- Thirty years ago, Eduardo F. Costantini stopped bidding on Leonora Carrington’s ‘Les Distractions de Dagobert’ when the price began to climb. He regretted it ever since.
In a standout, record-breaking moment during the Modern Evening Auction at Sotheby's, Costantini finally won the Surrealist masterpiece for a staggering $28.5 million following a 10-minute bidding battle that smashed the artist’s previous auction record.
The work will be exhibited at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, which Costantini founded in 2001. A fan of the work for all these years, he remarked that Carrington’s whimsical depiction of King Dagobert I is “one of the most admired works in the history of surrealism and an unparalleled masterpiece of Latin American art.”

From 300,000. to 24,000,000!! Wow what a love story. I’m happy to know that it’s going to a museum instead of a living room. Congratulations sir!
He was connected to this beautiful surrealistic work of art, now he gets to to finally own it. That in itself makes creating and collecting art a beautiful experience.
Love seeing people who truly love art
Inspiring story. Incredibly happy for Mr. Costantini and Argentina’s art community. Enjoy!

Thank you for putting this video together. I had watched the bidding on UA-cam. Bidding was very exciting. The painting is so gorgeous, how can one put a price on it? This video also gives one a chance to take a closer look and enjoy the fine details of Carrington's work. Congratulations, Mr. Constantini. Enjoy this wonderful painting for a long time and in good health. I hope you will also often share it with others.🖌🖼👏🤗
His wife will be enjoying it for a much longer time. She is only 33 years old.

Great story - Congratulations!
I saw this video before watching the auction. Beautiful moment and meant so much more when the buyer's moment came during the auction sale..
Que bueno. La veremos de cerca nosotros también.
Anyone who has ever bid at an auction knows how this man felt over the last 30 years. You you have a piece that you love in an auction, you bid a little bit over your limit, and then you let it go. You then spend months or even years regretting that decision, trying to find alternative options, and sulking. I am so happy that this piece was able to get back to this gentleman so many years later. Such an amazing story.
Una bella obra para ver en la bella Buenos Aires !
Cheers Edu

¡FELICITACIONES ,SEÑOR CONSTANTINI!.
I really want to sell a painting of mine...please
Destiny fulfilled
И какой у таких долг? Мне карты
Yea at 30 times the price. Lul
Looks like it was drawn by a teenager with anger issues using crayon or colored pencil.
How about help some starving Porteños with that money? You are going to Hell head first.
24 million?
I'm sorry but there is absolutely zero sense in this.
It's a wonderful piece of art. I love art as well. But paying millions of dollars for art, I don't care how famous the artist or individual art piece is, seems absurd if not downright obscene, especially given the good that could be done socially or environmentally with all that money.
Museo mediocre que debe llevarse las obras de Leonora, Remedios y Frida
THIS IS A TRUE COLLECTOR !! MONEY IS NOTHING, WHEN YOUR DESIRE IS THAT STRONG, YOU CAN SPEND EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO LIVE WITH YOUR BELOVED ARTWORK
