- Geologist Ian Plimer has pointed out that electric vehicles have an “awful track record” of performance and resale.
Mr Plimer’s remarks come after Energy Minister Chris Bowen took to X to boast about a surge in electric vehicle novated leases.
“Mr Bowen should look at what’s happening in the UK and in Europe,” Mr Plimer told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“People are moving away from EVs and back to the time-proven internal combustion engines.”
Just remove Bowen..permanently.

Ev sales are tapped out worldwide. Look at how much Hertz lost last year on their EV fleet disaster, they lost a billion dollars.

Just to prove the point first quarter numbers were released yesterday and EV sales were up worldwide by 19% to a total of 64% of all sales.
Yes car sales are down year over year but it is all sales, not just EV's they are in fact the fastest growing sector

@@keegan773 You know if you looked past the media yelling on fire risk you would find that in fact of the three classes of vehicle, ICE, Hybrid and EV the greatest fire risk is Hybrid followed by ICE with EV a very distant third. Battery fires are very rare and considering that lithium iron batteries are the most common energy storage devise on earth how many people do you know who have ever been burnt by one. You have one on your desk and probably one in your pocket.

I work in the richest suburb of my city, these Teslas are concentrated in the rich suburbs, a person earning over $50 000 shouldn't be eligible for the grants and rebates, the poorest suburbs have no uptake at all of electric vehicles.

@@davidbwn EV’s are a solution to some people’s problems. They aren’t the only possible solution.
They have significant advantages in some applications (like city commuting and short range vehicles anywhere else).
They don’t cut it where you are more than 200km from a recharge point (400km is the typical range on a single charge on current entry level vehicles).
Hydrogen is an option for longer range vehicles and aircraft (although battery EV aircraft are commercially available now (they are used as trainers and sightseeing aircraft)).
EV’s are just another drive train option.
It is the right wing that are trying to make it political.

How is it more affordable to move to an EV? You have to buy it for starters and they are dearer than ICE vehicles, they depreciate much more so leasing is pointless also. All of a sudden those who are struggling with the cost of living and struggling with paying their bills including electricity can apparently go out and buy a “more affordable “ EV 😂😂😂 are we getting this electricity and these EVs for nothing Labor?

BTW - Tesla’s have an eight year warranty on battery and drive train.

@@allangibson8494The driveaway price in 2019 for the Model 3 was $71K to $95K depending on the spec. So going on your 2nd hand price spread people have lost roughly 50% of their purchase price, or up to $50,000 in 5 years. I'll think I'll give that a miss.
The Tesla warranty is not unlimited kms, and if your battery fails under warranty they fit a 2nd hand one.
Even Rolls Royce have dumped their Ev and are looking into hydrogen vehicles instead.

It is a significant worry in regards to the lithium battery spontaneous combustion problem. I for one belief electric or hydrogen powered cars are the future, but in view of the spat of fires caused no thanks and i would not wish to have one near a dwelling.

A guy I watch in the UK said his Porche EV is worthless after 2 years. He still owes 60,000 pounds yet every month he gets an estimate on resale that is going down 2,000 pounds a month. The resale value is between 22,000-36,000 and sade that no one wants to buy an EV anymore in the UK.

The market will replace ICE cars and technology without throwing tax money at anything. EVs are superior, cheaper to operate, pollute far less,... and so on. Being a Tesla customer, I'll promote them. Buy Tesla, they're just superior.

Regarding the “glut” of EVs in Europe - the UK had an increase in EV demand in Q1 of 64%! Not exactly a situation where they are “not selling”! They’re not “too expensive”, and they certainly don’t depreciate faster than other cars. What has happened is that depreciation is now the same as an ICE car. Seriously, a clear attempt to slow down EV sales, only it’s not working
