    Radiated and Indian stars are one of my bucket list animals, however living in canada makes things tough being it hits -30ºC here every winter. Maybe some day there will be a way. Thanks for the awesome video :)

    Saying that we must help people first is always my favorite part of your videos. I agree. Poverty affects rare, valuable, endangered animals in part because the people who share the animals' homes are just as desperate and in need of help.

      Not really, you can give all the money in the world to 3rd world nations and their people will waste it. Europe has been under extreme poverty and constant war many times and always recovers. Masa musa the African king used up his immense amounts of money in no time.

    Awesome show!!! Can you please do a Russian tortoise video. I have 7 up in New York and I keep them outdoors throughout the spring summer and fall. I want to hibernate and keep them outdoors all year long. I heard many people here in NY do it. Your input would be helpful. Thank you! Silvio

    Hmm I was hopping you would put out a vid. So I could ask you why my baby tortoise was not pooping. But I just looked and he did. So is it normal for them to only poop like ones a week? Or should I still be concerned.

    Hi Kenan,
    I have 2 Map Turtles, 3-4 inches in length and a large Malasian Box Turtle. They are amazing and funny and I love them dearly. My question is would it be safe for my mighty Maps would be safe in the same environment as my Box Turtle? I am seeing that all of my turtles need bigger spaces but I live in small space. If they could all be housed together it would solve the space problem.

    • @iseslc

      +Solsuiop You should! Baby tortoises are too fragile to be in an outdoor enclosure. It is recommended that they don't hibernate their first winter.

    Hey Kenan, I am a tortoise lover and a big fan of you. One thing I want to correct, the Chinese do not eat the radiated tortoises. They treat them as pets because they are beautiful and easy to take care of. People use local turtle (Mauremys reevesii) shells for medical or food purpose, which apparently are much much cheaper.

  • @michaeljaguar1576
    @michaeljaguar1576 5 років тому

    Excellent and very educational video Kevin! The human/nature connection is the most crucial part of conservation, that folks need to be aware of. Help the humans and the animals will thrive!
    And something must be done to educate the rich in China not to eat or use rare animals for medicine!
    Keep up the inspiring work brother! Subscribed!

    Hey Kenan, when you picked up the Radiated Tortoise I heard a hiss/heavy breathing sound. Was that coming from the Tortoise or was it just the microphone having issues? If it was the tortoise, can all tortoises make sounds like that?

    • @gates754
      @gates754 8 років тому +7

      +Spirit W It's not really a hiss. When they retract their heads quickly it compresses the lungs causing them to exhale rapidly. Most torts make that sound to a degree.

    • @dhruvesh66
      @dhruvesh66 7 років тому

      i own Indian star tortoise too. Its very important for them. It helps them in shell strength. they get vitamins thg sunlight other than that they are cold blooded animal. Which means they seek heat and sunlight is best option. I usually take my tortoise outside for half hour to 1 hour before 5 pm and believe me he enjoyed a lot. He spreads legs around see towards sun with his neck all out to absorb heat. try it. if you need any other help let me know..

    What do you think about keeping a tortoise in New Orleans? Do they prefer to be solitary or in groups? I had one as a child which I posted about in another of your videos. In regards to the pyramiding in the shell - is that the way it's supposed to be? I thought that pyramiding was an indication that they weren't getting enough vitamin D / sunlight? That's what I was told about my sulcata when I was younger. Thanks! Love the videos.
    Also - what do you think about the personality of different tortoises? Scientists are finally starting to recognize and study different characteristics of animals relating to affection. In lizards they've discovered that the monitor lizards actually exhibit affection / higher emotional intelligence when the general scientific consensus has always been that reptiles don't care about any interaction with people. What are your thoughts? Do you think any breeds of tortoise care about us?
