Kixx, Hit Squad, Platinum, Classics, EA Classics, The Hits, Archive Collection, White Label, Code Masters: These all used to be what was considered fodder in the game collecting world, Retro Ghetto has made them now desirable. I salute this as it leaves more of the standard releases on the shelf which i personally prefer due to the larger artwork.

not gonna lie, the box art layout for essentials looks way better than what we Americans got with the greatest hits line
Its fun researching and making lists, i remember doing it for the PSP when i was going for a full sealed set. Me and a dude called tyron researched and gathered all info with proof to submit to RetroCollect's database which they accepted.
How big is the full set if I may ask? And for which region is that?

I generally avoid collecting platinum/essentials range, but I have to admit, I really like the essentials consistency of their cases and spines. I only have a handful of PS3 games, but if I decided to start collecting them, I think I'd go for the essentials now, to be honest

I’ve only been following a few months since starting building out my own gaming cave, the PS3 being the only console I never owned back in the day and now I’m sold! All in on the building of a PS3 collection. Luckily for my wallet I’m not so precious (yet) on collecting the red spines but I can feel that creeping in the more times I go on the hunt! 😂😂

I've loved watching you collect ps3 Essentials, its been really interesting to watch you hunt for them. I'd be interested to know of your going to try & collect the placation Greatest Hits titles? (as they also have red spines) Since Greatest Hits is the range that Platinum Title & Essentials Titles evolved into. that said maybe you'll try hunting for the last of the PlayStation 3 Platinum titles?

Hi Callum, new viewer to your channel. Really love the stuff you create. I have been going back and watching some of your older bits too and I have a question. You always talk about the backlog of games you have to play and complete so I just wondered, do you track your completed games at all? Are there any apps or notes you make to keep track of the ones you've played?
Just a thought but I think your ps3 essentials would look nice alongside your switch collection. 👍
The spines look better on the shelf than normal ps3 games, which is the opposite of most of the budget ranges.

I've always made a point to stay away from platinum/essentials but I recently decided to try and find every PS4 game with an Aus Pal Playstation Hits release. 🤞
Would love that list.... Again I won't be infringing on you essentials. I think I'm just going to go for any version of those games, it's just a nice list of "essentials" for the console.

Just found Heavenly Sword essentials at local CEX. Not sure what yours is but my one appears to be from greece. Disc is platinum one but bought anyway as you indicate is a rare one in the wild.

I have come across that WWE '12 Essentials in the wild before! :O I ignored it because, you know, it's a budget range... haha woops. Edit: Ok, I am commenting as I am watching and just saw that yours is German and you say you don't think it got a UK version. I don't want to pour doubt on that, but I am 99% sure the version I saw was with English text and a UK copy. I could be wrong though, it was a while ago that I saw it.

The Australian release of wwe 12 wrestlemania edition was a platinum release. If it helps.
Im in chorley and i cant find none in my local cex they just dont seem to get them in and not many steel books either

For PAL Platinum were million sold that much I remember, there are games that sold multi millions and plenty that don't even have an exact number, I know it's nuts ...
For example games like Gran Turismo 4, Killzone, Silent Hill 2 and 3 were still printed in Europe and Russia as budget titles EVEN IN 2016! Square Enix had their library renewed latest in 2022, you could (I don't know if you can now) buy brand new Final Fantasy PS1 and PS2 games because they are still popular today. They were up on the official Square Enix shop website.
The last time I bought PS2 new games was in 2016 and 2017 as gifts to friends who had these games but lost access to it through the years ...
I skipped the 2022 buying craze due to my awful financial status and today I am pretty much broke completely ...
Now as for essentials, best of, etc I have no clue what they were based upon just know they are simple reprints due to demand on certain parts of the world / markets.
Hey there and greetings from Sweden! I have a couple videos on my channel of my gamingroom. I have about 651 games in total. Yea well gamecollecting in Sweden and that is a story of ita own. For example vi do NOT have Game, Gamestop anymore, nor Cex. Finding games in the wild here is extremely difficult. So online shopping is a must here.
Games are meant to be bought and collected no shame for bringing awareness to it. It's still kinda funny that nobody would have touched those before you made it popular 😅
What’s your achievement score on Nintendo that it’s worth buying hundreds of the games that went on Xbox PlayStation Steam that gives achievements and trophies 🏆 I buy what’s only on Nintendo or games that’s classic Pac-Man that you won’t be sick of playing
I have a few of these that I bought brand new back when the PS3 was still a current system on the market, and none of the ones I bought brand new have black and white manuals. They all have colour manuals that appear identical to the ones that are in the original first releases. I am guessing no list exists that details which ones came with different manuals? I can see why you're not fussed either way, I wouldn't be either.
Need to get with ed hunts when he goes over to Holland. One of his recent videos over there they had bloody loads

For everyone who has got the urge to start an essentials collection, like I did. Be aware of C.E.X and the disks they put in the boxes. I just bought 6 "Essentials", paid, opened the boxes and only 2 of them had essentials disks. Immediately went back to the counter to tell them that they had sold me the wrong item. Apparently their policy is no refunds and only a voucher back as the items aren't wrong, I just didn't want them. Awful company and customer service.
WWE 12 (WrestleMania Ed.) had a Platinum release that looks to be a UK release, maybe this is part of why the essentials version is so hard to find?
Good luck m8 let the force be with you and there is a sealed copy of lego the Hobbit on the bay at the moment you dont have this or if you do I never saw it 😊 oh and dead space 3 but thats sealed for £6 and stock pic so I dont think I would trust that one m8 but you never know

I don’t have many full sets, but a couple I’m proud of are my full PS4 sets from LRG and SLG. The former being over 400 titles now which is mental.

I've said before so sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I do absolutely agree with you that there has been a decline. I started passively collecting Essentials around a year ago or so and definitely noticed them becoming more scarce when you started 😅
The definitive list is what I'm looking forward to most from this because the one I've been using has about 260 games on it and I've heard so many different numbers over time 😂😂😂

I've never understood the obsession with "black label" over budget re-releases. Surely you want the latest most updated disc on your shelf?
Even before downloadable updates, later prints tended to have improvements and bug fixes.

I actively avoid them. Much prefer original prints where I can find them. It does look cool when they are all there together in a collection like that though. I would keep an eye out for you and pick em up if I see them which I do from time to time but even if I do it's 90 percent chance its one you already have. Could you reach out to Sony for a definitive list of essentials games. I know they are difficult to communicate with but you would think that they would have the information somewhere.

I will generally avoid Essentials, in favour or the original release, but if the price is right I'll go for it. But in like for like pricing, I prefer the "black label" versions . The PS3 'Plantinum' series though, with the silver cases & yellow colour, I find them to be a bit of an eyesore. I think I only have one in my collection, the 'Oblivion GOTY'. If I see a standard GOTY set (or the 5th Anniversary set) for a decent price, I'll double dip. But its low down the priority list, as realistically if I'm playing 'Oblivion' these days it will probably be on PC with mods. I'd be a lot less likely to double dip to swap out an 'Essentials' disc.
I think one thing people overlook with the Essentials/Platinum releases is the included game versions. It's likely that they will include the latest game patches on disc, rather than the v1.0 release. That alone probably makes them a more "future-proof" option, for whenever the update servers are retired. For those using the original release discs, they'll have to rely on third party sources for update files, vs simply having the updates (along with DLC etc) on the disc.

I am going for a complete pal n64 collection. The problem is that there are 4 Australian releases. So know i'm thinking if the Europian pal is also a complete set? For me its hard because cex in the Netherlands only have retro untill gamecube😅. So I need someone in the UK to trade for me or I have to go to the UK myself but that could be very expencive🙈
