    60 acres at entrance of farm North. 100 acres rolling hills, steep towards back, creek with rolling water in middle to south. Forest surround south east and west. Would you plant plots as far north as possible in the open section or wood line of fields?

    All relative to location. Ks, Mo,Iowa, I've killed more giants bedding in little ditches or patches with numerous does and little bucks bedding around them, Its the cover they have.

      Oh for sure...those are the coolest and easiest areas to hunt! And manage. When there is a total lack of cover you know where they are at. In those fantasy land states pressure doesn't matter as much either so hunting strategy becomes a little less needed. Very different locations compared to most any other whitetail state. I actually like working in those areas because folks can get away with more while hunting. Habitat features, hunting practices...everything.

    So i just had a consult from your mi rep. This video now has me 2nd guessing a ecommended kill plot. Imagine a 20 acre square. Mature maple grives in n.e & n.w corners (theses are being cleared for main food plots. Total 1.4 acres combined) now the sout half is thick brush, honey suckle, crab apple etc. It looks like potential buck bedding. It was recommended to put a kill plot < 1/4 acre in s.w. corner. There is open ag just 20yds south of recommended kill plot. Have not implimented it yet, now questioning if i should?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 місяців тому

      That actually sounds perfect! The ag creates a no buck bedding area anyways, and the kill plot ends up being a great pass thru either during the morning hours for a buck looking for a doe...or as a pass thru at night before deer head to ag.

    Using these practices right now on a former junkyard, saw results the few days after I did my hinges and bedding cuts, I have the neighborhood does and bucks because of the position of the land, best part? It's a ONE acre parcel, one acre and I have results. These videos are greatly appreciated!

    Great info for my setup. I've now got access to neighboring Ag property with a few small 1/2 - 1 acre tree plots scattered around. I'm hoping by having a small food plot and water source with some surrounding cover ill be able to have the bucks bed in those scattered plots and come to my property for food essentially.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 місяців тому +1

      As long as the AG or food plots aren't right next to the potential buck bedding areas, you should be good!

    • @Official1616Club
      @Official1616Club 5 місяців тому +1

      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thats the plan. The places I have seen bucks has been almost across the AG or down the treeline a few hundred yards tucked away in a back corner that doesn't get much noise or human disturbance. With My property being closer to the areas that are more frequently disturbed so to speak I figure I can get them either at dawn or dusk coming back from feeding at the farmers grain silos on a small pass threw food plot in between. With me only being 10 acres im not really big enough to hold as much deer as id like so im working with the pass through method of small food plot and water hole with some good cover in between the major feeding areas and the bedding tucked away behind the AG.

    If your hinge cut trees die, do you leave them or do you recommend stump cutting

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 місяців тому

      It depends on what is coming up around them? They rarely die unless the wrong tree is cut (asp n, conifer, etc) or someone failed to get sun down to the cuttings.

    Animal activity in food areas attracts predator attention, makes sense the cautious buck beds a ways back from that. I would bed back in a quiet dense area too if predators were chasing me.

    While I always appreciate the information that you put out. This one confuses me. I thought that you mentioned in past videos. That deer will shift their range depending on seasonal food and cover. Are you saying that buck's bed year-round in the same areas? I hunt in the Pa big woods so maybe it's different.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 місяців тому +1

      This is one of my tried and true original concepts from over 20 years ago, meaning bucks don't bed near their food. Does do tho. So once you figure out where the main afternoon food source is on public or private land...then you know does will bed nearby. Once you know where food is, then does...then you will find buck bedding. On public land that distance from food to buck bedding may be a 1/2 mile or more and in most private land settings with a little at thrown in it will fall between 300 and 500 yards. If you are on private land and add food where bucks bed, then you can throw that bedding area out the window.
      On private you can't fragment your land with too much food. You have to have depth of cover...food, does and th n bucks. If you add food where bucks bed...they will leave.
      I hope that makes sense...it's a very black and white, highly proven concept that works on public or private land.
      As far as when they bed in a given area ..Fall is all that matters.

      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Once again... Thanks for all the help with the info at hand. I agree that Fall/Winter is when we hunt and those are probably the only deer patterns that matter to us. And maybe you have or maybe you haven't. But that would be great subject material for a video. The bedding areas and why during those seasons. 🙂

    So i have 21 acres. Food is up front. I have about 2 acres of food. I have a north facing hill with a bench system and it has alot of autum olive and some briar. It is fairly thick. Now the hill side in the back of my property is a south facing hill and has alot lf sappling. It is fairly thick as well it just does t have the side cover. There is about 3 acres of pine. Then u get to the back were there is about 3 acres of small thick sapling. So wich hill would u improve for buck bedding. Now last yr was our 1st yr hunting and we saw more bucks than does

      To daddylee, it’s built in - social structure- if you’ve ever seen a mamma doe kick out her yearling buck, you know that he never forgets. Matriarchal does control their family’s space, especially feeding areas.

      @@daddylee4216I moved to the edge of the suburbs and country a few years back. I have 15/20 deer come into my yards every evening to eat corn my neighbor puts out. The doe do aggressively push the young bucks away. And the bucks are never seen with them in daylight except a few days during the rut. The 1.5 yr bucks get very aggressive with fawns coming close. I know this is suburban deer but it just shows how different they are and how bucks need space. The doe/ fawn family group also seems very cliquey. Like high school girls. It’s fun to watch daily how these deer are interacting.

      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 місяців тому +1

      Most that have lots of food plots destroy their hunt and don't hold the bucks. The vast majority. You want your plots to be daylight, and theirs to be nighttime.

    • @illegalclown
      @illegalclown 5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah. I'm in the middle of a bunch of long narrow lots, surrounded by sub divisions and ag land beyond that. For the most part my land has just been a pass through area for deer. From what I can tell the big doe family group beds on one of the neighbors to the west. I've seen as many as seven come onto my property at dawn from an old ATV trail I call the Clown Car. That leads down a path to the food plot. The mature bucks tend to bed to the north east. It's more secluded as the path is overgrown and rutted out. It leads to a broken bridge over a creek and to a wooded lot. I thought about trying to improve my northern edge to try to hold more bucks, since it's further away from the food plot but I think I would be best to set up a blind that overlooks that path and catch them going to and from that neighbor's lot.

    You, your team, and family seem like good people. Who are helping to promote hunting and the outdoors. Do yourself a favor and check out the Ohiopyle State Park Area. Its over 35 square miles with hunting allowed during the seasons. There are cabins, yurts, and camping in the campground. Which is open until late December. And it is adjacent to State Game Lands 51. Which encompasses over 26 square miles. Now that's a lot of land to hunt. Over 60 miles combined. It is all along the Youghiogheny River. Which has the Great Allegheny Bike Trail running along it for access to hunting and fishing as well. I am sure there are giants running around that have never been seen by a person before. 😁😁
