Sony CCD-TRV87 Hi8 Handycam Loses It’s Mind

I just picked this CCD-TRV87 up today from my local camera store, and it doesn’t seem to be too impressed to have a new owner!
This camcorder was very dusty when I got it and I believe some of that dust made it into the power/mode switch and that’s what’s making it freak out. It startled me at first because I heard a bunch of dinging and wasn’t sure what it was, looked over next to me and sure enough it was the handycam!

You’ve unlocked the it’s 2022 and I’m still working Easter egg tune 😂 But yes probably just a dirty switch that can be fixed with switch cleaner.

Mine has done the same thing from time to time and it’s always been remedied by rapidly cycling the main power switch and the lockout switch located next to the red record button. For the few times that hasn’t worked, a whack or two always seems to have sorted things out.

I ended up taking the front faceplate off and spraying some deoxit in the micro switches and that seems to have fixed it. I’ve never had a camcorder that would freak out like that, and thought it was too hilarious not to catch it in the act on a video.
