Pete, I wonder if you might do a video on testing electronics. I tend to shy away from electronics for that reason. Im not sure how to fully test them outside of flipping it on and seeing it light up. Thanks for your tips and strategies

i would really appreciate videos like this as well. I've recently found a few DVD recorders with excellent comps(only tested if they turn on and off at the thrift) and it would be great to get your extensive knowledge on the testing as well as the cleaning and also when to list as refurbished or pre-owned.

This is interesting to me as I give ours and others stuff to Goodwill's instead of pawn, not only for the charities that receive from their sales, but also so those that may not be able to afford something so nice have the opportunity. I understand you are running a business, that often uses others desperation and I get you are also trying to make a $ and other people aren't your job. ( Each to their own, I think it is said?). The electronics you find are way cheaper than at the Goodwill stores in St. Louis, MO. The vhs dvd players here are more like $15 - $25. I never want to risk buying them because I don't know how to test them or know what condition they are in.
Blaster Mods Anytime I purchased something, they let me test it right there. The only time I did not have a power cord (an electric keyboard for $15) they sold it to me $10 off. At a pawn shop I got an MXL mic for $55, but asked to test it, and thankfully did so because the cord it had did not work. Dude went in back, to a pile of cords, and got another, which did work. Just ask to try it, and if it does not have a cord, ask if they keep them, if they do not look or cannot find it, ask for a huge discount.
Most Goodwills have a return policy. But you have to be quick. I think my local Goodwills give 72 hours. As for testing, you can either do it in the store to at least check for power then check further when you get home. I've never been in a Goodwill that doesn't have a table with a power strip for checking/testing. At home I have a more advanced testing station, with a tv, some vcr tapes, a microphone dvds, games, cassettes and even recordable VCR tapes and cassettes for testing. You can get your testing stuff cheap at yard sales.

carry on bag would do best at auction I think, you might get way more than you think if they're that expensive in the beginning.

I've had offers from $10-$20 and one guy even ripped me saying "Anyone can find them all over the place for $10" I know re-sellers are getting $30-$60. I'm mystified why people think my asking price is too high ($40)
Laura Baumeister i put mine at auction (starting with 20$s) for 10 days, start auction for 10pm. Put the remote on top of the dvd vhs device. See if that moves.

Dom J i use ebay usually for smaller items and for bulky items i use letgo offer up and occasionally craigslist. More eyes more sales.

Electronics at our thrifts are between $25 and $50 most times. Remotes are $5. So frustrating.

Those type of stores actually do their research, if u go to older towns with 10-25k population, you are bound to find some good finds
Goodwill is a total ripoff nowadays. Not worth going there for much anymore
$5 are big enough to be useful and small enough that no one looks at them too hard.

You can tell instantly looking at that $5 bill that it's fake, the front is not lined up properly. The border around the design is supposed to be exactly the same all the way around and on the left side it's twice as wide as the right side
Unfortunately almost all the thrift stores in my area have someone who checks priced on eBay/Amazon before putting them out.
It's a great are too economically wise (Southwest FL - God's waiting room) and there are always great barely used items, mostly clothing - men's suits, ties, dress shoes. Women's handbags, dresses, lounge/ cruise wear, shoes, etc.. Plus lot's of vintage clothing.
Also lots of beach gear, like wet suits for $10.
Any ideas on how to get better prices or better places to go? Any info would be be much appreciated. Thank you!

Jeannie McCap : Obviously they aren't checking everything. A wetsuit for $10? If it is in good condition that would go for a nice chunk of change in my area (Pacific Northwest). Reframe your attitude, too. If you think there isn't anything good, you are missing what is in front of your face!
Can somebody explain to me why Ebay auction bids have gone away? I put things up for auction starting at 1.99 and get one bid, not 2-3-4 bids but one bid. I notice that other sellers get the same. Is the Auction going away?
Yes. I list everything by Fixed Price now. Looks like Pete mostly does, too. Most people want to make a buying decision right now and get shipping underway. They don't want to wait for 7 days to get a "No Sale."

Because most households still have memories on vhs tapes, and dvd's. I actually went to a thriftstore specifically for a vcr and bought 2 for 5$ each after cleaning up and getting rid of junk cause I ran across some old vhs tapes from when i was a kid, old memories..... i did convert everything to digital and have no use for the vcr anymore and was planning on taking them back to thrifty, but on second thought ima list them on ebay........

Think very very few ppl will ever fake 1s or 5s. cause its not worth it. but really. it could be worth it. since 1s and 5s hardly ever get checked. I know recently, some places are checking not only 20s but 10 dollar bills now.

Wow, that bird was serious about you touching that screwdriver. Gotta admit, I jumped then had a laugh, but the bird wasn't playing . Now, that bird has nothing to do but wait for an opportunity for pay back ;-). Now, checking my five dollar bills, out of the four bills I have, three have the same serial number, so I guess the bill with a different number is fake right ? ;-) . Years ago while on the PD, a laundry mat called to complain someone was using fake money to rob the money changer, where folks get change for the machines. Some of the money was so bad it was hard to figure out the denomination. The officer used a green magic marker and scribbled across the paper, and the machine still kicked out the correct change. Finally we just put a blank piece of paper in and sure enough it worked. Duh, time to shut it down and call the company.

$5's are the most popular bill to counterfeit, bigger bills are actually less popular because everybody suspects them to be counterfeit. There are a lot more counterfeit 5's 10's and 20's than 50's and 100's

That's Xerox money 1/8 " smaller in diameter. All Xerox machines have a program in them they will not print the exact size of money .something most people don't know
Color laser also prints out the serial number of the printer and date printed. If you know how to find them. Its there in most color laser printers.
That thrift shop must not Google their higher end items because yes, you could easily get $60 or more for them even though they're butt ugly in MY eyes.🥰 And even 5 years ago the square toes weren't in style. Who cares anymore anyway right? People wear white pants all year around where you would never be caught dead with them on in winter. Same goes for tennis shoes, summer only. Good Thrift item.
What are your thoughts about the announcement by EBAY to move away from PayPal to something called Adyen? Just getting back into selling and I saw that announcement. It *sounds* like it will be better for sellers but want to see what you think.
Unnecessary, and, as usual, eBay didn't ask any of us what we want. Nobody I know had ever heard of Adyen. Like I say, all of my OTHER businesses are using PayPal and I am not going to change those.
