I also have a subaru so this video is very helpful thanks
Nicely done! This is helpful to me as I'm planning to do something very similar on my Toyota Tacoma with a Diamond or Comet lip mount Thank you!
Glad you found it helpful; good luck on your build!
Great video! Thx
Very helpful
Bit confusing when it came to trim/not trim the aluminum protection plate. Did you think it was beneficial to trim the ends of the plate or just leave it and screw all 4 set screws into the plate itself?
Yes, I would trim the bottom reinforcement plate as the directions suggest. Otherwise, when you tighten the outer set screws, they will embed into the aluminum plate instead of the hood of the car, preventing a good ground.
Would it be better to mount in the middle as in further towards the front of the car?
I think that might obstruct your vision. If you look at most (old school) radio antennas on cars, this is basically where they are, or even closer to the sideview mirror.
Why on earth did you mount the antenna on the hood? And why run the coax through a hot engine bay?
Is it bad to run it on the hood? WHy does the coax care about the temperature
Actually I was also thinking the front part of the hood as a good option. When the car is stationed opening the hood up makes its front edge the highest part of the car, so yeah...
Because it seemed like the easiest way. I didn't feel like routing a coax cable from my tailgate all the way to the front of the car. Going through the clutch gusset seemed much easier. I take your point about the engine getting hot, but the cable is fairly secured. Nothing bad has happened so far.
@@BigAl11235 I also have mine routed through the hood and it works perfectly and my SWR is great.
what kind of speaker /mic is that?
It's the Yaesu FT-270R and YSU-MH-73A4B
