It's been a great series and insight for those of us that haven't made this trek yet. The old saying buy once, cry once. Your gear is quality and has obviously stood up to the test. Thanks for sharing, can't wait until next weeks video.
Thanks champion, glad you’ve enjoyed it 💪
@Trip In A Van - RoadTrip Australia Series Cheers legends
Good to see that you have put a Stone Stomper on. I did my research back in late 2014 looking for something that would keep rocks from damaging front of van and also rebounding off the slope of the mesh and frame on drawbar and hitting my back glass in car. Came across the Stone Stomper and couldn’t be happier. Best thing as it does catch a lot of dust also. Our Stone Stomper was the first one that Christian had
made for a New Jeep Grand Cherokee. Highly recommend them.
Agree, such a good bit of kit💪
Nice vid, we did 11 months around OZ and averaged 1000 a week, family of 4 home schooling one, best thing I’ve done, will do again, been empty nesters in the future, will do again.
Use Lino flooring to line the bottom of draws works a treat and gives a softer surface. No need to glue it in just loose lay it. You will be impressed with it.
Perfect🤙🤙
Hi again Justin. Hubby just watching your video with me again. For all your hose fittings he recommends using Hoselink fittings. You will never have leaks or hoses blowing off under pressure. We have used Hoselink for years on our van and at home...all their products are first class. You cannot buy in shops, you buy direct from Hoselink with free delivery. Merry Christmas to all of you.
Cheers
Hi yeah we run our LC 200 on fresh that's the go again I couldn't recommend Stone Stomper more highly worth every cent. We came back from the gulf & cape in late September D.R.is as rough as I have every seen it I was told not much grading due to covis main trouble windscreen damage .We have AOR van no issues. Have great safe Christmas. Cheers Ian.
Awesome clip guys. Don’t forget to change the cabin filter for the aircon in the vehicle. Ours was like a red brick after the cape👍
Done 🤙 your right it was chock full of dirt
I guys been watching your vids for a while now thought it time to subscribe, I did the cape in 2016 with our van with no problems & the lap including Tassie for 5 months last year, love being on the road to a new adventure when ever I can, but Justin you have got it good to be doing this full time. I would do it in a pinch if I could only convince the wife to sell the house.
Glad you enjoyed it mate👌this lifestyle is great
I did the Cape trip in '19. Found a good way to properly clean the red dust off the outside..
Buy a 4litre CT18 truck wash concentrate. Buy an 8 litre Bunnings economy sprayer, about $8. You might want to get a bigger one with your van, adjust amount of premix to suit.
Get a 600ml soft drink bottle, fill it 50:50 with truckwash and water. Fill the sprayer with water then put the truckwash mix in.
When you pressurise the sprayer it mixes. With the surfaces dry, spray over everything. LET IT DRY.
Then hose it off from the top down, the red dust falls off. You'll have to hand clean the seal voids around hatches but not a biggy.
Youll want to do the rinsing at a car wash bay because the red dust will be on your concrete otherwise.
Perfect 💪
G'day guys, great tips as always. I have one for you for your drawers to stop them marking, Bunnings have a self adhesive tool box liner, just cut to size, peel off the backing and stick into the drawer or cupboard. I've had it in my van for just over a year and it works great. Merry Christmas & a safe and happy new year
Sounds perfect thanks
Awesome Justin 👍you are laugh mate "helping "Bec in the shower ..🤣🤣you are great sports like that 👍a real down to earth couple ..really is a key to why we love watching..thanks again SafeTravels👍
Typical Aussie bogans we are😂😂
It's great when you have good gear and it does what it's supposed to do. You do travel heavy and on those roads you need everything going for you. Watching Cam on Wild Touring, got a cheap canopy and has serious cracks all through it. It's a throw away job when he gets back. Fair dinkum though, just keeping the speed down a bit whether towing or not has to be one of the biggest favours you can do yourself, the gear and other track users. So with that pressure fan no more taping over vents in the van. Just shut the door and go. Sounds so good.
Yeah bud, just switch the fan on, shut the door and get rollin💪
Just wanted to wish you a merry Christmas. You are putting out great videos for us, your family is wonderful and you are making so many great memories. Has bought back Alot of memories for us on places we've travelled to.
Keep up the great work. As I'm recovering from surgery these are something I really look forward to. Hope you get time to relax and stay safe over the festive season. Best wishes for the future.
And you're an AWESOME FAMILY.!!!! Good on you all. Merry Christmas to you all.
Cheers mate merry Xmas
Thanks for the rough costing puts a good bit of an idea for a same sized family!
Me and the miso love every vid! Funny, friendly, but importantly was informative on a level easy to understand!!
Love you guys cheers
Scotty t
Thanks for all the great videos over the year 😍 and I hope you all have a lovely Christmas! 🎄
Cheers mate, merry Xmas
wow!! loved the video mate! it is always fun to see the differences in your caravans there and the ones we have here in the US. they look a lot alike on the outside but sure are not the same, i see the water system is way different. we need to have the stone blocker here, that looks great! But the cost of travel it seems is really high there. using powered pay sites, my tow vehicle is petrel (gas), food and all we never spend more than $150.00 a week at the very most. But if we use the solar or generator with no pay sites the cost is like 50 dollars or even less a week. my truck towing the caravan gets 17 miles to the gallon and 23 alone... i love some things i see in yalls caravans and some stuff i love about ours. as always !! yall stay safe and keep the uploads going! cheers!
Thanks mate, very different travel between countries hey. I’m the same, I love some of the gear in the US as well!
Good feedback on the CaraFan. We are getting one fitted at build in our Masterpiece van, even though we were told we didn't need one. clean inside van, happy wife :)
Great you guys plug the little bloke detailer. We’ll use him next time we’re up north. 🤟
He’s a real nice young fella, did an awesome job👌
I live in Cairns and will use him. I’ve been charged heaps more by “professionals”. The job he did for you looked outstanding.
Thanks for all your efforts. this series was fantastic. an honest look at the cape. if i was too only watch UA-cam. i would be thinking that you must tackle Gunshot to get there. plus the other tourists you showed at all the attractions. their not seen in a normal 4x4 youtube video. and the "towns" you stay at. all i ever hear is, fill up your jerry cans at Cairns, then your on your own. Good Luck !!!
turtles hatching, priceless memories.
wrap some flat rubber around your pressure valve. like the kids bikes handlebar gadgets.
Thanks great tips. Good to see the van handle the rough stuff. The cruiser came up nicely after detail. Have a great christmas.
Stoked with the gear🍺
@@TripInAVan you should be. However you got top of the range, which you need for the tasks you put it to.
I have enjoyed your trip so so much wish I was younger as would love to be a grey nomad and try and travel round Australia, I just love your country will be so glad when this crazy time is over and I’m able to visit my son he lives in Perth about an hour North of the city just I love it I’m over, earlier this year before locked down he took us down South for a few days to Hamlin Bay and last year we went up North to Monkey Mia, you have given your children a great childhood with great memories so glad I followed you 💕💕
Thankyou
Wow!!! Did the Cape and no damage. Well I guess there is a first time for everything. 😃
👌
Not sure if this comment has already been posted however with my experience with Toyota prado and work mate cruisers etc (late models), run them in fresh air before and after you hit the dirt stretches when ever possible. This is not a myth.
Awsum series of videos. Very entertaining & informative. Keep up the good work- loved it. Cheers
Thanks mate
What a set up absolutely stunning 👍 🏴
Cheers mate
Hi Guys, it’s great for us Brits watching you guys touring Oz. We are at the planning stage of our trip to Oz and are hoping to spend a big stretch touring. You seem to chase the good weather across the country and we were wondering your opinion on the weather around the cape in July -Sept.
Great video’s guys.... keeping us entertained and informed all the way. Love it!
Perfect time of year to visit the cape, just be careful of school holidays, it can get very busy 🤙
Thanks heaps love ya work ,awesome setup,ya get what ya pay for, dirt roads have an accumulative affect on all gear.Stay strong and have a merry ho ho ho may Santa bring you what you wish for.Keep the clips coming Please🍀👍😍🇦🇺P.s you shaw you haven't forgot some costs,it cost more than that to stay at home😂🇦🇺
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it
Great presentation on how your trip went and what worked well. Thank you from Farmer Boo
Cheers mate
Yep, this is the type of information we all need, great to hear all went smoothly
Probably, one off the best rig builds in Australia and best equipped.Love the tinnie adventures, great edition
I suspect you guys want to escape the heat now.....
Thanks mate, hiding out down south for xmas then back north 🤙🤙
Great work as always guys, very enjoyable to watch. I guess you get to a point of knowing what works now for you and what doesn't, thankfully you let us know and I noted some of your gear early in the piece and have a lot of the same brands and havn't looked back with having to replace our gear.
Thanks again guys, from Geraldton in WA
Cheers mate
Well done you guys, great insight of your trip and how everything performed.
Thanks mate
You run the aircon on fresh air and then change back to recirculated air when a vehicle is coming the other way and you will drive through their dust. I think my dads 200 has a button that switches to recirculated air for a short time and then changes back.. Might be worth checking the user manual for that one.
Hi Guys, Great trip vid from both of you. Followed the trip all the way, fantastic info and footage. Terrific round up on van / car performance. You prove that if you do the research and pay for the right products, you will have the trip of a lifetime without those constant break downs. Have a very happy Christmas and New Year. Looking forward to 2021
Russell
Thanks mate
Love your set-up and the fact you can run your air conditioner from the lithium battery gear.
That makes me wonder....so a question:
Have you ever considered running the air conditioner whilst you're driving along....you'd arrive to a nice cool van and the batteries would still be 100% because of the solar plus the DC2DC charger working while you're driving too.
It is a pain in the arse when you get to a camp spot at the end of the day and the van is like an oven inside.
We have the 300ah of lithium, but would need a bigger inverter (only have 1800 watt at present) PLUS we'd need to get a more energy-efficient air conditioner. We have a 2012 Bushtracker and towed by our Chevy Silverado.
We have done that before yes! And worked a treat, nice cool van 👌
Fantasic info as usual, love to see your care for the environment in practical ways. Great that you plugged the detailer and good tip section, sometimes people do not think of the small n simple things. Travel safe and Merry Christmas to you all, keep up the awesome work.
🎅🤶🧑🎄🧑🎄🧑🎄
Thankyou mate, merry xmas👍

Did you see what I meant by the guide posts next to the table drains getting broken off guys.seen so many people bugger tyres doing that table drain run.sounds like you guys might have gotten out of the top end just in time.great stuff that nothing damaged and all is safe.some of the big bull dust pits will take you by surprise at times .😁

Merry Xmas to you and your family.
Can’t wait to see so much more of your vids in 2021. Should be an awesome year.
Thankyou mate! Looking forward to it
Awesome breakdown (Hahahah no pun intended) of the gear and how it handled the trip. I’ve seen heaps of you (nearly all of em) vids now , I understand how to pack the van weight distribution etc, how do ya keep things actually safe in the shelves ? Glassware , plates etc .
Silly
Me , pays to watch the end of the vid. Question answered !!! Der me. Soz
Have a great Xmas and look forward to up dates next year
Hey guys top info sounds like you’ve got it down pat 👍 you guys have a magnificent life, you are really living the dream🤙 have happy and safe Xmas 🎄
Cheers mate
Sorry if I have missed this information, you often mention about dropping the tyre pressures for sand and dirt roads. I have never seen any mention about what you use to pump them back up again? Do you have a little electric tyre inflator or similar please? Thanks Keith
We have an ARB twin compressor in the canopy 🤙
@@TripInAVan Thanks v much. Keith
Great video guys love the videos and the rig 😍😍😍
Thankyou mate, merry Xmas
As always terrific vid. Have a ripper Christmas TIAV
Great job Guys. me and my daughter love your content watching your Videos keep it up 👍
Thanks heaps
Great tips guys, thanks! Loved watching the Cape Series.
Cheers mate🍺
Fantastic, so informative, so love your content.
Thanks mate
Just wondering with dust in your van and how you have stopped it.......do you have a positive air pressure system on your van to help stop the dust ? Thanks Trish
loved it folks, just wondering what sort of drone you used and brand of go pro, you have probably mentioned it somewhere but I havn seen it yet. cheers
Awesome series got a few of your tips Thanks
Cheers mate
Love your work Jack. Steady hands!!! Awesome series guys! Well done. Merry Christmas and love from here in Cronulla, please come and visit "The Shire" one day and I'll show you around - the kids the BEST swimming holes we have around here...Drop me a line here if you get this way. Cheers, GB
Thanks so much mate, appreciate the support and merry Xmas 🍺
Hi mate, with the dust coming in, as you have had the vehicle converted to a dual cab, have the people that modified it refitted the rear ventilation? This is a common cause on crew cab conversion.
Great run down mate, quick question did you do anything to protect the water pipe that connects the two front water tanks? I keep looking at ours and don’t really like the way it projects out. Anyway welcome back to fickle Victoria and have a great Christmas
Really enjoyed it thanks Guys ☺️
Thankyou
Hi Justin, in one vid you mentioned a nifty little grease gun...what was it, where did you get it and cost? Travel safe, Peter
A wonderful commentary and have followed you all the way up the Cape. just wondering what type of tow hitch you are using
Thanks mate we have the DO45 from cruisemaster
great vid just got a question with your boat you have turn buckles to tie it down but how does it join to your boat and roof rack.thanks guys
Eyebolts through the ribs in the tinny and eye bolts in the rack🤙
@@TripInAVan thanks for that.
Another top vid Justin - it looked like your replacement air filter element was a Ryco rather than an OE part? I'd recommend sticking with OEM Toyota as I've found they do a better job... I have however now gone Unifilter but I won't buy into that argument ;-)
It was a western filters I think
Great info and video, legends
Thankyou
Awesome video! 👍
What would be your recommendation for two people who want to do extensive travelling around Australia but neither of us have mechanical knowledge so we can't fix cars or caravans ourselves? How far is safe to go? Which regions would we avoid?
Best advice, if budget allows?? Is to buy new vehicle and van. This way you have warranty cover and also shouldn’t break anything or break down. Also have top roadside cover just in case.
Great series, and love the production, you are certainly getting more professional. Question, what grease are you using on the Cruisemaster, and I think my full sized grease gun is staying home. Cheers.
Just a multi purpose chassis grease 👌
Great video as always.
Hopefully we will see you back in the West soon.
Question on the budget.... just a rough figure out of the $4500 how much went on fuel for that magnificent Cruiser? Roughly how many Ks did you rack up?
Cheers
Yeeew bloody good mate. Hope I that i can meet you one day 👍🏽
Cheers mate! I’ll shout ya a beer if The fridge is full🤙
@@TripInAVan I'm actually 13 😂 But I love you vids
Thanks good information, great stuff.
Cheers🍺
Didn't you get a flat with the older vehicle on the Oodnadatta or around that way somewhere, or was that someone else?
Thanks for hot tips always
Cheers mate🍺
Hi Justine, I have been watching your videos for quite a while and have (over time) become more inspired to get out there and travel. I have been looking at Vans and have been doing a lot of research. One of the options is a Jayco, however, you mention in this Video that you are going to swear when y6ou mention the Jayco shop . Why is this? Are these vans not suited for travel in Australia ?
Merry Xmas guys!! Hey Justin seeing as the stone stomper is so great at stomping stones, whats your thoughts on eliminating the stoneguard on the van?? Looks as though its used to support the stomper as well but was thinking it may give a better turning circle if ya ever in a pickle.
Yeah you could ditch the stone guard, but you’d have to run something across the drawbar as a support for the stone stomper.
It doesn’t restrict my turning circle as it clears the canopy on full lock, and I store all my annexe flooring behind it as well👌
Great video Justin! Thank you, for all the people who follow you in other parts of the world could at some point you give thick people like me a run down of some of the Aussie stuff ? For example the different surfaces that you mention, I know most of it is common sense but it would be great to know and another example why is called a Tinney ? As a Brit 95% of what you talk about is the same it’s just the odd thing, please don’t think I’m taking the piss mate I’m not at all it just would bE really nice to know. Thanks again, Giddy up ! 🤟🏼🍻
😂😂for sure mate. I get that some of our Aussie slang is hard to understand.
Quick question: How do you think the standard suspension on the Desert Storm would handle the Cape trek?
Great little tutorial TIAV. Thanks. Love your work.
It would handle it no worries, but the airbag is next level smooth
@@TripInAVan Thanks. Can you get them installed after handover?
@@davidriley119 not if you’ve got the XT.
The ATX we have is a different trailing arm👌
@@TripInAVan ... and tell the Stone Stomper mob I’m NOT buying one of their products UNLESS they start sponsoring you for highlighting their excellent products! 😂
@@davidriley119 it’s all good mate. Credit where credits due hey. It’s an unreal product 👌
Hi guys , another great vid, love the tips section keep them coming , I also ask to assist in hair wash in shower, and glad to see iron doors in your van work too. Merry Xmas guys
Hi guys. I know this is a long shot to ask a question an expect reply. But I was just curious how you found the Willow van you had? And if it is worth while looking at?
Cheers Mikey
Great van mate. We just outgrew it’s payload. It was 3200kg atm. We now have up to 4.5tonne
Just completed a drive from Exmouth to Bunbury and return towing my caravan, gotta say driving long distance is hard yakka. Struggling with fatigue and boredom. Any tips? I try to limit drives to 400km. per day.
Yeah that’s the best tip is just limit your hours. Plenty of sleep, healthy snacks and fruit instead of coffee and lollies
Hey guys, just loving the vids. Q. How do you open that top fridge hatch at each stop, do you just keep a plastic step handy somewhere? Also, are you still happy with those particular brand hatches. Like to do same on our new van build. cheers Mark
I just stand on the wheel and open it up! Still super happy with them 🤙
For your draws ,, use new floor lino, just cut to size !!
Looking good guys how long are you in victoria
What would be the best tip (other than being organised) for a first timer to the Cape. We will only have a semi off-roader so would you recommend??
Ps - great series as well 👏👏
Drive to conditions and take extra days to enjoy💪
Awesome cheers, loved the walk around, Great to see the 200 and the sunseeker holding up , really cool. My question is how many more years are you planning to do this ??? Or is it live for today and tomorrow will take care of itself, Just wondering, I'm so amazed how you guys just keep going.
Lots of plans mate, no need to stop! Loving life💪👍
@@TripInAVan you're definitely doing that and on top of the world, Your amazing and inspiring, Looking forward to the next trip .
@@brandonspain3483 cheers
Another great vid - thanks guys, love your work!! 👍🏻
I have a question on the finish of your bullbar on the cruiser - the black powder coat finish (that Pro Touring concepts uses) appears to have a textured finish/feel to it... How does it go in the red dust? I would have thought that it may be harder to keep clean than a smooth paint type finish?
Jayco PLV .... bwaaahaaaaa. Grab the Bunnings one, youll be needing it soon enough
Great vid bro thanks
Another awesome wrap up guys,
Question
Do you carry any jerry cans of fuel?
Also really want some merch how do we get our hands on it?
Cheers Scotty T
We do carry a jerry can mate, for random needs. But we have 270litres of onboard fuel
You can grab our merch here, full restock happening tonight 👌navigatorgear.net.au/collections/trip-in-a-van
@@TripInAVan
270 that’s enormous!! 💪🏼💪🏼🍺
Love your vids. Can't wait for our turn! 6 months or so! The dream is to go for as long as possible, but we will have to see! Question: Do you open the fridge hatches when you park up? Or is the whirly bird enough?
We haven’t bothered unless it’s super hot. Whirly bird does the trick🤙
as always , all good, mate!
Cheers👊
Some great info there mate 👍👍, can’t believe the corregations shook your beard off 😳
