GIRL YOU ROCK!!! You really show just how much WE AS WOMEN CAN DO ON OUR OWN!!! There is such a stigma that is attached to that sort of job and that it’s not a woman’s place to do it...which I have ALWAYS SAID ITS BS and TY for showing so many that not only can it be done but it can also look AMAZING and you can decorate it as well as design it all on your own💪🏻💪🏻

The DIY Workshops at Home Depot gave me a hands-on introduction to power tools. That is how I got started.

Do you have a video showing the first time you painted the fireplace? I'd love to see which kind of paint you used and how you went about sanding it.
Very impressive that you did all this yourself! I can’t wait to see how the whole room comes together. The only things I would have done differently are using a pre-stain conditioner to prevent any unevenness/blotchiness, and extend the front piece of the mantle over the end grain on the two side pieces. Looks great!

I love this video, watched like 20 times, dreaming. I want to do shelving and cabinets beside my fireplace because we are just too unorganized to not do it. Son is autistic and craving organization. Your fireplace build has made this possible and not look weird with our ugly 90s built mantle. I did run into problems like... my fireplace isn't center with my vaulted ceiling.. thanks so much starter home builders! So forgot the v shaped shiplap and went almost exactly with your design. I love your videos and cannot thank you enough. It's also simple enough to look good with busy shelving beside it. Ah, perfect!
Also my parents are mvps because I have had to "slow drill" so much of this while watching the camera to make sure my son didn't wake up. Lol. He thinks the drill is tryin to kill me. They watched him so I could use the nail gun for shiplap. Anyways, you are inspirational. Awesome

This looks fabulous. I will definitely be showing this to my husband so we can redo our fireplace. I think the only thing I will do different is cut the mantle pieces at a 45 degree angle so I don't see the end pieces as much. Great work!

Amazing work!!..i wanna do something similar...2 questions. it seems as though you used no glue at all for the vertical pieces nor the shiplap...are the nails alone really sufficient? and how does the mantle secure to the back mount?

Very nice. I'm planning my own modern mantel makeover and got some good tips. The only thing I would have done differently is to butt the end pieces of the shelf into the back of the front piece rather than butt the front piece into the sides of the end pieces, thus avoiding the darkness of the stained end grain of the end pieces. Better yet would have been to miter those corners.
Looks great! Mixing the two stain colors turned out to be a perfect color! Only thing I noticed that I would do different was the ends of the mantle. The 1x8 face should have went the full length across so that the end grain of the end boards wasn't showing darker when stained. Other than that great job 👍👏👏

Helpful tip when staining wood, if you use wood conditioner first and then apply stain, you will have way less to little blotches from the stain. It applies same as stain very easy, and same price as stain. :)
