Do you not think that fire is also an important allegorical symbol in the novel? Personally I think that, given the context, it represents the nuclear weapons in the cold war. I think that the way fire is ultimately Ralph's (the symbol of democracy) saviour has links to how nuclear weapons could help save democracy and the western world. I also think that the power that fire represents and how, within the frenzy of building on it so much, they end up losing control and killing the youngest boy may also represent the fears some people have of weapons of mass destruction. I also think that there is a connection as the fire, when used maliciously, destroys their world (microcosm) which was also a fear of people at the time. The last point I'd like to make is that it is the glasses, the symbol of knowledge, that starts the fire and this may be reference to the knowledge and intelligence required to create nuclear bombs.
+PGcharlie FanBoi if you really look into it, fire is a HUGE symbol in LOF and is incredibly complex... I actually think it is the biggest symbol in the book
Wow I think that was very very useful for my gse revision thank you!! Just a small suggestion maybe to Include quotations next time?
