In AFRAID, Curtis (John Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. She learns the family's behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure nothing - and no one - gets in her family’s way.

I honestly like trailers like that because you actually kind of know what the climax will be inside of the inside out 2 trailer where they didn’t even tell us what will happen with Riley and the new characters besides them just “moving in” this trailer has moments in the beginning and the middle. Which is a perfect advertisement. At least to me.
But they really didn’t show the entire movie at all. One reason is by: if they did, how did they defeat her/how did it end?

@@alispalillero3194 we said that it could be, not that it is. Considering that this is made by the same company that made M3GAN and that at the end of this trailer the AI says, “do you want to see what I look like?” It could also be a prequel, but one after the first movie, but before the second.
Maybe it takes place in the same universe as M3GAN.
Glad a lot of classic Disney fans recognize this as a darker, more sinister version of… “Smart House” which had Katey Segal and Ryan Merriman.

I love these 2 minute movies.
So they sort of ruined the entire plot with the trailer. Revealing that its not just an AI that's got it programming messed up and is instead some sort of monster/alien thing is a plot reveal that should have been left for the movie.

Universal has a first-look deal for all their completed movies, and only turns them down when a bad film.

Speak No Evil comes out in September and it looks utterly horrible and that’s distributed by Universal. I think Blumhouse is just not having a good year this year. Hopefully 2025 will show their true potential

Sci-fi movies becoming real life 😢
This is basically Disney Channel’s Smart House but if it was for adults, both movies have a similar premise with an AI house that tries to take control of the family’s lives, the only difference is that Smart House is Rated PG cause Disney Channel and this deals with more mature and adult themes but their basically almost the same
It's good to see that many aficionados of vintage Disney realize this is a darker, more ominous take on the movie "Smart House," starring Katey Segal and Ryan Merriman.
So I guess someone saw that Simpsons Treehouse of Horror with Pierce Brosnan and wrote a live action version of it?
That episode segment of Treehouse of Horror was in itself a parody of a horror movie from the 70s called Demon Seed which is pretty similar to this new movie
I feel like this is a very suspenseful twist on M3GAN and The Ring but with a very talented filming crew and an immaculate cast by Writer Director Chris Weitz

They already did with "Her" and the romantic movie arc. AI can be dangerous, in the same way it can truly help.
I think we need more positive portrayals of A.I. since there's too much fear mongering these days from luddites.

afraid itself was originally titled as "they listen" and released by screen gems on august 25, 2023, but due to being affected by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA Strike, it was released by Columbia pictures instead of screen gems on august 30, 2024 titled as "afraid".
