Many thanks for the video... I'm looking for an SSD Hard drive that would fit into my MBP late 2012 Retina, and couldn't manage to find one on the internet. Do you know where I could get one. Thank you
@@thetnoob24 You do not need to remove the battery but you needed to disconnect it. There is a connection going to battery on the board under that black sticker (It is written caution bla bla ..something). However If you made it w/o problem that's pure luck.
@@ngunas no I do disconnect the battery I'm not a idiot. Lol. I'm just stating that some models don't have removable batteries. The Mac I have doesn't have a removable battery but you can still disconnect it.
Hi, thanks. Glad you liked it. I am not sure of any other makes. I used an original apple 512 drive I got from eBay. I bought it for 120. The seller had a lot of them. Then I sold my 256 drive on eBay afterwards for 85. So the upgrade only cost me 35 after selling that!
Hi, thanks sharing. I'm considering buying from OWC, did you get yours from them? And could you perform a black magic speed test on the new drive to have an idea of how fast it is. Thanks!
If you have a USB to SSD Cloning cable, like the one from a Corsair Cloning Kit, can you clone the current SSD to the new one using the cable and then just install the new SSD in the MacBook Pro? I have done this with a Windows SSD before but not clear if this will also work for the mac? Then I only need to clone the drive a single time.
Yeah it should do. You will probably have to afterwards go into disk utility ( as I guess the clone would copy the partition of the smaller drive) then here add the additional space. :)

Is there a way to extend this SSD connection from the terminal inside the unibody, with a cable to the outside, so I can swap boot drives effortlessly by keeping the drive outside the machine?
Um. I wouldn't recommend doing that. I can only see alot of problems. There are extension cables available which you could try and hang out the side of the case. But why not get an external usb3.0 SSD and boot from that? Just hold alt on boot and select that drive. Much neater solution :)
The RAM in this model is soldered to the logic board so is very difficult to upgrade, not impossible, but i think certainly more trouble than its worth!!
To upgrade RAM on this model, you either need access to some very good soldering equipment, or you upgrade the entire logic board, which is probably easier, but still not easy I expect.
Hi there Bruce, yeah, you have a point there. You can get static generation from a brush. I normally dip the brush beforehand in an alcohol solution then wipe it with a cloth. This way the brush is slightly damp and static generation not really a problem. But your quite right to do it properly I should have used a compressed air can :)
Please link the where did you buy the SSD thank you
So which one is still there, your gf or the MB?
Isn't the HD soldered in the MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)? Mine has a regular drive, not an SSD
what do i do with a new ssd for this if my current ssd isn't bootable?
this helps me a lot,and one more, could you tell where is the ram?
Great video and very thorough in regards to the 3 different screws and their specific placement. SuperDuper works great!
Thanks kokotiong. Thanks for watching :)
I have same model with 256gb ssd , can i upgrade to 1 tb ssd?

The beast HD ok then, I just couldn’t see that step in the video. This is why I mentioned it. However thanks for clarifying
what type ssd cause it isnt M2
what kind of ssd does it use?
The A1398 mid-2012 rMBP uses SATA M.2 AHCI SSD.
Can I upgrade the mid 2012 MacBook Pro to the Samsung 970 evo plus
Nice and easy spot on. Works 100% Thank You .
Do you know if this model of Macbook pro benefits from the m.2 drive being an NVMe drive or does it not matter?
If using time machine to back up your drive do you still need to use superduper to boot?
What size screwdriver is that you are using ?
Hi! Great video! Aside from the OWC/Transcend JetDrive SSD, what other brands can I use instead? Thanks!
