    Thanks for the tutorial. You might want to advise viewers to put a soft cloth on and under the bike. It left a visible chip in the top tube paint when you popped off the top headset.

      the paint chip was already there. You just didn't see it earlier due to the angle. But good advise nonetheless

    Man, so easy, I thought it was very difficult. Now I have confidence to DIY without having to worry about whether I will damage my expensive Litespeed Ultimate frame. Thank you!

    What about removing the star bolt first

    I saw my local bike shop mechanic force in my headset completely misaligned. That was even using a proper parktool press which I thought was supposed to prevent that happening. Obviously not. He just said it will be fine. Everything seems ok but I thought pressing a cup in wonky could risk headtube damage?

      If it set flat in the end then it will be ok on a aluminum frame. But not ideal for sure

      @@RunBikeMike It was a titanium frame. I imagine that is a stronger metal than aluminium too!

      Nagtitipid yung mekaniko walang pambili ng proper tool for bike headset 😀

      anyone that tells you 'it will be fine' means they want you to go away. on a titanium frame bike of high$$$ i'd call bullshit and make him repress

    Regarding that home made tool what if you add another nut on top of the washers in order to keep it center? Would that work? I wanna overhaul mine I don't think I need it but I just want to do it I don't know why

    Crazy question im sure, Can i clean and repack these bearings without removing them from the headset?

    • @RunBikeMike
      @RunBikeMike  5 місяців тому

      Yes if they are loose bearings.

    how many ball bearing is should i used in a traditional headset that has 25.4mm fork diameter? Is it 20pcs or 16pcs ball bearing?

    • @RunBikeMike
      @RunBikeMike  2 роки тому

      Most of the time you will find for that size 16pcs. However I am of the mindset that if you can get more it will help spread the load over each bearing. And that is a good thing.

      @@RunBikeMike wow thank you, I'm not so sure. Because their is also 22.2mm . I thought that 16 ball bearing was for 22.2mm while 20 ball bearing was for 25.4mm. but now, thank you for your help, I bought the correct one online :)

      Old style headsets are good in their own way: very reusable. Now, the ones where you need a pair of headset wrenches to lock the headset in place: different PITA. I’m glad we moved on from them. And loose bearings from all the good manufacturers
