I think Peters tragedy really is that he fulfilled his promise too early. He was the undisputed king of comedy of his time and of improvisation but it was a very 'specialist' talent that couldn't really be applied elsewhere apart from its own world, which is not to downplay it, because it was a unique world filled with invention. But, of course, people expect progressions from people which may be outside their scope or even interest. I don't think you can say Cook didn't fulfil his promise or 'wasted' his talent...but you can lament the fact that his own demons drove him to be quite an unhappy man for a long time.

Shame there was no reference to one of my favourite appearances he made. Playing Mr Jolly in The Comic strip presents Mr Jolly Lives Next Door. Rik, Ade, Nigel and Pete all in one film. Alternative comedy gold! That scene with Nicholas Parsons always cracks me up!

I love Dudley Moore the more these years he appears as actually human and not a robot pre-programmed to play my bouncing-board in an endless duo of filthy comedy. I like the endless duo, but it makes me happy he's sad I'm dead.

I think Dudley's illness has already begun here. So sad.

You must learn to drink from an empty cup! Against boredom even the gods contend in vain.
