Sadly, GNOME classic session is still no replacecment for GNOME 2/Mate. The things that are still missing are: 1. (Gnome) Applications still don't have their own menu attached to their window. 2. There is no search box in classic session in the start menu to search for applications and start them 3. Nautilus doesn't allow to create files inside of a folder view. 4. Files cannot be marked with emblems like it was possible in Gnome 2 and still is in Mate. 5. You can't add any folders to the places view. That's only possible in KDE. So to sum it up. If you want have Gnome 2 feeling, Mate is still the best choice. If you want have a more modern Desktop Environment without missing anything, then select KDE. That's what i do. And if you don't want to use Mate or KDE, then use Cinnamon. Cinnamon is still better then Gnome Classic Session. And if i remember correctly, Cinnamon does at least support file emblems.
@@Tetex gnome 3 wasn't the proiblem in itself; I personally enjoy the workflow of 3/4, but the problem is that it was the successor to gnome 2. They had radically different ui philosophies. Gnome 3 should have been a seperate gtk spinoff project.

12 years later, most people still don't understand the marvelous GNOME 3 philosophy.
Yeah, that just shows how shitty it is. If you make a product people do not understand the problem is not the people it is your shitty product.
"marvelous"
