1977. I thought it was written just for me. I was young so...dreamed and danced to it.
R.I.P Jeff Porcaro. He could play his drums with such soul and passion. Miss him so much.
Agreed. Jeff Porcaro was really something special.
Roger, I miss Jeff to. Thank you for saying that.
@@billbox1916 No problem :-)
🌈🌺 yep , R.I.P.
RIP Alan O'Day and Jeff Porcaro!
Oh my, this was my FAVORITE SONG 🎵 in 1977!!! I still listen to it often, thanks Lee !
Leland, you and your channel are an absolute treasure.
Operation Acoustic yes he is 🙂
Music just transcends all.
I was 6, when this song was released- '77.
I am now 50, and have made a good living through music, metal music, for the most part, but this will always be one of my faves. I do a little everything, mostly guitar, but the rolling bass lines of the 70s, and early 80's move me like nothing else.
I honestly believe I could have done more justice to the music community, if I focused my sights on the bass.
Thank you, for being you.
This brought back a funny childhood memory.
I was 11 years old when Undercover Angel was released. I heard it for the first time on the car radio while driving somewhere with my Mom. She was bopping along to it and then suddenly she turned the radio off and said "You shouldn't listen to that filth" hahahaha
So of course that became my new favorite song - and whenever I heard it outside of her presence I treasured the listening experience!
Awesome song too! Alan O Day One of My Favorites! Too! 🎉❤😊
Who doesnt remember that beautiful 45 PACIFIC label? Best looking label EVER. Jeff shows off bigtime on the ending of this longer version
Lee, sorry to have to tell you but a buddy of mine went on disability because of this song.
Whenever it came on, all the dudes in the warehouse would groan. Therefore I'd turn it up full blast just to be a pain in the neck. You can only imagine a warehouse full of guys "singing" along and acting out the song complete with hand and terrifying hip gestures...especially during the bridge. It was a thoroughly grotesque yet riveting display of debauchery. Well, one of the guys wound up for his grand finale.... and really threw his hips into it and hurt his back, therefore filed a workers comp claim. He told the boss the pallet jack broke, but we knew it was the Gilbert jack that caused it. His wife never knew the real story behind his bad back until he told her just before he died a couple years ago, to cheer her up.
The only other song that got almost as rambunctious was Who Shot A Hole In My Sombrero that a Tijuana station used to play. Man, that was the life.
I remember in the summer of ‘78 that song blasting in the Arthur Treacher‘s fish and chips jukebox LOL
Small world Lee....I knew Alan O'Day. I used to play at a steakhouse named Jason in Toluca Lake behind Warner Brother's Studio in the 1970's. Juice Newton and Otha Young had just come to town and played there. And Richard Gills had just finished writing music for the movie, The Ballad of Cabel Hoge. It was a time. Saw the sun come up more than once after last call and the club closed and the guitars came out. What I remember most was how supportive this batch of folks were seeing each other have some recognition. You don't seen make friends like that later in life. It just seems to be something that happens when you are young. Thanks for the song.
Wow. Alan was a friend of the family and produced an album for the band my dad was in. My parents pulled me out of school for a week so I could attend the recording sessions. I was around twelve but had been playing trumpet for a couple of years and was as serious about music as a 12 year old could be. I would have been happy just being a fly in the wall but Alan welcomed me into the booth to experience the production side of music. To say the least he was a lovely soul.
HELEN REDDY WAS FABULOUS VOICE! ❤
I worked with Alan in the 1970's, writing all his lead sheets for ATV music. One of my faves is his 'Easy Evil,' a song that even then had several dozen recordings, but never became a first-run hit. Alan and a small group I put together attended a P.D.Q. Bach concert at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in 1975. Did you ever hear his novelty song, "Rubberine"? It's a love song to a blowup doll!
This song was released when I was 11, and I remember saving my paper route money from that summer to go buy the 45. Again I'm blown away by finding out that you were the bassist on so many songs that I've loved since I was a child. The fact that I became a bassist is even more intriguing. 😀
Leon Gieco, Solo le pido a Dios. National Hero in Argentina and much loved. Happy and cheerful tune this undercover angel. :-) John Kay. Great
I long for the days when incredible writing and musicianship was all over the radio. it sounded so human and really tapped right into the depths of your heart and mind.
Operation Acoustic I have to get my fix from Pandora or Spotify. I know Spotify has a Leland Sklar playlist. Maybe this will help. ✌🏼
Lee Sklar, you along with James Jamieson Bernard Edwards and Louis Thunder Thumbs Johnson are the bassists of my life. So much appreciation for you all....good emotions your way. 😍😊😍
Heard a great radio show, today here in Australia with Louis Shelton, guitarist from the the 60s and 70s LA based Wrecking Crew session musician and a record producer....amazing history lesson. 👍🏼
Undercover Angel was part of the soundtrack to the new indoor malls in the late 70’s. Will always remember it.
Que rola tan mas chingona !!!! UNDERCOVER ANGEL THANX
1977. I was 6 years old LOL. But I remember this song vividly! This was the first 45 record that I ever asked for. There was something about that funky pre-chorus that just blew my little mind. “Say what? Say woo o o wee e e... say Aaalll Riiiight....”. Love it! Will never forget Alan O’Day.
A well written pop song is like that perfect piece of See’s Candy, it makes you feel good!
Love that candy, not available in Ireland!
@@petersteemers2047 give me your address, I’ll send you some!
Frank Zappa is also Fabulous too, Mr. Caleudo in Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scotts ..a Classic of All times! 🎉❤😊
Angie Baby may be one of the best creepy songs of all time.
It is listed as a 1977 recording and the musicians on it you listed are stars in their own galaxy. Thank you.
Talented musicians are like good writers there are many more out there than most know about.
You are right 1977
Thanks for All the Awesomeness......
HAVE A FABULOUS! REMAINDER OF YOUR DAY! 😊
I recalll that song from my mis-spent youth. What a great feel; marvellous pop song.
I had a phone conversation with Alan years ago. Super nice guy. Another pop classic featuring Mr. Sklar!
I'm starting to think LeLand 1) has played on everything I ever liked and 2) knows everyone. ;-))
Love that song...1977!
Jeff's drumming is so legendary - the gold standard.
STIRRING IMAGINATION! THANK YOU! SOOO MUCH! ❤🎉😊
Thank you to all the front line workers. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😷😷😷
Fun tune totally should have been a show about a female detective and that theme song!
Vinny is one of the best drummers ever! A cool cat for sure.
I loved this song in my youth. Thank you for sharing it. I didn't realize Jeff Porcaro played the drums on this one but why should I be surprised. I didn't know you played on this one either. Anyway, thank you all for a great song.
I'm 57....this just made my day....Ty Leland
7 songs In one day ....now that's efficient production
Playing with Vinnie, you really perform with the best, because you are the best. Thank You! for all of your incredible work.
Good evening everyone who loves altruistic, modest and simple person...😉 Evening Dear Leland 🙏🏻
So good to see you wow ..you made my days back in the days when I use to live in El Salvador , 1976 you were so popular. Thank you part of my teenage days. Thank you thank you!
It’s always a joy and a treat to spend some time with you, Leland.
Positive Vibrations
Alan also wrote Rock and roll heaven for the Righteous Brothers. This is a feel good song here.
Sounds like an awesome week of music-making! Have utter fun! So looking forward to the Immediate Family show.
Yet another song I didn’t know you did. Lots of great memories listening to it again! Thanks!
I should have realized "The Groove Master" held down the drum beats and a pleasant surprise that you plucked the bass lines.
1977,da 70's had great radio songs.Thx,have a good day!
The only thing for sure in life is Change .... And ..... Lee's daily posts on UA-cam ..... Something I look forward to everyday .... Appreciate you taking the time to share your days and music experiences with us ..... Love the stories ..... You are a Good Man ! Thanks !
Oh my I just heard this on the radio. I remember when this came out. How fun!!
I posted this on Facebook it's one of my favorite tunes I actually have a CD in my car with all the best of the 70s it came from time life and this is one of the hits along with many many more great tunes dude 🤘🤘🤘😎
I love this so much! Alan was a great friend and mentor to me, and to so many.
Today I saw a 1970 or 1972 piece with you, James, and Carole in. It was incredible! Hey man, you too had dark brown hair in the past. Lookin’ good, but man the magic with the three of you was there...
Oh yeah...I remember this 1 from the late seventies. Was ‘77 I believe. The Bee Gees would’ve done awesome with this one I feel. Imagine hearing their harmonies on the chorus?! Melodic pop rock...just LOVE it! Had no idea it was you and Pocaro on it until today but after all, should I be surprised?! No.
I used to play with Buggs Pemberton and Lee Sklar, we tried to cut a power trio album.
Leyland, After finding your channel I've been finding myself looking forward to hearing your latest stories, and listening to your incredible bass playing. Thank you for all you give!.
Thank you for featuring this wonderful song, Leland. Alan.. such a truly special human being. Yuka is a dear friend and neighbor. ❤️
When Vinnie Colaiuta is the drummer and Lee is the bass player, you know it's gonna be a really great session. Love Vinnie's playing. He's one of this drummer's favorite drummers.
Cleaning my house to this song right now 👊🏻
Vinnie is one of my favorite drummers. Soooo smooth!
Dean and I went to high school together and played in the Ft. Worth teenage band scene at the same time. He was already an off the charts guitarist way back then.
It is always good to hear your voice (or your playing) evoking past times. Thank you very much for entertaining us all today. Cheers!!
Maybe a frustrated drummer but most of frustrated / Air drummers are the best and we have the best and biggest kits.
This song was in the rotation of the music at work, and I'm probably the only person there who knew/remembered it. Had I known you were playing on it, it would have caused me to smile even broader when it played...seems like I should have known that somehow...lol!😉🧡
Carries you to a higher realm!
Wow, after hearing that on the radio back in the day, had to run downtown to tower records to pick up the 45... man those were the days!
I have this LP somewhere. I was familiar with Alan even as kid because my mom had alot of Hellen Reddy lps and I would read the credits.
Wow, I had forgotten this song! Thanks for bringing it out in the open again!
Just smooth funky and fun.
Lee you have a perfect radio voice and the gift of storytelling too!
Leland
Hopes and get well soon
Undercover Angel

@@btRU_funQsta yeah who can forget that cheap vinyl they used k- tel and ronco both oh man I could still remember the warps. how's classic '70s albums and early '80s all the variety of music and going down to Music Land and picking it up and then having Dad have to go back with me and return it one or two times cuz it didn't play right LOL..
Music Machine star power who can forget those...though boy it brings back memories
what was really interesting there would be artists you'd never heard of that would be thrown in there that weren't even on the radio it's like who are these people??
That’s a roller skating song right there, that’s what that is!! Such happy memories from today’s pick. Have a great session.
Loved roller rinks!

Once again Jeff and yourself played on one of of my favourite songs!!You guys are amazing!1977 was my favourite year,Hotel CAlifornia,Rumours and Silk Degrees
someone had asked earlier what people's favorite song was when they were 12 years old and I was like oh my gosh I'm too old to remember back that far lol then I thought let me look up some songs or see what was number one back then when I was 12 .. I am now 55 Don't tell lol Anywho I went down the list and seen this one I was like yes this was my favorite song back then Alan O'Day Undercover Angel ....Ahhh take me back when life seemed so easy 😁
Always surprising and fun.
This song always makes me smile, then dance, and it was also a great skate song. I literally thought of this song about a month ago after not hearing it for years. It still makes me laugh and dance. Awesome! I love that this is one of yours as well.
Alan O'Day Undercover Angel 1977
Took me back to my college years in the US. Wonderful, wonderful times! Didnt know you & Jeff Porcaro were involved in this song. Thanks a million for sharing it!
I remember buying "Undercover Angel" at the Kroger's when it first came out. WOW! Major history lesson you give every episode!!
Another song I love that you worked on. Great stuff, thank you Mr Sklar.
I said What?? OMGAWSH I LOVE THIS SONG ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This was a 1977 Numero Uno hit for Alan O’Day. I always studied liner notes & credits back then but your channel takes it to a whole new level. Now in my mid 50’s, I can only imagine how many LP’s I’d be burning through if I was hunkered down 40 plus years ago. At least now we have technology to keep us webbed together & I can take the tunes with me during my daily walks.
Such treasures you hold, Lee. Was just thinking about "Undercover Angel" a moment ago (it's Tuesday, October 27, 2020 now) after listening to Andrew Gold's "Lonely Boy" late Sunday afternoon on October 25, 2020 and the memories of those songs that took me back to age 14 in 1977, growing up in Los Angeles. And here you are, reminiscing about that record, as I had no clue that you played on that recording. Golly Gee!
This has a little “Rockford Files” or “Greatest American Hero” vibe to it!
that was the formula du jour, for sure
"Bad Self-Portraits" by Lakeside Dive would be its modern equivalent, lol.
YOU ARE BLESSED!!! I loved that song when I was a girl tike...lol Fantastic Mr. Lee, its important to use it ,not loose and not loose it . peace , love @ hunan kindness
, Kim-n-Carolina...,, wish youda played with it ? Love seeing you play!!
This cut and Angie Baby were two of my faves from this era.
Clean class performance. thank you Lee.
This song always makes me happy. 70’s am radio! Good to hear you’re busy, man. Thanks for making time for us.
Hee! I remember this song. 😅 The bass really does make this song❣️
Damn Lee, I just looked you up on wikipedia.. WOW you've been around. I'm so impressed. I've seen TOTO three times back in the early 80s. When I saw Jeff play I was totally mesmerized. He was the greatest drummer/percussionist iv ever witnessed. I know you speak of him very highly. There will never be another Jeff. Take good care Lee.
Yea! I AM NUMBER ONE!
Numero uno!
Great tune. Forgot all about this one.
Thank You Lee 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant song - such vibe!
Awesome! 🎉😊❤
My childhood... nothing like great song from the 70’s. My grown children laugh at me bobbing my head to all my soft rock music, to hell with them, lol. Keep em coming Lee. This is the absolute best channel on UA-cam.
So glad you are taking good care of yourself. You are such a gift to us ; not only as a talented artist but as a wonderful human being. God bless all.🌹🙏🏻🇺🇸💙
I have a new respect for this song - a song that I had dismissed when it was first on the airwaves. I now listen to everything that Jeff and you played on with new ears.
