tenor,The Lawrence Welk Show) Probably Emulated Jolson's Singing Style.
I might also venture the guess that Jolson was far from the only entertainer with Jewish or non-Irish, non-British roots to sing the kind of songs that were popular to WASP / Caucasian audiences. Irving Berlin famously wrote and composed "White Christmas," for instance. Countless other Jewish vaudevillians incorporated songs and other types of entertainment in their acts which catered to the WASP society of their day in order to stay in business if nothing else. Other showbiz figures like Lebanese-American Danny Thomas (who sung "Danny Boy" and made it as much his signature song as "Thanks for the Memories" was Bob Hope's) also knew where their bread was buttered and became better known for the kind of comedy and singing that would appeal to the predominantly Anglo / Irish American audiences.

Not Jolson. It was from the movie it was Scottie Becket.
Actually it was the voice of Rudy Wexler , on all Beckett's singing scenes

Jolson Had To Be The only Jewish Entertainer That Could Sing Like An Irish Tenor,Joe Feeney( Irish Tenor,The Lawrence Welk Show) Probably Emulated Jolson's Singing Style.
Quite a few pop artists have emulated Jolson who was an idol to them: Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley to name just a few.
I might also venture the guess that Jolson was far from the only entertainer with Jewish or non-Irish, non-British roots to sing the kind of songs that were popular to WASP / Caucasian audiences. Jolson himself came from an orthodox Jewish family out of the Czarist Russian empire -- but he became as American as apple pie as we all know.
Here,here.
