Thank you for this. It reminds me of cooking with spices and stepping out of the recipe adding your own flavors. The longer you cook, the more you know your spices. What's missing and what'll fill that empty spot. Trying spoonfuls with the modifications before changing the whole pot.
One of my favorite combos is Eilish + Midnight Amber Glow from bath and body works. The coziest, warmer, spicy vanilla / cocoa / berry combo for fall and winter !!
Here are my 2cts, including a few of my fave combinations. I am a layering enthusiast! Mixologist, me 😅. I started doing it a few years back, I think start pandemic, for exactly the same reason: some fragrances missed something, or a note I wanted didn't come out on my skin. Or I thought it wasn't sweet enough etc. Not to mention to strengthen certain fragrances. I love thàt, but also to get my own unique stuff. Interestingly enough I get more compliments on my mixes than on just the one fragrance. I now have several perfumes I use standard for layering, but also simply combine perfumes that are already good scent wise and projection wise. I really don't mind mixing strong with strong - but I agree that you need to be careful things don't clash. I sort of feel like a Chef 👩🍳. I've always liked cooking, adapting recipes or coming up with my own things. It actually works very similar with fragrances. I work quite intuitive, but there is certainly a theory behind it. Similar notes in the pyramid works, but sometimes a spicy woody fragrance will actually benefit from vanilla or chocolate. I mean: chocolate and salt is yummy too. I wouldn't use "reminds me of" myself. If I did, I would get fragrances that are too similar, as you're getting dupes too. (Besides: Fragantica has pyramids that are wrong 50% of the time). I think what would help, is check the pyramid of the fragrance you would like to layer with and then use "Search by Notes", if you type in the notes - and f.e. bases - you would love to emphasise, you most likely get some good starting points. Here are a few of my faves, with explanation > La Belle Le Parfum + Lost Cherry. Trust me, you won't find them in the same list. But they're damn good together. LBLP has this unexplainable booziness that LC has a well. Those match and the cherry sweetens the pear and is great with the praline. Btw, La Belle Le Parfum is also great with L'interdit Rouge! Love Chopard + Pure Honey by Kim K. Pure Honey has rose, ( but I don't get it). The roses in Love-Ch match. Love also has jasmine and vanilla, which is sweet. Honey is too and they go well together. PH has, on me, a strong beeswax, giving it an extra oomph, making it heavier and sexier. Result: Sultry, sexy rose-beeswax/Honey. Club de Nuit Intense Woman by Lattafa + Velvet Rose by Lattafa or Into the Night BBW. Amps up the Rose and makes it more feminine (the bbw does so and freshens it), tones down the spiciness and oudh. Lattafa Pride Nebras (or Billy Eilish Eilish) + Qaed Al Fursan Unlimited (or sth else that's mostly creamy and fruity). Result: creamy chocolaty berries. Nebras is also great with Afnan Modest Deux Pour Femme or Tresor La Nuit. La Rive River of Love - Angel dupe - mixed with Police Shock-in-Scent. It amps up the honey and makes this an intoxicating and stronger combo. My biggest layering is probably: Dark Kiss BBW bodylotion (Winterberry Wonder might work too) + MFK Grand Soir (I use the Fragrance World dupe) + Euphoria + Lalique Amethyst. Sometimes I even add Winterberry or the Dark Kiss mist on top, but it isn't necessary if you've used the lotion already. Grand Soir gives Euphoria the amber base I feel it needs and the lotion makes sure it sticks + that I already have Dark fruit on my skin. Amethyst is an extra on the blackcurrant, making sure Euphoria isn't lost due to the strength of the amber fragrance. NB. I could have used Ambre Nuit by Dior, also strong on the amber. But it isn't a good match as it is an amber FLORAL and I'm emphasising the edibles. Thus I chose an Amber Vanilla. This combination isn't for the faint at heart, nor for those who do not have real cold days. I love heavy fragrances and I have dry perfume eating skin too. If your skin easily projects the average edp of today then maybe skip the Lalique and use a non perfumed lotion. And, be careful with the Grand Soir (dupe). It is strong. Okay, these are several of my loved combinations. I have plenty more and come up with new ones constantly. F.e. I just bought Devil's Food by The Fragrance Library (Demeter Fragrances in the US) and this smells like Lava Cake or a dark chocolate muffin with gooey chocolate pieces. I'm pretty sure that's going to be phenomenal with some other gourmands. Or with a linear berry scent like Amethyst by Lalique. Think what you would like to eat together and it works for gourmands. From there it'll become easier to work with florals and such. Have fun!!
I love this comment. I love layering too. I used to use the “reminds me of” method years ago when I first started layering and I still will if I’m looking to simply amplify that profile but most of the time I’m wanting to create a custom scent. I took screenshots of the ones you recommended so I can try!
Really appreciate your video. But i still don't know how to actually, physically layer. As in where to apply the two scents that i decide to layer. Spray on top of each other? Spray adjacent? Different on each arm? I'm realy confused about this in particular. Thanks.
When I layer, I spray one on top of the other. You might have to play around with which one to spray first, but I generally start with the stronger of the two scents and layer the lighter one on top. Or if using a perfume and a body mist, the perfume will go first.
By the Fireplace is a great layering perfume! I think that smokiness really helps to make a lot of perfumes cozy! I rarely wear it by itself. I love to layer it with Midnight Fleur by Nest. It creates such a beautiful, mysterious forest fairy vibe that I absolutely love.
I layered OG Alien Mugler edt with zara violet blossom and Boom! It was so intoxicating... Zara VB added some smoothness alien lacks and rounded it off so well that everyone was asking what I'm wearing! Give it a try❤
Trying scents together...smelling the bottles together, spray them on paper first? Do you spray perfumes right on top of each other or spray neck with one and elbows with another? Adding single notes, use an oil of that note? The number of sprays makes a difference in how much of that you smell, right? So if you wanted just a little more something would you do one spray of that and then spray the main scent as usual? Spray it in the air and walk through?
Very happy to see this! The first video that I watched from you was making your scents last longer, and I’ve been waiting for this! Thank you for the tips. 😊
I got tobacco vanilla last year and realized very fast it's wayyyyy too strong for me. Then I found the perfect combo!! Two sprays of TF with good girl AAAAMAZING
I found my bottle of that a couple of days ago.....got it last year, and was kind of 'meh' about it; too gourmand to me! Anyway, I'm obsessed with it now, and noticed it smells a lot like that other one from last winter, 'Iced Sugar Plum'. They both have that graham cracker crust smell, IMO!
@@sarahannsmith3129 especially layered with other ones that could use a bit of a sweet vanilla kick like black opium , just about any of my juicy couture,, and so many more😋
I have 2 fav layering combos.....one is the johnson & johnson cotton touch body wash and lotion finished with kenzo flower perfume. It is like powder fresh heaven. The second one is dove shea and vanilla bar soap followed by palmers cocoa butter lotion then choco musk which is absolute deliciousness.
this video inspired me to mix some of my oils today-nemat vanilla musk, Al-rehab Choco musk, and Byredo Bal d’Afrique! Surprisingly amazing. I think it’s the common musk note 🤔😍
I would love to see a video based an a specific base note and what your favorites are. I’m new to fragrances and learning some base notes are a deal breaker for me. Especially if it’s very dominant in a fragrance.
I love to layer I have about 140 mists and 30 perfumes . I would like to have more perfumes but I've been focusing on using what I have. I try to not over power it but using up sprays and a little perfume helps.
I try out layering by sniffing from the bottle(s)/container(s) first, whether it's layering perfumes, body sprays, and/or lotions and creams, etc. And changing which would go on top by sniffing that one first. Recently I layered VS very sexy night with MIX:BAR whipped almond, unlikely combo, but I loved it! To make it more fresh I spray MB WA first, or more gourmaund the VS VSN first. I believe you don't necessarily have to put the fragrances on to find good combos💕
Yesterday my package arrived and i tried for the first time Beyonce heat seduction and it was too spicy. When i saw your video i tried it with zara black amber cause it was too sweet for me. Now i can wear them and no waste. Thank ya🥰
I recently started layering & the main reason I started was because I had blind-bought a perfume that I ended up not loving, but I wanted to see if mixing it could make it work & it did 😄

out of all the perfume layering videos i've seen on youtube, this is the BEST one. i love how you really go in-depth with the fragrance profiles, the step by step process, and tips on what goes well together, thanks so much! 💕 my current favorite layering combo is using a light vanilla and sweet almond body oil (that smells feminine sweet) with couture couture by juicy couture (on my arms) and moonlight by ariana grande (behind my knees)! ❤

Can i layer Ellish No 1 with hypnotic vanilla by zara so the vanilla doesn't go away.? I just got ellish and love SO much the middle and top notes but realized the base at the end not so much since gourmand notes are kind of gone i want to prolongue the gourmandish feel to it. At the end im feeling too musky or ambery. I want the gourmand feel to stay till the end
