At the time of posting, this game's review score on Steam is Overwhelmingly Positive, with 98% positive reviews out of around 5900-For a game that had absolutely zero marketing until a few hours before its release. Hi-Fi RUSH is a masterpiece. Easily game of the year material. If you're a fan of either of the gameplay genres it mashes up, play it. And even if you aren't, you should seriously consider giving it a try anyway. It might just be good enough to turn you.
@@ribbitpng chill kid
@@ribbitpng do you know when you reply with this, you're making yourself look like a complete dumbass who's saying you can't comprehend that basic text rather than being looking 'cool' to others, such a lame and cringe-ass reply
@@ribbitpng go play Fortnite
You've a comically loose bar for Masterpiece. I want my Gamepass bandwidth back.
The user interface is easily one of the best I've seen in any video games.
The fact that the world itself is your tell as to where the beat is and if you're doing it correctly.
And it's so brilliantly displayed to you from the very first moment you're able to move your character.
Devil May Chai really grows on you as the game goes on.
Underrated pun
AAA production
AA price
Easy to play, satisfying to master
It's been 20 years since Jet Set Radio Future released. Maybe Sega could give Sonic's perpetual 30 year anniversary a break and release JSRF on steam?
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is coming out this year, that might be up your alley
They allegedly denied a sequel pitch. As far as they're concerned, Jet Set Radio is dead.
@@robertbernard7844 Yeah. I remember that story. They want to keep the IP, but do nothing with it. Better for it to make no money than to make someone else money.
@@cryssnail it's been on my steam wish list since it was added. I love how the expected release date just said: Future
I swear I recently saw a headline saying Sega was looking into working on JSR again.
Edit: looked into it and it seems like they want to use the IP for a live service game similar to fortnite. Real monkey's paw moment.
Hopefully Yahtz reviews it too, simply to hear his quips over this kind of game.
One of the rare games that easily deserves a solid 10/10. Shadowdrop done right. It got me into a genre that i never thought I would get into.
No Straight Roads walked, so this game could run.
And I'm Looking forward to running with it
Freakin' love this game! Such a nice surprise, and so polished and visually striking. It took me a while to get into it at first though, as the tutorials are very hand holdy and disruptive, and it throws so many mechanics and moves at you, then loads of upgrades, then upgrades for upgrades - it reminded me of how overly complicated Devil May Cry 5 felt to me. It almost feels like a sequel to a simpler game, where they introduce more moves, upgrades, combos, systems etc. Despite me wishing it was a bit simpler and streamlined (like Jet Set Radio or Mirror's Edge), i'm having a blast with it, and the characters, visuals and combat are so good!
Reminds me very much of No Straight Roads. It’s almost like the 2 games weaknesses and strengths mirror each other. I prefer the writing, art style and especially the music in NSR but Hifi really nails it down with its more Polished gameplay.
Wonderful games all the same and always looking forward to more like em. Seems to be quite the budding trend.
I was going to make a comment about how this looks like what No Straight Roads was going for in its gameplay. And thankfully unlike what happened with No Straight Roads, it sounds like this game succeeded.
That's a win-win for me, I love the art style HFR has just as much as NSR.
...wow, that's 3 games i know who's initials all consist of 3 letters ending in R, that have striking art styles, and are related to music with underlying themes of 2000's punk culture.
it would be 4 games, if they made Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's title match the trend, but ya can't win em all I suppose.
Game of the year contender already this year sheesh!!!!
Y'know I was really expecting Yahtzee to win the fight for this game as it seems to answer a lot of his gripes from prior ZPs. Slipped out with it while he was squinting at spreadsheets did ya?
I imagine he's saving it for a ZP episode surely?
@@alexlyster3459 games reviewed by Review in 3 Minutes usually don't get reviewed by ZP.
@@noahandrulis9077 there have been a couple of game which got double treatment! Fingers crossed :)
@@noahandrulis9077 oh interesting, I didn't know that.
Brings me back to the good ol' early 2000's cel-shaded games of yore. Excellent!
This game is fantastic.
I have not felt such a drive to hit s rank in years not since Bayonetta 2.
Only thing I really wish is that I could quickly replay the chapter I just finished however I have a sneaking suspicion there will be a way to do that once I finish the story
So it's a 2000s Saturday morning cartoon that's like BPM but with Hack and Slash. Nice🤘
Great review! Hi-Fi Rush is exactly that, a game greater than the sum of its parts. It is a modern classic.👏👏👏
I wonder if Yahtzee is gonna review this game.
if he does, and there's no musical bit, i'm going to be disappointed
Yo this game game out of nowhere and is immediately fun, engaging, and entertaining. Gaming at its finest, just drop a release without hyping it up, and GASP, if the game's GOOD, it'll spread on its own in no time. Doing ACTUAL QA to release a STABLE game instead of letting the gamers Beta test it for you and end up patching it into oblivion? What a concept!
My game of the year for now, so much soul in adding animations, being playful with game mechanics or standard rules (the explosion animation during an early segment).
Only gripe is the lack of 'values your time' mobility options. Dashing should be endless if not in combat
Really felt like Viewtiful Joe with heavy rhythm elements
The way the environment moves reminds me of Just Shapes & Beats. Games need to do that more.
This is like devil may cry meets crypt of the necrodancer
I tried this one : I didn't like it. But I didn't like devil may cry too, so...
The technical aspect is almost perfect ! Impressive !!
And the game is stable which is a big quality in a time where studios NEVER finished their games day one !!!
Indies almost always finish their games day one
Same. You just technically walk and jump over obstacles with less combat. I felt it like a chore.
1:12 Oh yeah, that's a JoJo reference. :D
Looks fucking amazing! Can't wait to play it. Thanks for the review
I've only played three perfect narrative-based games in my nearly 40-year gaming life: Portal, Outer Wilds, and Undertale. I'm only halfway through HiFi Rush, but so far, I can honestly say it might be the fourth, which could mean my Holy Trinity will become a Holy Quaternity and I'll be having many arguments as to whether "quaternity" is actually a proper word
And 13
Outer wilds is my favourite game ever. Hi fi rush is a great game, but its narrative? I think its passable at best
@@cosasacelebrar3974 I see we have some more well cultured people here 😉 Outer Wilds was truly mind-blowing.
i was pretty into bug fables, 7th dragon III code vfd, and some moments in the world ends with you/it's a wonderful world were interesting. i don't remember much of wondersong other than i enjoyed it.
Those are a solid three; I wouldn't have considered HiFi a contender but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I was just shocked at how instantly fun this game was. I rarely end up finishing games (that's okay, I just have serious ADHD) and I bashed right on through. The worst part of the game - the platforming - was plenty fun and slightly challenging. It's not just hyped; it was a completely engaging colorful blast of fun.
Bruh the music in this games is SO GOOD wtf, this dude has weird taste in music
I love this game. My only issue is that I can only play it on cloud streaming, which is obviously not the best way to do it! 😂
Facts lol i could’ve been got a next gen console but i never seen the point until now
I started the first hour or so on streaming as was surprised how well it worked, but yeah, I can imagine as the game gets harder it might be less than optimal
How badly does the latency affect your ability to stay on beat?
@Kasul the Casual I assumed someone would stream it if it wasn't available for last gen, and they're using last gen hardware. IDK, as I'm on PC.
Guys, how did you miss in your reviews last year's best JRPG Chained Echoes?
Asking the real questions.
0:45 is that the fucking Torture Dance?!
Xbox team really solid this year 🔥
definitely my cup of tea
Yahtzee should review this, this might just be goty
Is this what would happen if PlatinumGames were to make No Striaght Roads? I'll try it! Now I just wish Mike Patton had gotten in on it. X)
I spent alot of time editing a video on Hi-Fi rush, feel free to check out my first time playing it!!! Any support or feedback is welcome :))
Bethesda completely dropped the ball on marketing for this game. It's almost as if they don't want to support a game that criticizes toxic corporate culture.
If any of you are still debating over playing this game, consider this:
(Spoiler!)
You fight a giant mecha werewolf in a Scrooge McDuck-style money pit, while a Mozart dubstep remix plays in the background.
If that’s not enough for you…then I don’t know how to help you.
Also also
(spoiler)
Fighting a trope anime corporate boss as a robot cat to the tune of Nine Inch Nails.
That fight really smacked down my ranking though...
I needed a continue for pretty much every single stage of the fight.
Awesome game by the way...10/10
Any plans for a Playstation release? Seems like a super fun game.
Devil May Jive
Sounds like if the player is off beat they are penalized with lower scores, less upgrade currency, and weaker shorter reaching attacks. 👅
Good review. UI spoilers tho.
Ah yes. I'd encourage viewers sensitive to that to not look at the upper right corner of the screen for too long here
@treechenho might spoil a sick-a twist
@@IceTypeFennekin yes which is why I said to *not* look there. Though I'm pretty sure that in the video at one point (won't say where) it's just blatantly...there... onscreen, chillin'
@@treechenho ...I was making a not-so-subtle pun...dunno if you caught it
@@IceTypeFennekin ah I see. I kinda do see it now
Xbox wins again
…again?
Console wars don't matter, go do something better with your life than worship a box that plays video games.
Don’t fall for obvious bait guys, yeesh 😂
I am sad because I got to the first 2D platform section and I couldn’t get passed it, I hate platformers.
please stop giving kc this type of thing to read off it just seems so robotic kc is funny I think we know that from Adventure is Nigh he just seem so plastic
I wish this game came out for the Switch because I'm not buying another console just for one game. That's poor consumerism.
@Thiffguy get gamepass and stream it on a PC! Any PC.
Meh. It's not different than say Breath of the Wild not releasing on other consoles. It sucks, but at this point it's standard practice.
Time to upgrade to the Steam Deck, Jack.
You have a computer?
Gave it shot.
Never been so disappointed in "JSRF"-like title.
Between the world inducing nausea from constant pulsing and the rhythm of the music constantly slipping out of sync like every rhythm game ever, this game ain't for me.
What??
Sounds like you got no rhythm my dude. Lol
Whats the point of such a great game if its not on Playstation though.
Guess you’ll have to enjoy the award-winning game Forspoken instead!
The point is you need a Xbox, boy !!
This is unironically the most overrated game I've ever played.
Incredible concept + amazing art style and cutscenes for sure, but the gameplay itself is boring and repetitive.
This style of game clearly draws inspiration from the Sly Cooper, Jak 2, Ratchet and Clank era of games, but they forgot the most important part.
Make the game actually fun to play for more than 15 minutes.
Hey I think you just found out you suck at character action games!
@@kraftyNiNja Every time someone doesn't like your favorite game it isn't because they're "bad at it" and considering Elden Ring + Sekiro are some of my favorite games of all time, this rhythm game catered towards children was never challenging.
I never at any point complained about the game being difficult.
@@kraftyNiNja I even complemented the art style and original premise of the game, but rather that the combat and traversal platforming segments in general felt repetitive and shallow.
If someone finds the combat to be boring and repetitive, it's usually because they never found themselves being challenged by the game, not the other way around.
