Your video sums up the major very well! As someone who came from a community college, I had an easier time to focus on my classes and finish some minors since I had already finished all the GE's. If you are coming into the major straight out of highschool, I highly recommend taking GE classes over summer/winter so you have a lighter load in the fall and spring semesters. Studio classes are extremely taxing and I've seen a lot of my classmates struggle trying to balance everything. I hope this video reaches out to the students considering to join or transfer to the major! I have had many students question their choices in the major by the time they're well in their 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th year and by that time it would be difficult to change to something else. Thank you for this!

After a 40+ years stint with a federal agency as a licensed landscape Architect I can truthfully state that all of the long nights and weekends completing projects at school was worth every minute. It’s not an easy curriculum and takes lots of creative thinking and some drawing skills although most everything is computer graphics now (wasn’t in 1970), but it allows the student to imagine a new world and design it and hopefully build parts of it.

i used to think this problem between university and work is something that only exists in my country (iran). now you mentioned it and the question is: why can't they just teach us what we need to learn???😐

Thank you for this. Idk anymore. Landscape isn't my dream. But the classes were fun and it seems like an important career. In real life I want to be a writer but this looks stable. Or it could be. Idk anymore.

Thay part wher it explains about “progress” is the priority before getting into this field. Some students can keep up with it and some may just ‘fck it, imma turn it in like this…’…

It looks like you have a lot questions about work after graduating from the landscape program. Like I said in the video, there are some people who decided not to take a "landscape" job or jobs that have nothing to do with the major. But the knowledge gained through the major can apply to any job that includes people and the environment. The knowledge I'm referring to is not just programs, mainly because school barely teaches you programs, but the application of the ideology behind design and how we can physically sculpt the world to make it a better place. If you're very focused on just learning the programs then this might not be the major for you. And for the programs I still use, none of them. Maybe some adobe programs in free time but I don't use them for work.

I think if you like doing graphic design then you'll probably like doing landscape architecture stuff. But if you're just feeling drained I recommend a vacation to somewhere new or set aside some time on what makes you happy.

Sorry i havent been around to do comments. This might be kinda late but the major will provide information through a career advisor and give you a road map of which classes to take. I believe this is how most majors do it.

I'm pretty sure any major college provides the program but I can not recommend other colleges since I don't know how their program works. I suggest looking into the colleges you would like to go to then see if their landscape program is up to your standard.

Its not technically landscape but it uses some of the knowledge I've gained through the major. Some of my friends from the major are not doing landscape because they grew tired of it like I did or just found more favorable work somewhere else. And the people I know who do work for landscape companies complain about low pay and a demanding environment.

@@velojames15 During school i felt very burnt out on the work i did because it was a constant grind on diagrams that needed countless renditions along side with my other classes. The studio culture normalizing loosing sleep just to meet deadlines. The thought in the back of my mind knowing how company cultures over work and under pay employees. Recently I applied and got an interview at a landscaping design company in long beach but they offered me minimum wage for a designer position so you could say I’m a little tired of it. Don’t get me wrong its a very good field of study and there’s lots of people who make good careers of this profession but I prefer something else.
