Thank for this video....your son is adorable. I have been told to avoid forward bends due to possibility of compression fractures. I do not have osteoporosis but many women develop these fractures . I wonder about the downward dog...can do but unsure.
Loved your video and thanks to your son for my "on the floor" laughing spell! Hilarious! I've been doing these exercises for about 8 years now, after a girlfriend of mine bought me the paperback book as a gift, that I'm so grateful to have!. For a beginner you start with 2 or 3 times each and add 2 or 3 more times each week (whatever you're comfortable with), working your way up to 21 each. Also, as you mention Tim, but I want to repeat..........BREATHING IS VERY IMPORTANT AND MAKES THEM EASIER TO DO. No one knows my age, but when they find out I have 3 precious granddaughters who are now going to college, they GASP! I came across this video as I was looking for one to send to my daughter and found yours with a bonus. The bonus being those easier modifications for some of the exercises. A few years back I developed an injury in my shoulder working with a fitness coach, which ended up being what's called "frozen shoulder", but also means Bursitis. The doctor said I would have to have physical therapy twice a week, but will NOT fully heal for about A YEAR! What the heck?? It was terribly painful and I couldn't even dress myself or fix my hair. My partner had to help me every day and I felt like an invalid.......well, I WAS an Invalid! Anyway, I didn't want to go to therapy (too time consuming), so I thought that if I could go back to "zero" doing these Tibetan exercises, only doing a couple each, every day and work up to 21 again, it might heal me. It was excruciating in the beginning and I really couldn't even use that arm for some of the exercises, but after about 2 months of "sticking with it", I was cured!!! This is a TRUE story! These REALLY work and I'm NOT being paid to say any of this, I just REALLY believe in them because of the results of doing them every day, which ONLY TAKES ABOUT 12 TO 15 MINUTES A DAY. Oh, and by the way, I stopped using that fitness coach and since then have only been doing these exercises, plus walking on a portable treadmill at home for about 20 minutes, while watching my favorite TV programs. I hope my comments here help others realize that it's important to do some sort of exercise for your body (your Temple) and your quality of life. If you can't spend a half-hour or an hour every day working out, you can do these 5 Tibetan Exercises (Rights) in only 12-15 minutes. CHEERS TO A HEALTHIER AND BETTER YOU! Thank You Tim for putting this video out for all of us to see. You and your son are adorable. "" ;D
So precious! It really doesnt take much, just dedication and repetition 😇 So glad your able to move your arm regularly again, and wish you the very best. Such a beautiful story.
Thank you for your story. I was doing these exercises about 15 years ago. I also read the book by Peter Kelder where he describes the 5 tibetan rites. Then somehow I stopped doing them. But now I hope they can help me heal my body again.
@@lucijabrezovar4339 I find I'm in the same boat. I discovered these exercises about 10 years ago. Did them every day without fail, then somehow, just stopped... @@Timvandervliet Hello! Really enjoyed your video - Thank you very much. Small question: Is there a time in the day that is better for these exercises? How about meals - how long before or after exercising? Thank you!
Lovely practice. I begin my mornings this way. Your interaction with your darling child is the topping on the zen "cake" . As a Mom and teacher, I love seeing children move about and for adults to let them!!

I wish more people could allow their kids in their videos. We think we need to be perfect and follow social standards when is better to just be a normal human. I think people appreciate seeing a normal human having a normal human day with his child as part of their life because children and pets are part of our normal human life. I hope you are an inspiration to others to follow your lead.
Thanks for a great demonstration and offering tips to handlethe difficult and safety aspects of how to execute. I've been workin on these for several weeks now with a couple of Yoga extras like seated forward fold and occasional Trikonasa and straddle stretch. I want to limit myself to just a handful of moves after getting up from sleep to enhance my flexibilty in my back, legs and spinal regions. A lot of resistance trainnig last summer has made me a little stiff so this year I'll focus on Yoga for a while. Better for my advancing age too.
I've struggled with a LOT of back pain since I had an injury at 19, and the worst thing for me has always been when I've had to sit for a long time. Hi Tim I just found your channel and I wanted to thank you brother. I've been a long time traveller on this healing journey home to the heart of love and I had to stop the rites many years ago due to a serious injury and never went back and seeing those two tweeks you show on rite 2 and 4 have made me so happy. Tomorrow after sleeping I start again to regain my full power potential. Tell me you must know about rite number 6, yes? I'm sure you do, I never use to practise it, but now I'm much older and look forwards very much to experiencing my rejuvenation process. May peace, love and happiness always light your path. :) Thank you!

Beautiful…. Thank you for this video post…. Watching and learning along with you and your son was peaceful and calming. I hope my comment finds you both well ❤️
Thanks for the tip on second step. I have an arch lower back which makes it painful most times when I exercise leg raises, so the idea of making a triangle with my hands and placing below my back and placing my chin on my chest is a much more comfortable position.
If you like to get rid of lower back problems try this exercise: the arm twist. Very lightly, every morning, two minutes before you do anything else. Please watch it and take it easier when in doubt or when you feel a pain. Let me know how you are doing please. ua-cam.com/video/Xmm3uJ9HCbk/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for this video I have been wanting to do these daily for years but never mastered it. You have simple and easy and safe instructions now I will be doing every day. Thank you and blessings 🙏 🙌 💛
This video is gold! Your son is absolutely hilarious! I really like the modifications. I've known about the 5 Tibetans for a long time, but just revisiting now. Thank you for this!
Hey Tim! It’s great to have found this video. Took a Wim Hof course with you back in December 2018 and as my teacher then, who provided that class with such insight and watching this video now it’s great to see you continue to provide great insight. Wholeness brother🙏🏽
Good tips, and a few inaccuracies: #1 - this was probably meant to explain what the "right" or "clockwise" is, but you should not look at your right hand all the time - this would aggravate the dizziness. Instead, do what figure skaters do when they spin - try focusing momentarily on one distant object at every turn, and then look onto something without much details, like a floor. This is a proven tip, try it! # 2 - Raising legs - you should lower them all the way to the ground. #4 - Tabletop - you forgot to mention one detail, though people who watched other videos already know it. Hold your breath for a couple of seconds in the top position.
@@Timvandervliet - There is an old book by P. Kelder - probably the first printed source of 5 Rites. And videos by very many other people. You may check videos recorded in Tibet, how monks are doing it. Position of hands in #2 varies depending on the performer, monks are doing it a difficult way, but the rest is consistent throughout most sources - legs go all the way down in #2, hold a few seconds at the top in #4. Your tips make it easier, I am using them - except for looking at the right hand when spinning, and I am not sure you meant to look at that hand all the time, maybe only to set the direction. OTH, focusing the eyes on a distant object - suggested by the book and other videos - worked. Cheers!
Nice one Tim! I like the performance from your Son and I was waiting for the BANG BANG of a Drum when he had the Drum beater. !I've been doing the 5rits for about 20 years and when included with a plank variation and topped off with a good head-stand, it makes for the best & most convenient exercise I have ever experienced.. thanks for great vid.. peace :-)
I used to do all 21 repetitions for each Tibetan, few years ago. But then I just stopped, I don't know why - because they're really great. I'm doing only 5 repetitions of each Tibetan in morning, now, it's my way to warm up and prepare body for another workouts in day. Thank you very much for your great videos and advices. ♥️
That is so good that you keep on doing 5! I have had that too. This is where we grow dont you think so? When we do feel like doing it we do a little anyway. Keep it up Maja.
You're a very sweet dad, it's delightful to see! 😊 Thanks for the alternate forms you suggest. In the 2nd rite it makes sense to keep the chin held to the chest to reduce neck tension because the other movements involve quite a lot of neck action. I find I have to be very mindful when tilting my head backwards in the 3rd rite - it's easy to overdo it which can pull my entire body alignment off and cause unnecessary strain. I think you may be overextending your neck there... take a look at your hip and back alignment in profile and see what you think. I hope that may help your practice as you've helped mine. Namaste 🙏🏻
Perfect blend of life force, energy and stillness, the two of you! So yeah, this helped and made me laugh a few times, too, especially toward the end! Dankjewel!! ~Charlotte
Thank you! I tend to have lower back discomfort on and off. I am up to 15 on all except the last rite, so I do it in two parts, the first as usual and the second I bend my knees on the way up..

Hey Tim! It’s great to have found this video. Took a Wim Hof course with you back in December 2018 and as my teacher then, who provided that class with such insight and watching this video now it’s great to see you continue to provide great insight. Wholeness brother🙏🏽
Thanks mo 🙏🏻
Beautiful lesson. Thankyou.
Good tips, and a few inaccuracies:
#1 - this was probably meant to explain what the "right" or "clockwise" is, but you should not look at your right hand all the time - this would aggravate the dizziness.
Where did you get this info from?
!I've been doing the 5rits for about 20 years and when included with a plank variation and topped off with a good head-stand, it makes for the best & most convenient exercise I have ever experienced.. thanks for great vid.. peace :-)
I want to incorporate the head stand in my morning too! Thanks for inspiration.
@@Timvandervliet 😊🌹
Excellent lesson. Short and to the point. Love the alternatives. And with your son, Adorable. Thanks for the vid!!
Namaste 🙏🏻
Thanks i will
Thank you for the table top hack! I have a hard time with that one. My shoulder feel too tight still.
That will change if you practice consistently
Best 5 Rites video I’ve seen ... thank you.
Perfect blend of life force, energy and stillness, the two of you! So yeah, this helped and made me laugh a few times, too, especially toward the end! Dankjewel!! ~Charlotte
Charming & educational.
Well done Tim.
Great video, thank you!
My pleasure!😇
Best part of this video is the little boy!!♥️
Hehe my USP!
Thank you!
I tend to have lower back discomfort on and off. I am up to 15 on all except the last rite, so I do it in two parts, the first as usual and the second I bend my knees on the way up..
Arm twist. If you like to know more about what I learned and how breathing can make you stronger, healthier and stress free, please check out my new online course. It is amazing, everything I know. Very good price at this moment too. This lis level one of becoming a breathing instructor. www.timvandervliet.com/control-your-breath-control-your-life/
