I got sick in Chiang Mai after a jungle treck where we were encouraged to drink out of a vine and the guides prepared jungle food and panicked; anxiety attacks etc...my travel 'companions' abandoned me and went off for a few days leaving me in a hotel where no-one spoke a word of english.I had no money and no travel documents which my 'friends' took to make sure I did not try to arrange for my transport back to Bangkok.. I was not as sick as you but the thought of being 11,000 kms from home (Switzerland) was very destabilizing. I was almost phobic for the next month in terms of eating and stuck to soups and horrible bottle 7/11 water which tasted very Chernobylian. I hope that you nonetheless enjoyed your travels in Thailand. I lost about ten kilos after the dysentery and then eating very little and was able to win some skyscraper races (running up 80 floor buildings in Bangkok) and running half marathons with a great French girl I hooked upon with who is a marathon champion in an elite anti terrorist force in the army. The lesson I retained from my experiences is not only to be careful what you eat but also make sure to travel with trustworthy decent companions. I also travelled down the Meykong river and do all kinds of amazing things so I don't regret my trip for one second....traveleing to Thailand , Myanmar and Laos was a life defining experience for me...and a crash diet ha ha :)
