- A session on a cold winters day fishing the river on the feeder. I go over my simple groundbait mix for fishing the feeder and tackle and rigs i use. Far from perfect conditions but a few fish on the bank.

Nice mixed bag on a tough day.
cheers mark, was a horrible day weather wise , dont think i mentioned it on the video but did not feel 100 percent was full of a cold. Enjoyed the session though and hoping do some mroe feeder fishing this week
Dannys Angling Blog you did look cold in the first shot
was cold like one of those days you think must be mad especially when rain started pelting down
Great video I love it when that tip bangs around love feeder fishing what are your thoughts on the method in the river for big chub and barbel on the dane
cheers neptune, very very interesting is my thoughts lol, its somthing i have never thought about to be honest but with how aggressive they feed bits would be god. I think would have to pick your swim with less flow or run the risk of your pellets being miles away from your rig with a 4 inch hook link.
i think if i was to go down this route then i would use the martin bowler trick with tape on the maggot feeder and a tiny hook link.
a traditional method feeder would be a rig i doubt many weould have seen though so will have an edge, got me thinking ;-)
NEW TO THE CHANNEL DAN ! GOOD STUFF MATE !
nice fish m8
cheers matey ;-)
Can you do a dead bait set up review
hi tommy, i am off all this next week hoping to do some piking in what regards do you mean my tackle box? or the make of rods and set up? in an upcoming video i cover the terminal tackle i take i.e the bits a pieces i take to the bank every session.
Tackle box and rods if you can do that thanks
Danny do you clip up on a river?
Another great vid mate!... but... the question has to be asked... are you getting back on the Pike scene next week?
I had a pike video and sat down to edit it but it was another session on the mere so thought it best break it up a bit. Got full week of this week, the river is still a bit high but im hoping and praying for a dry week, if so should be some pike blogs!!
Top man!... Just a suggestion... maybe if the rivers are up, then get the lure rod out and hit the lakes?... but whatever get up to good luck!
was thinking about this post yesterday when recording a pike video, theres a nice clip on the blogs facebook page yesterday, i got lure ord out with this post in back head, 3rd cast snagged bottom bot lure back and the snag with another lure attached, caught more lures than i have pike lure fishing :-)
Keep the faith with lures mate... I PROMISE you lures catch big Pike. Personally I've found a balance between depth/ speed of retrieve and lure choice... but again... I have seen and caught too many big Pike now to allow me to have total faith in lures.
Where were you fishing? Ta.
Great vid again. interested to know why your'e not someone who uses the feeder often? # float fishing love ??
I was brought up fishing the local canal on the whip and waggler, few vids planned this spring summer, once my dad took me the river i did start on the feeder but soon as i learnt the float i just find it more active, sometimes on the feeder looking up at that sky i find you almost nod off lol , really should do more of it
Dannys Angling Blog i thought as much. I know exactly what you mean. There is nothing quite like float fishing especially with light tackle. 👍
Do ya know what else it is Danny, its understanding why your fishing. The balance between pleasure and result driven angling. When you are primarily a pleasure angler the balance is toward your preferred method of fishing, obviously you still want results but you need to enjoy the way you do it. I've never fished a pole and I cant imagine I ever will, i know that in certain situations it will yield a better net but I just love the interaction between rod and reel and I cant get away from that.... because i'm pleasure angler at heart :-)
fantastic post!! nail on the head PBL,
Your post does remind me of a time i got my bonus in work and went into Daves of middlewich, can i have a drennan acolyte float rod please and a MAP 101 13m pole. She just looked at me and said you have baffled me there you have just come in and and bought a top of the range rod and a bottom of the range pole...
my reply...."simple, that rod will be looked after and used every week i can on the rivers doing what i love, where as, the pole will be used for a few months in spring and summer and will not see the light prob till the next one"
i love all the fishing i do and the challenges that come with different seasons but fish a rod and reel takes me back to those cold days on the canal with my dad.
lovely post mate took me right back ;-)
Exactly!
Ya know what i was absolutely bonkers about fishing as a kid. i would get 3 buses or pile my stuff on my bike etc to be first on the lake or canal. I would go to bed visualising the float going under. I was obsessed. Then as i got older and had my kids it went on the back burner and i stopped fishing altogether for a good while. It was actually my kids asking about the equipment in the shed that has got us all out together and they lit the blue touch paper again, and i'm so grateful to them for that.
I know this is a bit long winded but the reason I made that post about pleasure angling is because having spent a while out and then coming back, i realised that the fishing world had changed immeasurably. Its now huge huge business! Its so technical with so much specialist equipment and i remember thinking 'crikey' where has all the fun gone?
I think its so easy for anglers to get drawn into the hype of I need this reel or rod, or I have to use this tactic with that tackle etc etc to catch fish, and the reality is if you're a pleasure angler you just have to do what you enjoy.
Probably like yourself, when i was that obsessed angler, i used to keep a catch report of my sessions. I would write up details of the weather, where i fished, method, bait etc and what i caught, for reference.
The irony is, that by recording that information, i realised overwhelmingly, that my best sessions came from the most basic float fishing with natural baits, more often than not on the end of my rod, which just happens to be the type of fishing i enjoy the most.
I didn't fish with my dad, but when i was a kid, i used to talk to, and watch the old guys on the bank who were catching for fun with the simplest of methods, and that's what i learnt from them, and i think when you realise that as a pleasure angler, it never leaves you!
why not more feeder fishing Dan ?
River wise its just not somthing i do very often but i should do more, over last year there was a bit of feeder fishing in summer on the method feeder for carp. But yeah nromal feeder fishing there is not much of, got some plans once rivers close for some feeder fising for roach so that should be on channel if all goes to plan shortly
What was the dark mix bud? Was it some kind of soil?
molehill soil, simply went out on one f the dry days in the week ith bucket and riddle and riddled a few molehills, as long as its still dampish its ok, once it dries out you lose the binding and weight properties quite a bit
Never heard of that being used before. That's the thing I love about fishing, regardless of level you can always learn something new off another angler. Cheers
No problem at all matey bulks out the mix and if using on the bolo it adds weight and also darkens the mix. In winter i use it dilute the mix to reduce the feed content of each feeder ful, bonus is also when mixed 50/50 half you mix is free. ;-)
what its all about mate sharing info and helping others ;-)
Awesome Danny,my pike season has only a few weeks left then it's on to carpy gear so I'll give it a bash for the silvers. Top Man,cheers buddy 👍
yeah mate not long left now sadly of the piking, all signs are there now, pike are feeding hard and fat and the hedgerows full of snowdrops and daffodils, end is night :-(
best of luck with the carp fishing mate and silver
